And after the news we reported on with the new Transformers: Earth Wars trailer featuring combiners Devastator and Superion (see here), and the new VIP event over the weekend (covered here), we also have the official press release from Hasbro spotlighting the big bots arriving in the Space Ape mobile game! We also have another look at the trailer, and some extra images of the two new arrivals for the Autobot and Decepticon teams. Check it all out below!

TRANSFORMERS: EARTH WARS Rolls Out Super-Sized Update For iOS and Android Devices

Command the Biggest Bots in the Universe as Combiners Enter Real-Time Combat Strategy Game

BOULDER, Colo., November 10, 2016 – Hasbro Inc., Backflip Studios and Space Ape Games today released their biggest update yet to the popular real-time combat strategy mobile game TRANSFORMERS: EARTH WARS, bringing fan-favorite Combiners characters Devastator and Superion from the iconic Transformers universe into TRANSFORMERS: EARTH WARS. Beloved by fans of Hasbro’s “Transformers Generations Prime Wars Trilogy,” the Combiners will be the most visually stunning and powerfully destructive bots on the battlefield.

Not all bots have the power to combine as these super-sized Combiners are robots formed by teams of five or more designated component bots. The landscape of the battlefield will change as players race to build these new characters and leverage their unique powers and abilities. Along with the new characters, the update will introduce new resources, buildings, and the Combiners themselves in a new campaign based on the first chapter in the Prime Wars Trilogy, Combiner Wars.

“Bringing Combiners into the game was a goal throughout development, and we couldn’t be more excited to have achieved this milestone for Transformers fans,” said Mark Blecher, Senior Vice President, Digital Gaming and Corporate Development at Hasbro. “Combiners bring another level of authenticity to the game and a whole new mission for the player to collect, combine and battle at a new level.”

TRANSFORMERS: EARTH WARS launched in June 2016 topping charts and building a player base of six million downloads. Published by Backflip Studios and developed by Space Ape Games, the game breaks new ground for the genre, pairing authentic Transformers storytelling with fast-paced gameplay, beautiful 3D animation and hundreds of characters with diverse strengths and abilities. The game also features notable storytellers and voice actors from the Transformers franchise, including voice acting from Peter Cullen, the original voice of Optimus Prime, and Frank Welker, the original voice of Megatron.

TRANSFORMERS: EARTH WARS is FREE to download, features in-game purchases, and is available on Android and iOS devices worldwide, except in Mainland China. Please note that a Wi-Fi connection is required to play.

Seibertron Staff Member and man about Youtube Jon 3.0 has reviewed the Wii version of the Dark Of The Moon game.

Dark Of The Moon: Stealth Force Edition
System: Wii
Price: $49.99

I love Transformers... I love games but other than War for Cybertron, I don't normally care for Transformers games. Stealth Force Edition for the Wii isn't any different. There are so many flaws with this game that it was difficult to find GOOD things about the it.

As the name implies, this game is pretty much all Stealth Force mode missions. The names AND voices have been changed and not in a good way. Q is now Wheeljack but sounds like Perceptor, Soundwave sounds cool but is not Frank Welker. The Decepticons have much cooler character voices than the Autobots. Oh, and Dino is now named Mirage. Peter Cullen is better in this game than in the movie and some other familiar voices appear as well: Jess Harnell as Ironhide and Steve Blum (the voice of Starscream from Transformers Prime) as Starscream, Crowbar and additional voices. Besides a handful of actors, the voice acting is pretty standard videogame voice acting - overuse of phrases and actors being pitched to sound cooler or more menacing or just trying too hard to sound like giant robots.

The one thing that I thought would be good in this game is the graphics, but this is the Wii version. The graphics are very simplistic but even worse, the cut-scenes - which are the only reward for playing the game besides the satisfaction of beating it and enjoying the gameplay - are basic 2-D flash animations. Not to mention, you can't skip cut-scenes that play before the missions start. Even the Cyberverse Missions on YouTube are better animated.

The missions are far too easy to play and take far too long to complete. It's basically drive around and shoot things. If you get the feeling that the entire game feels like a commercial for Stealth Force toys, it's because it is.

Gameplay is basic and you will use the left-hand nunchuck a lot more than usual to drive normally, but the Stealth Force mode takes some getting used to because switching to Stealth Force mode also switches the driving controls to the controller and the nunchuck becomes the controls for strafing. The fire and Stealth Force-to-vehicle buttons are easy to use. The coolest control feature is the A button which causes you to do a 180 degree turn which really helps in both vehicle and Stealth Force modes because it's difficult to make normal turns with the regular directional controls. The game does not make full use of the Wii controls like Star Wars: Force Unleashed does. It is nearly impossible to miss a target and you have to actually try to get killed to fail a mission. In fact, most levels can be completed by driving around the maps in circles without actually facing any enemies. Oh, and enemies can be killed by running over them without taking any damage to yourself. You can play as both the Autobots and Decepticons which is a plus. Also Lockdown is very cool in this game, my favorite character in it, and it's nice to see him in action since we don't in the film. His vehicle mode has a slight touch of an Echo-1 sound from Ghostbusters when driving which gave me a little joy... and that was pretty much ALL that gave me joy. The game auto-saves at certain points in the missions in case you die or run out of time which makes it very easy to complete the missions.

One thing that games these days have that can give the entire game a boost is multiplayer. This game doesn't have it BUT it does have co-op missions using a split-screen... doesn't help. The co-op missions are a co-flop. Boring and repetitious like everything else about this game.

The story is nothing spectacular but works for what is obviously a game targeted at the under-12-year-olds. Sentinel doesn't make an appearance and "Operation: Pillar" is briefly mentioned but no major movie spoilers. If I were a kid/pre-teen, I would really love this game but even a casual Transformers fan or gamer will not really enjoy this game... hardcore fans and gamers will HATE it. It felt more like a DS game.

The music is good but monotonous just like the rest of the game and the sound effects are far less than impressive.

Overall, I would give it a 1.5 out of 5 because a 2 is way too good for it. In the words of the great Optimus Prime, this game "must be stopped... no matter the cost." Avoid it like cosmic rust.

Seibertron.com was present during the Activision question and answer panel which covered the upcoming release of Transformers Revenge of the Fallen the Game. Below you will see a breakdown of the events during the panel and a portion of the Q & A session that followed:

ROTF was created in 5 completely unique game modes for multiplayer and all platforms. The Nintendo Wii and DS both have unique versions of the game due to the simpler control functions of the system.

We were treated to video of the game shown with multiple transformation sequences and battle scenes. Different screen shots from the different platforms the game is available on were featured giving us an idea of how different the game is for each console.

Begin Q&A

How do you take advantage of the PS2 control version as opposed to the Wii and its controls?

One of the biggest challenges is making the ps2 version and then moving it to the Wii so they created the wii version first and transitioned them since the wii controls are more simplified. This is why the different platforms have unique versions.

Are you allowed to play as individual constructions in multiplayer mode?

One Constructicon is available but Devastator is a major boss that is not playable. There are bonus characters for multiplayer mode and will be downloadable characters such as Protectobot and Aerialbot (conglomerates of the original combiners).

Did you look at the first game and went with that theme or did your own version of the game?

The developers looked at all previous games plus what fans were saying on the forums to get an idea of what they should do with ROTF which is why multiplayer was developed and the unique versions became a necessity. Multiplayer was a main focus during the creation of the game.

Is Soundwave a playable character?

What we can tell us is that everyone that worked on the game are huge fans of Soundwave.

Can you jump and transform in motion?

Yes you can.

How many people worked on the game? How many of the cast of ROTF are in the game?

The total number of workers on the game were about 80 focused on the game with about 30 doing test version play for the game. They had people working on the game globally with a total of about 140. For number of cast in the game there’s Peter Cullen, Mark Ryan, Jess Harnell, Frank Welker for Megatron, Robert Foster ratchet, Megan fox and Shia Labeouf. Additional voices John Demaggio as Sideways (Futurama’s Bender).

How long will it take to get all the achievements for 360?

Most players will be hard pressed to get to a major boss in any one campaign in less than 60 hours? You have to metal in all levels to even begin to get close to completing the achievements.

Any concern in multiplayer with players corrupting the game?

This was a big concern and a lot of effort was made to make sure that any players that do that have minimal affect on the game as a whole. There is an achievement in which you can receive by getting affected by these players. The unlockable throughout all the games have a lot of things that are for G1 fans.

Based on the generation of games, given the cast of characters, what kind of game play differences will there be playing different characters?

We approached the game play as to what kind of roles each character filled in the game Ratchet has healing ability which is great for teams and Ironhide is a weapons specialist that can help with attacks. There was a lot of time spent making sure the characters had the abilities they’d be expected to have and added additional features that may not be expected.

Since you mentioned XBOX 360 achievments, is there Trophy support for PS3?

Yes.

Any plans for other downloadable content besides characters?

“There’s so much to come”. Definitely more than just characters and it will be equal between platforms.

Compared to the first game, how much more detailed are the characters?

One of the things taken from the first game was improving on the features of the characters making based directly off the movie. A lot of time was spent comparing images and different angles to make sure things like transformation sequences worked well. A big focus was making them blend in more as opposed to “sticking out” and not being in the real world.

How closely is the game play to the actual movie?

There are some things in the game that are spoilers for the film but the design team spent a lot of time with the movie developers to give the game a flow of the movie and give hints as to points in the film but gave added content to it. Overall it follows the same characters and the same storyline but was meant to compliment each other.

What forms of music are being used for the game?

Steve Jabowski was a big part of the music production along with a lot of musicians from the movie soundtrack. Over 100 minutes of unique music was created for the game.

Was Stan Bush’s “The Touch” included?

No.

Are all the game characters getting toys?

Hasbro worked very closely with the team on developing the game and were looking into the possibility of making the game characters that are not film characters.

What type of attacking capabilities will the characters have?

As far as attacks you’re not limited. You can do straight attacks, surprise attacks, aerial attacks and more.

XBOX 360 and PS3 both have 6 G1 episodes as additional content.

How is gameplay for the PS2 version? Will game play lag like in the first game?

A lot of technical issues from the first game were addressed. The second game was completely built from the ground up to allow for better gameplay. There is a coop additive that can be done with the single player campaign for the PS2.
