We got a news tip recently sent into us by a visitor to the site, and it's a big one! Power of the Primes Leader Class Rodimus Unicronus (the Shattered Glass inspired redeco of Wave 1's Rodimus Prime) has been found at a Walmart in McPherson, Kansas! This marks the first verified sighting of the figure anywhere in the U.S. (and perhaps the world), as well as being the first Wave 2 figure to be found at retail! Thanks for sending in your sighting, J!
Have any of you Seibertronians found any new Power of the Primes figures (Wave 2 on up), anywhere in the world you happen to be? If so, please send us a photo with receipt (or a photo with the picture on the shelf at the retail outlet) to sightings@Seibertron.com, and be sure to post your sightings in your local sightings forums and on our Toy Sightings page to help out local collectors!

The first wave hasn’t even hit my local Walmarts yet. On the bright side, means I’m that much closer to completing Volcanicus/Dreadwing.

To me, it's more of a matter of principle. The toy is designed specifically as Rodimus under the influence of Unicron. This doesn't make him a Decepticon; Unicron is not affiliated with the Decepticons. This just seems to come down to Hasbro's reluctance to stray from the Autobot: good, Decepticon: bad structure. They appear to believe children just won't understand any variation to the formula, and I believe they're not giving kids enough credit. My son is eight (cliche I know) and when he sees a , he goes, "Woah! An evil Autobot!" He gets it. I think most kids would get it.

I agree the Decepticon symbol looks much better. This is not shattered glass. This is repurposing shattered glass characters into something less niche.

This is true. I still find it to be a very uninspired approach. There's nothing wrong with throwing a little more variety in the mix. I don't remember any kids my age being like, "Maximals? Predacons? What's going on? My litle brain can't handle all these factions!!!"

I'm a Beast Wars kid and, for me, that was because I never knew about Autobots and Decepticons beforehand. To me, the Maximals and Predacons were the good guys and bad guys, period, no further questions asked.Lore Keeper wrote:Sabrblade wrote:He is as far as Hasbro marketing department is concerned. I had little difficultly transitioning into the other named factions that came after Beast Wars because I had others explain it all to me as it was happening. But let me tell you, I sure was royally confused I was when RiD rolled around in 2001 and it was "Autobots vs. Predacons" when, before that point, everyone told me that the Autobots and Decepticons were the ancient ancestors of the Maximals and Predacons, so instead of it being either "Maximals vs. Predacons" or "Autobots vs. Decepticons", it was neither and that felt weird to my little childlike mind. Then once I got used to it, the show went and introduced the Decepticons in addition to the Predacons, making it then be "Autobots vs. Predacons and Decepticons".

So what? Doesnt the Titanium line predate the SG concept? Those are indeed Motormaster colours (the main component of menasor) and the alt mode having the bulk part be the integated trailer works with how Motormaster has been portrayed in toy form. I dont see it being that much worse than these redecos representing a similar character:

Ya know, I have no idea. They're not used for any of his forms. Though, the pegs on his legs fit perfectly into the unused slots on his forearms and the pegs on his wings fit several slots found o the figure. Perhaps they are the remnants of some abandoned design ideas?

Who knows? And they're unique to Starscream since his retool switches the wings out.
And why is Elita-1 a jet? Slight wink and nudge to Leader-1 of the Gobots?

So you prefer the Dinobot toys having dull yellow heads and other parts over a great looking multi-layered look with techy details and a sparkling golden color? I thought might go that way because they are the guys for cartoon accuracy but even they didn't decide to do it. Maybe that whole "trademarks uniting" nonsense is just an excuse for them to not do that because they know it wouldn't sell well.Hellscream9999 wrote:B/c they'd be crappy under-colored figures, one of the reasons the newer mp's aren't receiving the mass love they used to, the show colors are lazy at best, monochromatic at worst, I never buy the figure with the more subdued color scheme, and, judging from comments going back a ways, a lot of people feel that way too.Rated X wrote:Blame it on stupid toy accurate decos. How is Unicron NOT affiliated with the Decepticons?
Lets see...
*He summoned Megatron and made him a deal he couldnt refuse and Galvatron was born.
*He conspired with Starscream's ghost to try and make Cybertron his new body.
*He interacted with Megatron/Galvatron in major story points in the Armada/Energon series.
*He possessed Megatron in the TF Prime series.
How much more interaction with the Decepticons does Unicron have to have to be "affiliated" ?
At the end of the day the fandom is divided on Shattered Glass. Half of the Botcon/TFCC fans loved it, the other half thought it was really dumb. Hasbro liked the character, but decided to go with the more trusted method of bringing him in the fiction, rather than swim in risky waters.

Still NOT affiliated.
He interacts a lot with Decepticons because they share interests and because HE and them are both the bad guys. BUT Unicron is not a Decepticon. Why should he join them if he can just use them? And therefore he has no interest in turning Hot Rod from an Autobot into a Decepticon.

Does help break up the colors, I'll give them that.
I don't mind the color break. It would look better in dino mode if they were matching, looks better in bot mode as a G1 homage. Six of one, half a dozen of the other, what can ya do?

It got in the way of his legs a little bit with all the stuff they have on the back of them. I do put it on his back in jet mode though for an extra long thruster behind his jet mode!

This is what I was getting at. Connection to Unicron does not mean connection to Decepticons. It's true that the vast majority of Transformers that affiliate with Unicron are Decepticons, but that lends more to their generally evil and self serving tendencies. Transformers Universe did give Children of Primus an Autobot symbol and Minions of Unicron a Decepticon symbol, but this context does not apply to the current toyline / fiction.

It was shown somewhere, maybe on this thread. I tried to find it when I got Dreadwind, but never could. I tried a few configurations and generally didn't like any of them. When I think of the term "toy accuracy" I think of decos that pay homage to 3 awful things:
* Gang molding - The real reason Hot Rod's hands are orange and his lower legs are red. Not because it looks cool, but because it saves money on plastics. Fortuanly the Sunbow animators were able to add additional colors without breaking the bank. Takara obviously has seemed to agree with their position over the years.
* Lack of paint - Can anyone honestly say that vintage G1 Blitzwing's face is purple because it looks cool? Once again its a gang molded part from the purple part of the mold. Once again, Sunbow saved the day and Takara has agreed.
* Crappy stickers - Not to say that all stickers were ugly, but not everybody loves red and yellow polka dots outlined by squares and lines. All these so called "tech" decals make them look very cheesy and super toyish. Take away all the stereotypical blinking lights and control pannels and the character looks more lifelike. (hence Bayverse toys)
On a side note 80% of the decals being replaced by tampos is getting overshadowed 20% of the most horrible round of decals yet. News flash....its not 1986 anymore. Nobody likes decals. Not kids, not collectors. Let it go already Hasbro.

I do not think we are not on the same page on the use of the word "affiliated".
Some rappers wear red or blue bandanas in their videos. They might have not been walked in (initiated) into the Bloods or Crips but are definitely "affiliated" or at least pretending to be.
Lets be honest, one character being homaged doesnt mean the concept of "Shattered Glass" is being introduced to POTP. If a character is going to be billed as a traitor, he doesnt need the color of his faction symbol changed. That goes for characters who become possessed or turn willingly. In the case of Rodimus Unicronus, they feel the visual aspect of the character is a home run. So they gave him a bio that is more appropriate for the line and its fiction.

Thing is, I've never told him about SG. He just picked up on the visual cues. Purple with evil red eyes is like guaranteed to be a bad guy in Transformers.
For me, Fiction and Toys tend to be an entirely different world. Mostly because of OCD.
I like the idea of Shattered Glass, and what I know of the fiction is awesome. HOWEVER, in terms of toys, all it is to me is an excuse to release a bunch of pointless repaints.
If Shattered Glass toys get introduced into the main toyline, that a.) opens the door to countless repaints. I ain't got the money for that. b.) Makes me have to decide whether to put an evil SG Autobot on an Autobot shelf or make a new shelf for SG-stuff. I can't mix faction symbols.
SO. I, personally, appreciate that they played it safe. We needed a Decepticon Leader in this line. And, frankly, we have way too many Autobots, period.

I think this sums up Hasbro's probably thinking perfectly. They needed at least one "Decepticon" leader.

I don't like most of the G1- designs at all (OmG, I think I just said the unspeakable, even unthinkable, aloud) because they are just outdated. I would have been thrilled to bits if they'd have made the rest of the Fall of Cybertron Dinobots no matter if Titan Masters or combiners or none of that. I love modern and futuristic designs and therefore I definitely prefer 's versions in the Prime Wars trilogy in most cases.Rated X wrote:When I think of the term "toy accuracy" I think of decos that pay homage to 3 awful things:
And the main reason why we get those G1 designs with those unrealistically looking details is because of all the people complaining the whole time that they want the same stuff from G1 over and over again.
Everytime is reimagining a character they earn a loud shitstorm of all those G1-fetishists why they totally ruined the character or toy by not making it G1 accurate. The only time they can be really creative with good conscience is when they design the characters for kids like in R.i.D. 2015 because kids don't know G1.
Even Reprolables are affected by that. In the TR line the first sets included a lot of their at that time pretty new honey coated design which were inspired by the War for and Fall of Cybertron games. And they looked great. But pretty quickly they had to include G1-ish stickers, as well and at the end of the line the designs of most of the honey coated stickers became pretty lame/uninspired.
So please correct me if I'm wrong. I'd be really glad if I were wrong.

He has the fix on the wing assembly.
Which is weird, I got one from batch 73141 today that does not have the fix (and will be returning it).

Looking at what we know of wave 3, I only perhaps foresee one other they *may* pass on. Most of the repaints are of classic characters from the animated series. I was surprised they are releasing Slash, but being a new mold, I guess they are going to try it out. Cindersaur will be interesting. I could see passing as it is 1) a repaint of Slash and 2) not a faithful recreation of Guzzle. But since they are no longer sticking to the appropriate Japanese names that may all be irrelevant.
