While we have had plenty of in-hand images and a chinese Transformation review of the upcoming Studio Series Grimlock, we have yet to see an English review of the highly anticipated figure. Well, thanks to a heads up from Kanrabat, we have a new English review, coming to you from Benscollectables on Youtube!
The new video reviews is about 13 minutes long and gives us a good in-depth look at the new figure. Now a few things to note: Benscollectables says it himself: he is not usually a Hasbro/Takara person, but the figure impressed him greatly with its looks and its paintwork, both of which have been noted to be quite impressive. Also important to note is that the Dino mode is the weaker of the 2 modes, and certain angles do show some gaps in the armor, but Benscollectables still says it is quite awesome. The transformation, as we've seen before, bears some resemblance to fellow movie Dinobot Scorn and Beast Wars Megatron, just with knight armor and shoulder mounted spiked T-Rex heads.
Check out the video below, and let us know what you think of one of the most highly anticipated Transformers figures of the year!
We have new in hand images of the highly anticipated Transformers Studio Series Leader Class Grimlock. This figure was first revealed earlier this year by Hasbro at Toy Fair 2018, which we reported on back in February. These images from 神回十六夜 and 模玩麦片周 on weibo definitely show him in a different light (literally) from the amazing images we previously saw from NOTRAB a while ago. We have also included those high resolution images at the bottom for you to compare how the same figure could look. Also we translated Notrab's thoughts on the figure below, which he posted on Chinese social media site Weibo along with a video review with various comparisons on Chinese video website Youku.com.
Here's the awesome Google translation of what NOTRAB wrote on Weibo regarding Studio Series Leader Class Grimlock.
NOTRAB wrote:Studio Series leader-level steel locks, deformation steps and parts count without dizziness but the deformation process is very amazing, the human type made two complete faucets to restore the movie and one of them is the biggest highlight in the dragon type hiding, the painting style is also Very satisfied... finally got a right movie steel lock
Seibertron.com has translated Google's translation as "Studio Series leader-level Grimlock: transformation steps and parts count without confusion but the transformation process is very amazing. The robot mode has two complete dinosaur heads which movie Grimlock's character model had. Those heads are one of the biggest highlights in the dinosaur mode transformation process. In addition, the painting style is also very satisfying. We finally get a properly done movie style Grimlock!" If you have a better translation, just let us know what you would suggest NOTRAB meant.
Of all countries, New Zealand is the one where Transformers Studio Series Leaders Blackout and Grimlock were found first. They are even available online, in an assorment, at New Zealand site The Warehouse for $89 NZD earch (which is roughly $65 USD). It was only a matter of time before we got in hand images. And we have A LOT. Over 50 images of leader class Blackout were posted on the TFND Facebook page.
You can see Blackout in all his glory below, which also includes images of the accompanying Scorponok accessory and where you can store it in robot mode. You also have compairsons to the voyagers in this line where you ca clearly see that inly the robot modes are intended to be in scale with one another (since the alt modes are not). Let us know what you think of this toy and if you will be picking it up the moment you see it. This toy is slated for release on April 20th 2018 across North and South America.
According to Reddit user MaximumBoneage - who is based in Auckland, New Zealand - we have a sighting of the entirety of the first wave of the Transformers Studio Series line, meaning that leader class figures Grimlock and Blackout are also out in the wilds now!
The image below shows off the shelves of the Farmers store in Auckland where the figures were sighted (Grimlock is hiding behind Blackout, the poster confirmed), and we can only make out the price of the Voyager Starscream figure at 59.99 New Zealand dollars - equivalent to 43 USD at the time of writing. If you come across any of these figures anywhere near you, make sure to use our Sightings Database to hep out other fans, and join the regional sightings section of the discussion boards too!

Thanks to a listing on Amazon.jp, we now know both the price and expected release date for Takara Tomy's Turbo Changer TC-09 Battle Command Optimus Prime figure (revealed back in October 2017). The toy with a mouthful of a name is listed on Amazon's site for ¥6,246 (approximately $60US), and the listing indicates that it will be released on April 21st, just under two months away.
