Don Murphy, one of the producers on the new Transformers movie, has posted on of his famous Sunday postings again on his board.

This time around he talks in his post about the succes of this board-project, about the comic-con and obviously about the recent news that Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime in the original cartoon series, will be voicing the great Autobot leader in this movie again.

The following has directly been taken from his personal post.

"Wow what a week… I feel like a long James Joycean ramble… goo goo g’joob…Warners announced the Deadman deal in time for ComicCon … which was okay but weird since we had been working on it for a year and the deal wasn’t done with the DC liaison guy…SHOOT ‘EM UP continues going amazingly…

I got to spend the early part of the week with a lifesize, gigantic Megatron which was surreal and so cool you’re all jealous. I mean so cool… started budgeting a new big movie at Warners that we hope we will film next- fingers crossed for Susan and I…

and then the Cullen thing. As you all know when we started this grand experiment two years ago, Cullen and Welker were the ONLY Thing you gave me any consensus on. I’m serious, because I read everything you write, no matter how shitty. And if someone suggested something, half of you would shout it down. And the ONLY thing you overwhelmingly agreed on was that Prime should sound like Prime and Megatron should sound like Megatron. Which makes sense, especially since both actors are alive and well. So I pushed your agenda. As some of you know, that was not an easy one. My own partner advocated celebrity voices. Then I showed him the results of your guys’ input and he immediately joined the bandwagon. Ian Bryce came to the show well in to the process and saw the results and supported immediately. John Rogers needed no prodding god bless his pointed head. One or two Dreamworks executives also supported from relatively early on. The interesting thing is that the director never gave an opinion any way. He had a lot of us telling him that there was no choice, really, the fans had spoken. But he had Skorponok and a lot of people at Dreamworks and Paramount FIGHTING actively not to do it. The forces of Cullen kept the push going. Several weeks he came in and auditioned, which was all anyone could ask the director to do. Then he came back for a meeting. And now, Optimus Prime has his voice back. And there is much rejoicing. I now have people that really don’t like me because of this.

But as we learned in this week’s sudden purge at Disney, it is the movie that counts. I have never cared if I was liked- all that anyone remembers is the film. And 14 years later I am still making movies… before you negativists start asking wotup with Welker, hey we are all working on it. Fact is I was told he was harder to arrange audition time with and his schedule--- hell I don’t know. No one wants Cullen without Welker. I will not say that the director has made the decision because he hasn’t. But you see this particular director is one of the most amazing I’ve ever seen work. One day he was shooting on a big city street- five cameras going at once. He set every shot up. He set the extras, hell he OPERATED one of the cameras. My gut tells me that Michael Bay weighs every decision QUITE STRONGLY. You have to remember that. HE finally okayed Cullen once HE was convinced. And should Welker happen, as I know everyone hopes, it will happen when he can make the decision. Which, quite frankly, is not an urgent decision to make at this moment.

Hang tight….as far as ComiCon goes- I’ve been going since 1988 when it actually was about Comics. I screened Natural Born Killers there a month early in 1994. It has always been something to look forward to for me. But for the first time, I don’t know, it is just out of control… tens of thousands of people lumbering around. Sometime in the late 90s it doubled in size and became movie con. Then three years ago it tripled in size and stayed Movie con. But it is out of control as I say. Saturday Susan and I left at noon- there was no way to walk in. Some poor bastards were cueing around the building in the hot sun just to register. It was NUTS. And what did one learn at the place? That morbid obesity is a huge problem in the United States? That Marvel couldn’t afford a booth for the fifth year in a row? Now I am not saying I am done with ComicCon but SOMEBODY needs to radically rethink it- stat. And I HATE all the Johnny come lately film execs who come up to you and say “Hey Don and Susan did you find anything?” as if buying a comic book on the floor gives you movie rights or some shit. NO we didn’t find anything. We weren’t looking! EVERY comic book thing we want to do we knew about in advance. We met with the creators we wanted to because they expected us. Between our track record with Comic films and our best friend Gaston at Meltdown Comics in LA we know more about what is ou there than you could ever hope to. So wander around looking for something with a thousand other development execs- you’re wasting your time and ruining the Con….

Finally, we are going to add a moderator Monday to this forum. His name is GRIMM and he works for Angryfilms. And he is a super cool cat a real rising star in Hollywood. You know I hate censorship which is why Stan and I almost never censor. But, well, as this goes on I am noticing more and more LIES being posted. Rumors are okay. Bad opinions are fine. LIES about people working on the film, about their private life, etc. that is not okay. So GRIMM will come in here and do some reaping….

Happy Sunday Stooges… I am the Eggman…
Hang Tight Stooges, Hang Tight!

The United States Air Force has published another article on their website, Air Force Link, about the Transformers movie. This new article discusses how actors such as Tyrese Gibson on mannerisms and language. Here is what the article said:

"Airman trains Hollywood actors for 'Transformers' movie

by Airman 1st Class Heather Stanton
49th Fighter Wing Public Affairs

6/12/2006 - HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. (AFPN) -- For authentic military aspects, DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures looked no further than Air Force Airmen for the major motion picture production “Transformers.” Actors trained for their individual military parts with an Air Force senior NCO.

Master Sgt. Ray Bolinger, combat controller with the 22nd Special Tactics Squadron at McChord Air Force Base, Wash., trained Tyrese Gibson, one of the lead actors, on the mannerisms and language of a combat controller.

“I am his combat control technical adviser,” he said. “I taught him the authentic dialogue of calling in an air strike.”

As an Air Force combat controller, Sergeant Bolinger provides air and ground interface, is a certified air traffic controller and calls in air strike attacks when in war.

But Sergeant Bolinger taught more than language and dialogue. He also trained actors how to dress in a military uniform in order to look the part.

From the basic battle dress uniform to adding the bullet-proof vest, Kevlar helmet and weaponry, the actors will look like an authentic special operations team in the movie.

Sergeant Bolinger was able to teach the actors Air Force skills because he is an experienced Airman. He has been a combat controller for 20 years, deployed twice to both Iraq and Afghanistan and is now a terminal attack control instructor.

“I did about two years of training right out of basic,” Sergeant Bolinger said.

Combat controller training starts at Lackland AFB, Texas. From there it is on to Keesler AFB, Miss.; Fort Benning, Ga.; Pope AFB, N.C.; and Fairchild AFB, Wash. The Airmen also parachute train at the Yuma Proving Grounds in Arizona and go to dive school with the Navy in Panama City, Fla.

Sergeant Bolinger graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1983. His father was an F-4 Phantom fighter pilot stationed here from 1977 to 1983.

As for the movie, Sergeant Bolinger is excited to see it. He trained with the crew in California for a week and was at Holloman for a week during filming.

“This movie is a good thing for the Air Force,” Sergeant Bolinger said. “I think it will help with recruiting, especially for special operations. Having someone so famous playing the role could bring people in.” "

United States Air Force has placed an article about the upcoming Transformers movie on their website, Air Force Link. The article discusses the military's role in the film and more. Here is what the article said:

"Movie project transforms Holloman

by Arlan Ponder
49th Fighter Wing Public Affairs

6/5/2006 - HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. (AFPN) -- What do the Air Force’s first stealth fighter, a toy that has been around since the 1980s, and a director who loves big-budget, special effects-driven movies all have in common? The answer is the DreamWorks project, "Transformers," being filmed here.

On May 19, Col. David Moore, 49th Fighter Wing commander, along with representatives from the Department of Defense, Air Force public affairs and Otero County, officially announced pre-production work was being completed with filming to begin within a few days.

“We have been working in collaboration with DreamWorks studios over the last two months preparing to support them in filming a major Hollywood motion picture at Holloman,” Colonel Moore said. “We have been anxious to talk about what we’re doing. We’re happy to finally have the opportunity to discuss the movie publicly.”

Had it not been for several factors, such as the look of the base and surrounding terrain, the tax-credit New Mexico offers movie-makers and the base’s proximity to the White Sands Missile Range, the announcement never would have taken place.

“The production sent location scouts to seven Air Force bases and several Army installations,” said 1st Lt. Christian Hodge, chief of industry relations for the Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs entertainment liaison. “There have been several challenges, but Team Holloman has come through in a big way.”

The professionalism of Airmen at Holloman also came into play, Lieutenant Hodge said, not to mention one special item: the only operational F-117 wing. The proximity of the CV-22 Osprey at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque was also a plus because the film will feature both aircraft.

“The F-117s will be pictured prominently in the movie, both as static background and taxiing aircraft,” said Lieutenant Hodge, who has been a fan of Transformers since he was a child. “The CV-22 Osprey is scheduled to make its feature film debut in this movie, along with the F-22 Raptor.”

Also featured in the film will be the A-10 Thunderbolt II, AC-130 and C-130 Hercules, C-17 Globemaster III, MH-53 Pave Low, HH-60 Pave Hawk, MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle and Air Force One. The filming of the F-22, C-17, Predator and Air Force One will be done at another location.

Although the rumor mill was working overtime since a casting call seeking extras was issued in March, mum has been the official word. Representatives close to the film have been in the area for several months coordinating the efforts to get more than 300 crew members here and several sets built. Until May 19 the specifics of the project had only been rumor.

“We have had the pleasure of working with DreamWorks Productions beginning mid-January as we met (for) discussions concerning the logistical details for the project,” said Kathleen Curtis, Otero County Economic Development Council.

The movie, which is using the working title “Transformers,” has been a long time coming even before Holloman became involved. Originally a Hasbro toy, Transformers products made a place in retail history by selling more than $3 billion in items since the metamorphosing toys hit the market in 1984.

The original film was an animated version released in 1986, but fans worldwide have called for a live-action version. According to Lieutenant Hodge, the Air Force, Army and Department of Defense provided notes and suggestions on draft scripts before the final version was approved.

Numerous actors names have been thrown around in association with this feature film, but it appears Josh Duhamel, Michael Clarke Duncan, Tyrese Gibson, Bernie Mac, John Turturro and Jon Voight will make appearances.

This project is the largest movie since “Black Hawk Down” to receive DOD approval. Each year the Pentagon receives numerous requests to film the armed forces in action, however, selection is based on how accurately the forces will be portrayed. Military image is important, according to Army Lt. Col. Paul Sinor, lead public affairs representative for DOD.

Despite the fact this film will have a “science fiction” flair, the project is a realistic portrayal of actual Air Force and Army servicemembers, Colonel Sinor said. The relationship between the director and DOD also was considered during the approval process.

“We’ve worked with Michael Bay before," Colonel Sinor said. "We like the way he operates. He understands how the military operates. We have a very good relationship."

Mr. Bay is noted for directing several big-budget, special effects-driven movies like “Armageddon,” “The Rock,” “Bad Boys” and DOD-approved, “Pearl Harbor.”

Lieutenant Hodge said Mr. Bay has been on base since May 19.

“Mr. Bay is fully engaged in making this movie. He doesn’t sleep much and is very, very busy,” he said. “He is much like a general in a deployed environment in that he has a lot of people under his command and is under extreme pressure to successfully accomplish his mission.”

Colonel Moore said there are similarities between a major motion picture set and an Air Force facility such as Holloman. He said to establish a movie set requires housing, dining, storage, office space and logistics, all of which servicemembers require when they deploy.

“There were many commonalities that we were unaware of," the colonel said.

"We have discovered that they, like us, go to great lengths to organize and prepare to set up their shots to film, considering the camera angles, considering the light, considering when everything is ready and making sure it’s prepared," Colonel Moore said. "There are enormous similarities between that and a military operation.” "

According to Prime Nova, one of our fellow Seibertronians, "Hasbro has finally secured the rights to the name Bumblebee!

"Minicon Sparkplug will be released under that name in the first or second wave of Minicon Battle Packs to secure the name on store shelves. Hasbro is also looking into releasing the G1 toy somewhere. I'm told there are also designs for TWO new Bumblebee toys as well. One for the Alternators and a second for the tail end of Cybertron.

"I think they're serious about keeping the name this time. :)"

Thanks for the information Prime Nova! Keep the rumors coming!!!

EDIT BY SEIBERTRON:

Thanks to Nevermore, we've found out that there's some additional information regarding whether or not "BUMBLEBEE" is an official name. Apparently this has been part of some long standing debates at the other TF sites.

Some information from the United States Patent and Trademark Office:
http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regser=serial&entry=76634431

A thread has been started at Transfandom.com by Aerosurge regarding this back on July 20th, 2005: http://forums.transfandom.com/invboard/index.php?showtopic=30197 and a thread was started by Nevermore at TFArchive.com back on April 7th, 2005: http://www.tfarchive.com/community/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29877.

The reason this is in the Sludge Report and not in the News section is because it's a rumor - plain and simple. Please keep that in mind when reading this page. When Hasbro or the Government says "no dice" on this name or someone says the name can apply to our favorite yellow Autobot, then it's news. Until then, it's a rumor which has been posted purely for entertainment purposes. Please remember that a rumor is a piece of unverified information to which we make no claim to the validity of this information. Is this information about the "Bumblebee" name fact or fiction? We provide this entertaining rumor so that YOU can decide ...

Since the writers have included Bumblebee in the story for the 2007 Transformers movie from Dreamworks, I don't doubt for a moment that Hasbro and/or Dreamworks are actively trying to secure this name especially if Volkswagen happens to come around and decide that they'd like the Beetle (new or old) featured in the movie. If they want the name "bumblebee" badly enough, Hasbro and Dreamworks might just get it. Just about anything's possible when money is involved.

Keep your fingers crossed ... we might just yet have a BUMBLEBEE once again just around the corner.

As metioned yesterday Transfomers.com has been updated today with a big Announcement concerning the forthcoming Transformers Live Action Movie. The new comes in the form of a Comic Con Q&A and a Movie News Article giving details of the Deamworks film. Both news items announce the Movie will get its US release on July 4th 2007!

NOTE: The tentative release date for the Transformers movie does not coincide with the release date of Spider-Man 3. Spider-Man 3 is set to be released on May 4th, 2007, according to the official Spider-Man 3 website.

TRANSFORMERS WILL BE MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE AT THEATRES NATIONWIDE ON 07-04-07

The live-action “Transformers” movie has been set to open nationwide on 07-04-07, it was jointly announced today by DreamWorks Pictures, Hasbro, Inc.
(NYSE: HAS), and Paramount Pictures.

The feature, based on the globally popular Transformers franchise, will be directed by Michael Bay (upcoming “The Island,” “Armageddon”) from a screenplay being written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (upcoming “The Island”). Steven Spielberg (“War of the Worlds”) is executive producing the film, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura (upcoming “Four Brothers”), Tom DeSanto (“X-Men” and “X2: X-Men United”) and Don Murphy (“The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”) serving as co-executive producers.

In making the announcement, DreamWorks head of distribution Jim Tharp stated, “Under the direction of Michael Bay, and with Steven Spielberg executive producing, we know that ‘Transformers’ is going to be the kind of explosive action movie that is perfect for the height of the summer movie season. By staking our claim on the 4th of July, 2007, we ensure that we not only have the time to make this movie the way it should be made, but also to build excitement and awareness leading up to its release.”

“Fans around the world have wanted a Transformers live-action movie for a long time and we are thrilled to work with DreamWorks and Paramount to bring this legendary saga to life on the big screen,” said Brian Goldner, President of Hasbro’s U.S. Toy segment. “With some of the entertainment industry’s best talent on board for this film, fans will experience Transformers in a way that is incredibly powerful.”

DreamWorks will distribute the film domestically, while Paramount will handle the international release. Hasbro will work with the production team and DreamWorks on all aspects of the film’s creative development, marketing and promotions, and will manage merchandising in conjunction with the release of the film.

This week, DreamWorks is launching the official “Transformers” movie website (www.transformers.com) at Comic-Con International, being held from July 13 – 17 in San Diego, California. “Transformers” will also be making its presence known in a big way, with a huge 18-wheeler truck sporting the instantly recognizable Transformers logo dominating the area around the DreamWorks booth—and much of the convention floor—letting thousands of fans know that “Transformers” is coming to the big screen on 07-04-07.

Introduced in 1984, the Transformers brand took the world by storm with its compelling saga of the Autobots versus the Decepticons. The innovative “Robots in Disguise” resulted in a tremendously successful toy line from Hasbro and Takara, comic book series, television program and an animated feature film. More than 20 years later, a new generation has discovered the excitement of the Transformers brand and its legendary characters, including the two leaders of the opposing sides: Optimus Prime and Megatron. Today, the franchise features a popular toy line, an animated series on the Cartoon Network and a chart-topping comic book series from IDW Publishing.

DreamWorks SKG was formed in October 1994 by its three principal partners—Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen. The studio is actively involved in the production of live-action motion pictures and network and cable television programs, and the distribution of live-action and animated feature films, as well as home video entertainment.

Hasbro (NYSE:HAS) is a worldwide leader in children's and family leisure time entertainment products and services, including the design, manufacture and marketing of games and toys, such as MONOPOLY and G.I. JOE, ranging from traditional to high-tech. Both internationally and in the U.S., its PLAYSKOOL, TONKA, MILTON BRADLEY, PARKER BROTHERS, TIGER, and WIZARDS OF THE COAST brands and products provide the highest quality and most recognizable play experiences in the world.

Paramount Pictures is part of the entertainment operations of Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA and VIAB), one of the world’s largest entertainment and media companies and a leader in the production, promotion, and distribution of entertainment news, sports and music.
