P.S. I can wait a bit for Groove. New pics of him as a chestplate on Defensor can be shown when he is photographed. I WANT DEFENSOR NOW!!!

There. It's out of the way. Dealt with. Go about your lives.
Oh, wait, before you go...
I'm probably late to the party on this, but does anyone else just love Breakdown's sword/gun?

Boo....
You are not too late to say Breakdown's weapon is amazing and lovable. Because it is. Simple. It is a great gun-sword, and it can be used and mentioned as much as it can

It reminds me a little of Side Burn's, except bigger and a bit more on the simple-but-elegant side.

But the original G1 also has the "back pack". Or, "O no! Hollow shins........looks like a K.O.! You are right. You just can't please everyone.

My original plan was to only get Superion (because I had him as a kid and he is my favorite combiner) as well as Mirage and Ironhide (because I don't have them in my Generations collections and I thought they would make nice options to upgrade Superion).
But then I start seeing these amazing images of the Protectobots and even though I still hate Blades' head the other four limbs look phenomenal. So if Hot Spot turns out to be as solid a torso as Silverbolt I may have to scrap my original plan and go in on Defensor instead.
Although I might consider substituting Mirage and Ironhide in place of Blades and Streetwise.
Whatever the case, thank you for taking my money, Hasbro.
You are doomed!
After seeing the new pictures of Hot Spot, yes, yes I am, barring poseability issues with Defensor. Superion sets a very high bar. I had him doing Hulk Hogan poses today for kicks. He can also do the People's Elbow and the Stone Cold Stunner. I'd post pictures but I don't have figures (or easy access to figures in storage) that can take the punishment.

Twitchythe3rd wrote:I don't mind the ladder backpack for Hot Spot. Makes me wonder how it'll be dealt with in the inevitable Onslaught retool though. It seems necessary for the combined mode.
I was wondering the same thing. If they have the missiles on the back, it might interfere with the folding part of the backpack since missiles usually don't fold in half. That or the missiles would be pointing straight towards the ground, making Onslaught the most daring (and cautious) Decepticon alive.

Looks to me like Defensor needs Groove about as much as Superion needs Powerglide.

Can't wait for first aid,he just looks perfect,incidentally surely his alt mode is 100% prowl,just need a big set of bull bars on the front.
the original first was my first ever combiner limb and defensor my first gestalt So this is 100% a buy,especially since it seems to be coming out before menasor in the UK

He looks fantastic to me. I would have preferred the head be black but that's not a complaint, there's too much to celebrate. Looks like justice done to one of my favourite childhood toys.

Aw fuck it, who am I kidding, these guys look great. First Aid, my favorite Protectobot, has an awesome mold and is surprisingly distinct from Offroad, as is Streetwise (who happens to be my second favorite) from Deadend. Blades is G2, so that's almost an instant win. Rook is badass. Hotspot is badass.
My wallet's only hope is that Rook and Hotspot get retooled into other characters that I want soon.

Where the heck am I going to put a third combiner?? I'm going to have to do something because this is looking good.

HA! Took the words right out of my mouth.
But I must say that I don't find Hotspot's alt mode too great. Very little of it cries out firetruck to me. Unlike the Universe mold, this one has a thinning midsection which looks a bit odd, as if the truck is segmented. I have a feeling the alt mode will look much better once its repurposed for Onslaught. Robot mode for Hotspot is Spot-on though And I really love the way they incorporate the ladder in torso mode, it is ingenious.

I just hope that Groove attaches to the chest better than Blackjack does. That really disappointed me.

In general, I like all the combiners. My only beef with the design is they all lack a proper 'butt'. They just have a codpiece that flaps down and covers the front, but the back... not so much. From behind you can tell what's missing.... (literally)
To RiddlerJ:
You can fix the Blackjack problem by putting floor polish (or super glue) as a coating for the pegs on Motormaster. Coat them, let it dry, and the pegs become 'thicker' to the point where blackjack won't flop out. Ditto for Motormaster's arms to keep them from popping loose if you rotate Menasor's gestalt arms. I pretty much wound up using floor polish on ALL of Motormaster's gestalt joints to tighten them up. It makes a world of difference.

Hot Spot => Inferno
First Aid => Ratchet
Streetwise => Prowl
Breakdown => Red Alert
Off Road => RID Strongarm
I mean, it's essentially the same 'theme' of emergency response alternate modes, but an entirely different character. Not saying I'd want it over Bruticus, just saying that it would be neat. Or maybe what'd be neat is if we simply wound up getting enough CW characters we can make up characters like that ourselves. We're already getting Prowl, Ratchet, Ironhide, Mirage, and Sunstreaker, right? Given the available molds, Red Alert, Trailbreaker, and Sideswipe seem like no brainers, and Grapple, Hoist, and Wheeljack are in the realm of feasible.
I never do much with the 'Scramble City' aspect because I don't like to break up sets of established characters, so I guess I'm just excited to get some Combiner Wars characters that are random additions to the line, with no particular gestalt identity defined, but I really want a LOT of those characters, to increase the number of possible combinations.

The fact Discharge was made/confirmed female with the reissues only makes it worse
Should Bruticus be in the works (we wouldn't see him until Fall with reveals for next year), then I got something more probable: Guard City vs. Battle Gaia

On a more serious and slightly less disturbing note All the Protectobots are looking fan-friggin-tastic. Especially Hotspot

His alt mode is the weakest IMO but torso and bot mode are spectacular.
The whole team is really growing on me the more i look at them. Well done Hasbro.
I can't believe i'm buying a Defensor

Honestly, disagree. The heavy retoolings are a massive improvement over the previous status quo, in my opinion, and have enabled a wide range of surprisingly unique character portrayals in the Combiner Wars.
Plus, that Hot Spot mold is begging, just begging, to be Onslaught.

So, no Onslaught period, then?
Starsaber468 wrote:...because we want new molds plus new molds are always improvements (usually) plus onslaught would be such kore of improvement of an awesome already figure
Ah, I see. You want an additional mold. Well, then. Which other figure(s) shall we not get then? Molds are expensive to produce, and personally, if they can get multiple uses out of them, as long as the molds make sense for the character, I'm all for it! Because the alternative isn't more new molds, it is less toys altogether. So if you want Onslaught to have his own mold, then tell me which Voyager class Combiner Wars mold you'd like to not have, instead, please.
If they can remold and repaint Hot Spot into a credible Onslaught, then bring it on.

There's enough on hotspot that can be retooled extensively for onslaught, similar to silverbolt and Cyclonus. You can debate if it works, but you can't deny despite having the same base, most of their details are completely different.

But how do you know that Hotspot isn't the retool of Onslaught? Just because he was put into production and distribution before doesnt mean he was the character this mold was originally designed for. Due to how flat the alt mode is, I really feel this was originally designed as Onslaught's.
We have proof of this kind of thing happeneing as far back as the alternators line and we are clearly seeing it with all the extra limb bots in Combiner Wars. Another good example was the Generations Megatron/g2 Dreadwing mold.
So just wanted to say that for all we know, we are looking at the retool already.
