With a tweet, Takara Tomy Transformers has alerted fans and buyers to the official Takara Tomy Mall listing for the recently revealed Transformers Masterpiece Shadow Panther from Beast Wars, which is actually our first black repaint of the new animal based toyline, in this case Cheetor / Cheetus!
Courtesy of fellow Seibertronian Sabrblade once more, we also have a whole new batch of images from the pre-order page, featuring higher resolution and better looks at all the accessories that accompany the toy, the two modes, its posability, the new deco, and some promo shots with the regular Beast Wars background. With its exclusive TakaraTomyMall, late August release for 8,000 yen (USD 72), will you be picking it up?

I actually don't know about that. I guess it depends on how his bio will describe him: as (a relative of) Ravage, a Ravage wanna-be, or someone completely different. I'm pretty sure "Tripredacus Agent" will be name-dropped somewhere

In fact, Takara's original approach for the guy was, as stated in his bio, how he has the appearance of a Maximal but is, in actually, really a Predacon.

Hmm... Dang. I might display him with the Predacons just to start filling them out a bit. Especially if there is nothing on the toy, itself, that indicates his allegiance.
I may change that depending on the packaging, as well as what toys appear in the future.

A nice piece of news today for those of us Transformers fans that live down under, as Toys R Us Australia has announced they will be stocking the upcoming MP-34S Shadow Panther from Takara Tomy! Thanks to a post on their Facebook, sent to us by our Australian overlord Burn, we know they'll have the figure and they will be accepting preorders until later this month on the 25th. This is one of the first times TRU Australia has offered preorders for an MP release, so it's quite a bit more convenient for collectors.
It's unknown at this time if TRU will stock this figure in their stores, but that question will probably be answered soon enough.

Before people in the west get too excited, Hasbro occasionally does this for TRU Australia with Takara MPs, even sometimes slipping an English version of the card into the box. Don't expect it to show up at any other TRU stores outside of the usual ones in Asia.

It was a bit more than "occasionally" and it was a bit more than the "card".
They imported them for a while complete with English translations for the instructions. The fact they're offering a pre-order is a smart thing considering how many of the MP's they stocked didn't sell. This way they won't be over ordering.

Star Sabre, Bumblebee, Wheeljack, Sideswipe, Prowl, Bluestreak ... might have been others. I think they also stocked the Unite Warriors box sets. They've stocked a fair bit of TT when I think about it, but given their price jacking, it never sold too well.

We have some unfortunate pieces of news for Transformers fans in Australia, specifically about the Takara Tomy Masterpiece MP-34S Shadow Panther and its initially reported availability at the Toys R Us chain stores across the country: user Millhouse over on OzFormers has shared an email from the company now stating that they will not be fulfilling the orders for the figure, as they no longer carry it for a number of reasons, stated below, and are only offering store credit, not refunds.
This is, unfortunately, part of the bigger news that TRU Australia is also going into administration, as we first reported here. And if you're in for bad news, we also have final confirmation of the tax changes brought about by government, meaning that Amazon will no longer be shipping to Australia as of July 1st. Via regular source of news Weibo, and its user 蓝色正午, we have some in hand images of the packaging for the Takara Tomy Transformers Beast Wars Masterpiece MP-34S Shadow Panther! You'll remember that the figure is a black redeco of MP-34 Cheetor, with the addition of a new battle / mutant mask, a communicator arm band and swappable facial expressions. The character of Shadow Panther is a homage to the old Takara Tomy Beast Wars D-7 Shadow Panther, also a repaint of the first Beast Wars cast member toy - our gallery can be seen here.

I'm not entirely pleased by the alt. mode, but having MPs of non-show characters is definitely neat... even if probably they'll release only those that were repaints of major characters.
Speaking of which... no plans for a re-release of Cheetor? It's the only BW MP that is almost impossible to find at a decent (honest?) price.

I'm liking the contrasting paint apps to Cheetor. I think I'll display him with the Mutant Mask though. To differentiate him from Cheetor and because he isn't a "real" character, so he could look like anything regardless. The mask seems more fitting for a Predacon face, as only Megatron and Terrorsaur ever had standard faces.

He arrived yesterday and I am very pleased with my first BW MP redeco. The problems I had with Cheetor seem lessened by a more understated and uniform colour palette. The Mutant Mask is actually the best face sculpt he has. So shiny, it suits the change in aesthetic more so than the standard Cheetor faces. Of course the altmode isn't a panther, but in my case that comes down to nitpicking as I didn't really like the articulation proportions of Cheetor's Beast Mode either.
Very pleased with the first MP Predacon overall. Cheetor is still my least favourite MP Beast Wars figure so far.

In the end, I did find a picture to illustrate what I was saying. The Mutant Mask as the default face for Shadow Panther. It really suits him much better than the Bot faces and aesthetically gives him a bit more of an individual identity, other than just being a black Cheetor redeco.

It also fits with how all the first-year Deluxe Predacons used their mutant heads as their default heads in the show while all the first-year Deluxe Maximals used their normal heads.

About Shadow Panther, how is the paint chipping on him? No one has ever answered that question for me. Is it more like Cheetor, or is it like Dinobot?

Personally I've had none. Granted I don't play with my Masterpiece figures. He has been posed in the same way on the same shelf since I bought him.

Absolutely not. I transform them once out of Beast Mode into Bot Mode and there they remain. Dinobot, for example, was enough hassle to transform without a repeat performance.
