Seibertron's own lodelco has found some great news regarding IDW's Transformers comics over at Comics Continuum.
Comics Continuum have posted the upcoming March 2008 releases from IDW Publishing and there are a few surprises in store!

First up is Spotlight Grimlock:

Written by Simon Furman, art and cover by Marcelo Matere.

The spotlight now falls on Grimlock, everyone's favorite Dinobot! Once set on a course of action, Grimlock always sees it to the bitter end. But has he now gone too far? Branded a renegade and responsible for condemning his fellow Dinobots to a living death, this time there may be no way back!

Followed by an un-announced surprise, a second Spotlight in March featuring... Mirage?

Written by George Strayton, art and cover by Guido Guidi.

Stepping into the spotlight is the infiltrator Mirage, an Autobot who has long questioned his allegiances in the war against Megatron. But when a temporal accident suddenly shunts him into an alternate timeline, he finally gets the chance to experience life as a Decepticon. Will he embrace his newfound power and wipe out the last of the Autobots, or sacrifice everything to save them?

And another new surprise with the announcement of The Transformers: Focus on Decepticons.

Written by Shane McCarthy and Neil Kleid, art by Nick Roche and more, cover by Don Figueroa.

Starscream. Thundercracker. Skywarp. Shockwave. And, of course, their terrifying leaderŠ the Decepticons represent the greatest threat in the history of Earth -- and now they're about to make their move. What are their plans? What will it mean for fate of mankind? And where are the Autobots, sworn defenders against Megatron's menace? IDW Publishing is set to unveil a globe-shattering Transformers event that will explode across comics pages this spring, and this specially-priced sneak peek features preview art, behind-the-scenes interviews, design sketches, information on the Decepticons of the upcoming Movie Sequel series and more!

Groundsplitter from ntfa.net has posted some bad news from the NTFA Minicon held on the 3rd and 4th of November:

We regret that we will have to back out on the exclusive showing of the first episode of Transformers: Animated at the Arlöv Mini-Con this weekend. Both we and Hasbro Nordic thought we had permission to show the full episode, but it seems there was either some miscommunication or just a case of conflicting opinions at Hasbro USA. First one party told us yes, but later another party said no.

We want to emphasize that Hasbro Nordic's manager wanted to make the exclusive showing possible, and thanks to his efforts we can still show a partial preview of the episode, just not the full episode. So you will still get a taste of Transformers: Animated at Mini-Con!

Following this bad news, Groundsplitter posted a short review of what was shown at the NFTA Minicon:

It was a very interesting preview though, and I can tell you that even though I were very sceptical when I saw the first posters for the series a while ago, I think the cartoon may turn out to be quite entertaining. What struck me the most is that it seems all the characters will be portrayed with distinct personalities - a very welcome change compared to the three latest series, were most of the characters were blank slates.
There were also quite a few nods to the old fans - I haven't seen the clips on YouTube so I don't know what has been shown before, but the show actually starts with Optimus Prime looking at some archive clips from the war that ended a few hundred years ago - clips that are taken straight from the original G1 cartoon! And Ratchet is said to have taken part of that war, which poses the question if this is the original Ratchet, or just someone who shares the name.

To read GroundSplitter's original post, please click here.

-UPDATE-
More People who attended the NTFA Minicon have also posted in this thread, with more details about the preview Emerging:
Animated takes place in the 22nd century (or was it 23rd?). Some notes (I don't know what is already known so bear with me):

Blitzwing has three faces, although the third wasn't very clear (the entire Decepticon scene is in the dark). First is the strict monocled guy, the second is a very clichéd Arnie "stupid" German accent and the third was just crazy and singing. Not too sure about this guy, but he might make a cool toy.

Allspark looks vaguely Matrix-shaped with handles, but it's much bigger. So far the only Allspark-carrier has been... Ratchet

Blackarachnia is exactly her BW self (her alt mode is considered organic, btw) and Starscream is exactly his G1 self, personality-wise.

Ratchet has a mix of Ironhide/Kup with the "old-timer" personality thing going on. As mentioned, not clear whether he is actually THE Ratchet.

Sentinel (Prime) is an officer in the Autobot army and Ultra Magnus is the Supreme Commander who bosses Optimus around.

Optimus trained at the Autobot academy and is going about doing heroic stuff from the very beginning, but there must be a reason why he's stuck on a crappy repair mission...

Optimus' axe has quite a few features except the energon blade. It has a rocket thruster on it, and the handle can extend Dragonball style for him to do polevaults. Somehow Optimus can also fire nets.

I cannot imagine a lot of people will buy it from Walmart as you were able to get a set for less than half that amount from most online retailers.

However, many have sold out, so this option is now available.

Is this a test to see how well imported collectible toys would sell on the wholesale market? Or something else?

Let us know what you think!

As always, we'll try to keep you informed of any new toys news, in the Seibertron.com Toy News section.

Like many of us IDW's Chris Ryall could not make it to BotCon 2007. However, he is still answering fan question in the IDW Forums. Here is what he has revealed so far:

Transformers Revelation will take place on Earth.

Characters are planned to die in Devastation.

Kup will be back.

Frenzy and Rumble will make it into the main books.

We with see either Cyclonus or Scourge, maybe both.

In the Optimus Prime Spotlight we will learn more about the Dead Universe.

There is one more Spotlight currently planned and it will focus on a character debuting in the Transformers/Avengers crossover.

No word on when IDW will reprint Titans comics in the United States.

Target will offer an exclusive version of the Transformers Movie DVD in November that will come with an all-new 22-page Prequel comic written by Chris Ryall, with art by Don and Andrew Wildman. It features Starscream and some other Decepticons, and even a character that didn't make it into the movie itself, Wreckage.

Also you can view new a never before seen image of Nick Roche's Beast Wars Guidebook images.

Starscream NZ of Transformersnewzealand.com recently had a phone conversation with representatives of Hasbro New Zealand. Starscream NZ learned the following about future Transformers releases in New Zealand:

"Alternators - FARMERS is the only possible stockist of this line, and if they take the line, it will arrive next month (this will be Rumble and Ravage).

Titaniums - .....R.I.P Titaniums Hasbro have NO upcoming releases of these, said they had some Marvel ones, but nothing in the way of Transformers. Guess Toyworld took those few Soundwave/Rodimus's but that sounds like that's all we're going to get folks. Best get importing.

Movie - Toys have a shelf date of June 2"

For one reason or another the Star Wars Transformers line has been fairly successful. CreatureCantina.com was able to ask Hasbro about the Star Wars line. One of the questions focused on how Hasbro chose to market the Star Wars Transformers line. The answer is pretty interesting. Here is the question with the answer:

"CC: Could you please describe the marketing strategy for the Star Wars Transformers line? Obviously, there is a lot of overlap between the two fan bases. I for one am as likely to bore my friends for hours on end describing the Hegellian dialectic operating in the Transformers Movie as I am to discourse on the Roman historical parallels at work in the Star Wars saga. That being said, why didn't we see a greater synthesis in this hybrid line? Maybe a Sith would be so narcissistic as to want to drive a giant robot with his own augustan likeness, but it seems to me that a simple headswap could have had Starscream transforming into an Imperial Shuttle. Did you conduct market tests that showed six-year-old boys preferred vehicles that turned into giant versions of Star Wars characters rather than Transformers that turned into Star Wars vehicles? I'd wager that the 35 year old collector market would have enjoyed the latter.

H: Excellent question and one of the decision points we were faced with when our Star Wars R&D team created the idea for the line. We very clearly kept the Star Wars Transformers line focused on the *functional* aspect of transformation rather than an intellectual property (IP)-based transformation to deliberately not confuse the "real" Transformers storyline. This was especially important considering the upcoming Transformers movie this Summer. For the same extent, we have not as a company pursued any GI Joe-vs-Transformers toys even though the cross-over comics have been very successful. It's keeping the communication very clear from a kid standpoint, which was our primary focus. Believe it or not, we did not factor the collector very heavily into the SW TF line thinking at the beginning, since we were not confident that collectors of either Star Wars or Transformers would be converts to the line. Since this super-cool line has been well-received by both kids and collectors alike, you have seen us delve a little deeper to deliver more collector-focused concepts like transforming Imperial Shuttles, Clone Wars deco-vehicles, and Snowspeeders to deepen the collecting and playing experience."

HASBRO ROLLS OUT TRANSFORMERS TOYS THAT ARE ‘MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE’
FOR THIS SUMMER’S MUCH ANTICIPATED BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE

Hasbro teams up with DreamWorks and Paramount for first-ever live-action TRANSFORMERS feature film release on July 4, 2007

Pawtucket, RI (February 2007) - On July 4, 2007, the colossal battle between the AUTOBOTS and the DECEPTICONS will invade our world when these aliens make Earth their final battleground in the live-action TRANSFORMERS movie. Produced by DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures, in association with Hasbro, the film is poised to catapult the legendary characters and storyline -- which have captivated kids since they debuted more than 20 years ago -- even higher into the stratosphere of pop culture.

First introduced in 1984 by Hasbro and Takara as a toy line, TRANSFORMERS has become a global phenomenon inspiring comic books, video games, animated series, films and a convention dedicated to TRANSFORMERS collectors. Whether fans grew up with the robots or discovered them more recently, they continue to be fascinated by the alien robots from CYBERTRON that live on earth as "Robots in Disguise" and have the ability to change from robot mode to vehicle mode.

The movie, directed by Michael Bay (Armageddon, The Rock, Bad Boys I and II) and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, follows the epic feud between the AUTOBOTS (led by OPTIMUS PRIME) and the DECEPTICONS (led by MEGATRON) as they bring their battle to Earth. In their efforts to help the humans, the AUTOBOTS meet up with an unsuspecting teen (Shia LaBeouf, who starred in Holes and Even Stevens) who finds himself in the middle of an intergalactic war being fought on our planet. The movie also stars Josh Duhamel (Las Vegas), Tyrese Gibson (Annapolis, 2 Fast 2 Furious), Megan Fox (Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen), John Turturro and Jon Voight.

"Hasbro is thrilled to work with DreamWorks, Paramount and Michael Bay in making the most amazing, larger-than-life version of the TRANSFORMERS saga ever created," said Brian Goldner, Hasbro’s Chief Executive Officer and Executive Producer of the film. "Michael, Steven and the production crew have captured the personality of the TRANSFORMERS characters through ground-breaking visual effects and they have translated the storyline into a film packed with non-stop action and excitement."

To bring the action and adventure into kids’ homes, Hasbro will be releasing a new lineup of toys and games based on the characters and styling of the movie. From the OPTIMUS PRIME VOICE CHANGER HELMET to the ULTIMATE BUMBLEBEE figure, TRANSFORMERS fans of all ages will find something that will help them experience the excitement of the movie.

The TRANSFORMERS 2007 line includes the following:

BUMBLEE will "come to life" with robot animatronics action in both car and robot modes. Working headlights, battle sounds, and music, including Devo’s "Whip It", all add to the interactive experience.
