The Transformers Collectors' Club sent out an email update for BotCon 2016. As was mentioned earlier, Scott McNeil is no longer attending but in his place Gregg Berger (G1 Grimlock, Long Haul and Skyfire) will be attending and participating in the script reading with Judd Nelson, David Kaye and Venus Terzo. Also registration will close on March 21 and the update gives a hint concerning the future of the Transformers Collectors' Club. You can read their entire update below.

Hello Members!

We have some exciting news! On Friday afternoon, BotCon registered attendees will be treated to a script reading panel starring Judd Nelson, David Kaye, Venus Terzo, and Gregg Berger! To see this you must be a registered attendee, so make sure you have signed up for your Primus, Golden Ticket Primus, MiniCon or Protoform package. Also, for those who have already registered, if you have not yet added your Judd Nelson VIP Pass to your existing package you can do that today! Visit BotCon for the details and then if you need to register, add the VIP pass or do both, you can do that here.

As you can tell from the above paragraph, there has been a guest change. Unfortunately due to personal reasons, Scott McNeil had to cancel. However, Gregg Berger will now be coming! We will all miss Scott, but we are very excited about seeing our old friend Gregg in a few short weeks.

Registration will close on March 21st so there is not much time left to register. Currently there are only 30% of the Primus packages, 8% of the GT packages and 19% of the Iacon (non-attending) packages, left.

Please note that March 16 is the last day you can join the Transformers Collectors Club. If you are interested in receiving the discounts for BotCon, the 2016 FREE Membership Incentive figure and/or purchasing the TFSS 5.0 (to be revealed in full at BotCon 2016) you will need to be an active member as of March 16. All memberships will end December 31, 2016. Hasbro looks forward to sharing new plans for the Collector’s Club with you in the future.

We appreciate your support over the last 12 years and wish the brand well in their new endeavors.

Tying up some remaining loose ends, we have some further bits of BotCon 2014 coverage, and it's time to stroll down memory lane, right turn before the Iacon exit, at the Generation 1 panel - thanks to Seibertron.com board member Delicon. Read on below!

Hey guys, this is Delicon from the boards. Here is my summary of the G1 Retro panel, which focused on the original cartoons made by Sunbow.

The panelists were Jack Angel (Ultra Magnus, Astrotrain, Smokescreen, Ramjet, Breakdown and more), Hal Rayle (Shrapnel, Pipes, Slag, etc), Michael McConnohie (Tracks and Cosmos from G1 and Hotshot and Ironhide from RID) and Samantha Newark (Ariel from G1 and Jem from Jem and the Holograms.) Susan Blu and Morgan Lofting did not attend.

There was little intro and questions were taken from the start. Here are a few highlights.

As expected, each actor did a voice or two during the panel. At one point Samantha Newark said "Hi, I'm Jem...and these are not my Holograms!" Hal Rayle did his Shrapnel voice and did the famous echo effect. For reasons unexplained, Jack Angel even did some Grimlock (a character he did not originally voice.)

The actors were asked about their work on other shows. Michael McConnohie mentioned accidentally punching Roscoe Lee Browne while trying to deliver a line for the Visionaries series.

They talked about how fun the ensemble style recording sessions were. Wally Burr's unique directing style was discussed as was Frank Welker's tendency to play practical jokes with his voice. Welker loved to imitate sounds such as sliding doors and white noise and fooled Wally with those sometimes.

Casey Kasem was brought up. Jack Angel spoke of their many years they worked together on shows, including Super Friends. Hal Rayle mentioned how his wife (then around 30) told Casey she had loved him since she was a little girl to which Casey responded "Well, you're not a little girl now!"

Jack Angel said he had actually played Jem's father on Jem and the Holograms and joked about being Samantha's dad. He also told a story about how he at one point had been #4 on the list of actors with the most $100 million grossing films but had since been passed by Samuel L Jackson. Jackson had mentioned to Howard Stern that Angel and Welker (#1) weren't "real actors" to which Angel responded with challenging Jackson to get in the studio with him and Welker.

Michael McConnohie said that Cosmos had his voiced loosely based on horror icon Peter Laurie but that he was told to sound like "a very bad Peter Laurie."

The highlight of the panel was a fan who brought up original audition casting sheets (for Angel, Rayle and McConnohie) that he had purchased in an auction from Wally Burr. We learned that on the sketch sheet for Cosmos that there was a rocket instead of a flying saucer. Each actor read lines as their characters from the sheets - Jack Angel as Ramjet, McConnohie as Tracks and Rayle as Pipes and Shrapnel. It was revealed that Wally had crossed out some of the writer's dialogue and come up with his own lines.

Overall it was a very fun panel. All the speakers seemed to really enjoy themselves and interacted nicely with the fans. Other than the script reading, it was probably the lightest and fastest moving panel at BotCon 2014.

Earlier this morning I received my copy of the 50th issue of the Transformers Collectors' Club The Official Magazine. The cover homages Marvel's Transformers #22 which featured Menasor with various Marvel characters outlining the sides of the cover. This cover features Depth Charge's mug shot front-and-center with all of the Collectors' Club characters outlining the cover.

Inside the magazine itself, the following pages and information are revealed ...

  • Brian's Bytes and Bolts reveals that the Subscription figures have been delayed from China. They are estimating that the figures will ship right after BotCon. I'm assuming this means that the figures are being shipped over with all of the BotCon exclusives to save on transport costs. Because of this delay, they are unsure when the 2nd installment payment will be due for those of you who went with the payment option.
  • First look at Transformers Generations Deluxe Hoist (available 4th quarter). Hoist is a remold of Trailcutter. He features a new head and trades Trailcutters trailer topper/shield for a tow hook that appears to transform into Hoist's gun. No wings but I think we'll all be happy to have Hoist join our "Classics" ranks. I'm assuming this figure will be packaged with his Spotlight book in the upcoming deluxe/comic packaged series revealed at Toy Fair back in February.
  • The next two page spread features updated decos for the BotCon 2013 Machine Wars set. As far as I can tell, the only difference is Obsidian has undergone a major color change. Whereas he was a bright green with orange (transparent?) rotors, he now sports a color scheme that seems much closer to his Beast Machines cartoon counterpart along with (transparent?) red rotors. This should make many fans happy that Strika and Obsidian will be utilizing colors from the cartoon instead of one being from the cartoon and the other being from the toy.
  • Transformers Generations Magnificus from eHobby is revealed as a club exclusive! Pre-orders will be available at http://www.TransformersClub.com/shop from April 15th to May 8th. Price is currently listed at $90.
  • The comic continues the Beast Wars Shattered Glass theme. It introduces G2 Hero Megatron alongside some of Takara's Beast Wars II characters like the Seacons, Dirge, Thrust, and the Autorollers. Scylla is still female. :D
  • After the comic, we get a one page "The Transformers Menagerie - Part 2: The Dinobots"
  • Profile pages for Beast Wars Grimlock (Maximal) and Beast Wars II Dirge (Predacon)
  • The back cover features another installment of David Willis' Recordicons as well as two installments of Transformers I.Q.

Hoist, Magnificus, updated Machine Wars deco and more revealed in TCC #50 (now arriving)

Voting is now open for the 2012 Hall of Fame, click here to cast your vote!

Heroic AUTOBOTS JAZZ and GRIMLOCK, as well as the evil DECEPTICON SHOCKWAVE, will be the three robots honored with admission as chosen by Hasbro's TRANSFORMERS Hall of Fame internal panel of judges.

TRANSFORMERS fans now have the opportunity to vote for the fourth robot to join the 2012 class that will be revealed Saturday night, April 28, 2012 in Dallas, TX, at the annual TRANSFORMERS convention known as "BotCon" when the entire Class of 2012 will be officially inducted.
You may vote once per day from 3/9 until 3/21.

2012 Fan’s choice nominee: ARCEE

“I’m more than just a pretty face."

Image

ARCEE has gone through many changes during her career as an AUTOBOT. From pink and white colors to a sleeker dark blue, ARCEE is one of the few female TRANSFORMERS to stand the test of time. ARCEE has proven herself in battle time and time again - whether it is against UNICRON, SHOKARACT or even JAHIAXUS. ARCEE has lost many partners during the Great War, but her most painful memory is losing her comrade CLIFFJUMPER at the hands of STARSCREAM. Two people she could never do without, however is her human friend JACK DARBY, and her great-nephew, RATTRAP.

2012 Fan’s choice nominee: MEGATRON (BEAST WARS)

“You shall vote for me. Yesssssssss."

Image

Using the former leader of the DECEPTICONS as his namesake, MEGATRON orchestrated a plot to steal the Golden Disc, an ancient relic from the time of the AUTOBOT/DECEPTICON war. The disc led MEGATRON and his PREDACON crew to ancient Earth, where they, along with the pursuing MAXIMALS, reformatted into indigenous life-forms, instigating the BEAST WARS. After MEGATRON conquered the alien technology of the Vok, discovered the crashed Autobot Ark, nearly killed OPTIMUS PRIME, and gained control of the DECEPTICON warship NEMESIS, he was eventually defeated and returned to CYBERTRON by OPTIMUS PRIMAL. Once there, MEGATRON created an army of VEHICONS to help him conquer the planet. Unfortunately his beloved rubber ducky was left behind on primitive Earth.

2012 Fan’s choice nominee: WHEELJACK

“Statistically speaking I should be the winner."

Image

WHEELJACK has built everything from magnetic inducers to immobilizers to gyro-inhibitors, and even the occasional DINOBOT. While his inventions often indeed do what they are supposed to, they just as often blow up. WHEELJACK is also a member of the WRECKERS, a division of AUTOBOT warriors who don’t play by the rules and often take on missions that others can’t - or won’t. When called upon, WHEELJACK serves as the chief weapons officer and ship’s engineer for the team. His personal ship, the JACKHAMMER, served as his mobile headquarters in the wake of the great shutdown of CYBERTRON. WHEELJACK had made it his personal mission to cruise the stars in search of lost AUTOBOTS, but specifically for WRECKERS who have lost their way.

2012 Fan’s choice nominee: RODIMUS

“Everyone knows I’ve got the potential to win!”

Image

RODIMUS is young, naïve, headstrong, and daring when it comes to his own safety in the field. Willing to push himself to the limit in order to get the job done, RODIMUS is known for conceiving highly dangerous plans to achieve his objectives. Believing that no bot should ever be left behind, RODIMUS will even put his own spark on the line to keep this promise to all who serve under him. Despite his immaturity, RODIMUS is considered an inspirational figure to many of his fellow AUTOBOTS, and some have even come to call him RODIMUS PRIME. Unfortunately, one time RODIMUS got in OPTIMUS PRIME’S way with disastrous results.

2012 Fan’s choice nominee: SKY-BYTE

“Who's the baddest shark around? Who's the smartest shark in town? Sky-Byte, that's me! ”

Image

A proud PREDACON to the core, SKY-BYTE lead his warriors into battle against AUTOBOTS or DECEPTICONS. His desire to be in MEGATRON's good favor drove him - and sometimes he got lost. His skills are legendary amongst the PREDACON ranks. Legendary because SKY-BYTE rarely completed a mission. He has a soft side for poetry - a skill no one else has - or wants. If it weren't for SCOURGE and the DECEPTICONS, SKY-BYTE would never have strayed from the PREDACON cause. In his jealous rage, SKY-BYTE looked to the enemy for acceptance - including KOJI and the AUTOBOTS. Perhaps that is why the AUTOBOTS allowed him to remain free on Earth after the final battle - where he currently roams the ocean attacking illegal fishing vessels.

Perhaps that is why the AUTOBOTS allowed him to remain free on Earth after the final battle - where he currently roams the ocean attacking illegal fishing vessels.

One of the above listed characters will be chosen to join the 3 HoF inductees already selected:

Image
"Me GRIMLOCK king!

GRIMLOCK fought his way through the gladiatorial pits underneath Kaon to become one of the greatest warriors on CYBERTRON. Having joined the AUTOBOTS early on during the Great War, GRIMLOCK made it clear he never trusted OPTIMUS PRIME to properly lead the AUTOBOTS. Due to his shock and awe approach to combat, GRIMLOCK is not regarded as a great military leader. However, he has fought and survived through enough battles to earn top ranking position among the AUTOBOTS. Having struck out on his own, GRIMLOCK eventually found himself leader of the DINOBOTS, a special operations strike force unit that can power through most barricades and DECEPTICON strongholds. During a battle with the DECEPTICON SCORPONOK, GRIMLOCK¹s vocal processors were damaged, leading to his awkward and distinct way of speaking. If GRIMLOCK has a weakness, it is his larger-than-Prime ego and his lack of patience.

Image

"I do everything with style!"

Before OPTIMUS PRIME became leader of the AUTOBOTS, he was known as Orion Pax and AUTOBOT JAZZ was his closest friend. Respected by his fellow AUTOBOTS for always taking the most dangerous missions in the war against the DECEPTICONS, AUTOBOT JAZZ became one of the best lieutenants for OPTIMUS PRIME. Always selecting a fast and stylish alt mode that reflects his cool and competent demeanor, and having studied the ways of the Cyber-Ninja, AUTOBOT JAZZ always takes in the situation before making any decisions. Once on Earth, AUTOBOT JAZZ quickly became enthralled with its many different cultures. Fascinated by Earth¹s music, AUTOBOT JAZZ seamlessly picked up human slang, which he often uses to relieve tension amongst the ranks.

Image

"Logically, I have been selected for his honor."

SHOCKWAVE has always based his actions on the most logical choices. Having joined MEGATRON during the early days of the Great War, SHOCKWAVE believed MEGATRON would quickly crush the High Council and bring about a new order to CYBERTRON. AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS everywhere fear SHOCKWAVE for his unethical experimentations. SHOCKWAVE believes that through his work, he will discover a better form of existence for CYBERTRONIANS everywhere and sacrifices must be made to accomplish this. To further his goal of reformatting the species, SHOCKWAVE stayed behind to lead the DECEPTICON forces on CYBERTRON during the Great Exodus. On the surface, SHOCKWAVE is unquestionably loyal to MEGATRON, however this only masks his true intentions of ruling all over all sentient beings in the universe.

(NASDAQ: HAS) announced the induction of film industry legends Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg—the director and executive producer of the blockbuster TRANSFORMERS film franchise—into its TRANSFORMERS Hall of Fame. The second annual TRANSFORMERS Hall of Fame ceremony, which celebrates more than 25 years of “MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE” action, will take place during the 2011 TRANSFORMERS “BOTCON” fan convention in Pasadena, California, and will feature TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON director Michael Bay in person to accept his honor and share some special surprises with the audience.

Founded in 2010 to honor those influential in creating and building the iconic TRANSFORMERS franchise, as well as actual “ROBOTS IN DISGUISE,” the 2011 TRANSFORMERS Hall of Fame will induct the two legendary filmmakers who were instrumental in launching the live-action film franchise that brought the TRANSFORMERS brand to more fans than ever before. Bay and Spielberg will join previous honorees Bob Budiansky, Peter Cullen, Yoke Hideaki and Kojin Ohno in the TRANSFORMERS Hall of Fame.

Michael Bay: For the last sixteen years, Michael Bay has been one of the world’s boldest filmmakers as both director and producer. His films have grossed over $4 billion worldwide. Since his 1995 breakout Bad Boys, Bay has directed a succession of international hits that have redefined the action genre, including The Rock, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Bad Boys 2, The Island, and three Transformers films. The third movie in the franchise, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, will hit theaters July 1; it is Bay’s first live-action film shot in 3D. A graduate of Wesleyan University and Art Center College of Design, Bay began his career as a distinguished commercial and music video director. He has won virtually every major award in the commercial industry, including Cannes’ Golden Lion, the Grand Prix Clio, and the Directors Guild of America’s Commercial Director of the Year award. His “Got Milk?” campaign resides in the permanent collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art. Bay is also co-owner of production company Platinum Dunes and owner of Digital Domain, one of the entertainment industry’s premier special effects companies.

Steven Spielberg: One of the industry’s most successful and influential filmmakers, Steven Spielberg has directed some of the top-grossing films of all time, including Jaws, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, and four Indiana Jones films, including the most recent, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Among his myriad honors, he is a three-time Academy Award® winner, earning two Oscars® for Best Director and Best Picture for Schindler’s List, and a third Oscar® for Best Director for Saving Private Ryan. He has been awarded the Academy’s prestigious Thalberg Award. He earned his first Directors Guild Award for The Color Purple and has been nominated by the DGA a record ten times. He has received the Kennedy Center Honor for his body of work. Last year he served as an executive producer on the Academy Award nominated film True Grit, which was directed by the Coen brothers. A principal partner of DreamWorks Studios, he is also the producer of Super 8, directed by J.J. Abrams, an executive producer on TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON, directed by Michael Bay and Cowboys & Aliens, directed by Jon Favreau, all of which will be released this summer.

Hasbro will also induct four more iconic robot characters into the TRANSFORMERS Hall of Fame. Heroic AUTOBOTS RATCHET and IRONHIDE, as well as evil DECEPTICON SOUNDWAVE will join 2010’s class of five robots, as chosen by Hasbro’s TRANSFORMERSHall of Fame internal panel of judges. In addition, TRANSFORMERS fans around the world voted on Transformers.com for a fourth robot to receive the 2011 “Fans’ Choice” honor. The winner, from among the nominees GRIMLOCK, SHOCKWAVE, ERECTOR, WASPINATOR and JAZZ, will be revealed for the first time at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony at “BOTCON” on June 4, 2011.

First introduced in 1984 by Hasbro and Takara as a toy line, the TRANSFORMERS brand

has provided kids with hours of MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE fun with their action figures that convert from robot to vehicles and back again. Legions of boys around the world grew up creating fantastic adventures and battles set on both the planet CYBERTRON and Earth that featured the “good-guy” AUTOBOTS and the “bad-guy” DECEPTICONS. Since then, more than 7500 robots have been introduced in countless animated TV series, comic books and two live-action feature films. A third film, TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON, will be released on July 1, 2011, as the first 3D film in the franchise.
