Kal El also has a review of the G1 deco version of Leader Megatron and will also be posting a comparison video. You can follow his reviews here.

The first video shows what was found on the showcase floor, which includes Defensor, Ultra Magnus and the new Legends figures. The second shows the assembly of Leader Magnus' Hammer.
I would like to point out that the first video PROVES what calmer heads (Shajaki and myself, among others) have been saying for weeks. Generations Devastator is NOT as tall as Generations Metroplex. The back of the box clearly says Devastator is 18 inches tall. Metroplex is just over 24 inches.

Isn't that what the MP was?
Also, haha I was right, The protectobots' alt modes are definitely futuristic. I would not call Hot Spot's alt mode earth based. It's design is far more cybertronian.

I'd say they're pretty believably Earth-based. What's so Cybertronian about Blades? Rook doesn't look so much alien as utilitarian for a SWAT vehicle. First Aid is just an SUV. Streetwise is a little stylized, but lacks anything truly alien in his design. And has already been pointed out several times now, Hot Spot is based on an airport firetruck, like Sentinel Prime in Dark of the Moon.

Viper does nothing for me (not a Joe fan) and while I love IDW Thundercracker, I'm not digging this particular retool. Suspect I'd also be into Voyager Cyclonus were it not for Silverbolt's tail sticking out the back, but I'm withholding judgment on him until I see who he's meant to combine with.
Buying:
EVERYTHING!!! Ultra Magnus, all of Defensor

megatronus wrote:Do folks think that Minimus Ambus figure is new-Legends-sized (i.e. Powerglide, Skrapnel, etc.) or old-Legends-sized? His lack of elbow articulation would suggest the latter, but I really hope it's the former. Ambus is tiny, but not that tiny.
Maybe this is the Minimus from within the Minimus armour that's in the Ultra Magnus armour...
But yeah he looks tiny. Joint size, paint apps and lack of wheels kinda hint at that.

The protectobots look really nice! I'll be able to justify getting the re-moulds as well, might skip on Alpha Bravo now so I don't end up with three choppers though even though I kinda prefer him over slingshot.

Not thrilled with bot mode Cyclonus...but love the jet mode. Really wish I had a Voyager scale RTS Cyclonus bot. Still yet, I like this better than the Motormaster...any word on Scourge yet?

Not that this one is better, but I cant justify getting 2 big Magnus toys that emulate a similar look, albeit different of course. And the combiner wars one will both be more compact, 75% less costly and fit with more of my toys. So it was a no brainer for me in this particular case. What I really feared was missing out on the engineering involved in turning a car carrier into a robot and this one fits that bill just fine.
On question though, who is minimus ambus?
Also, I find Defensor super bulky. Groove making the chest piece is a cool look but the whole combiner just seems too wide, especially his legs. And I do not like that Rook figure, whose hands are not working at all.
Love t=what they did with the other protectobots though.
DON'T DO IT!
Keep MP UM. You won't regret it wj88!
There is no way I would trade out MP UM for this

Defensor is also looking good, especially with the individual bots, especially hot spot on top of that.
On that note though; legends groove, is he mistransformed in that official pictures as he looks to have spindly legs.

Ultra Magnus looks good in botmode, but i have no love for that truckmode or the small figure that comes with him. It's too anime styled to fit in with CHUG.
Defensor looks damn nice. I can get used to Hot Spot's futuristic firetruck although i would've preffered a more Earth like cab, but i think it's a shame they made Groove so small and are introducing another member. In this case i think they should have just made Groove a Deluxe class figure. I am also not a fan of all of the wimpy bashing rods or axes most of the Deluxe class Combiner Wars figures come with, just give them a gun that can hide in altmode on the underside.
Megatron looks sick, but why is Hasbro making him a Leader class, should've been a Voyage, come on Hasbro make it happen please we need a new CHUG Megs that fits in scale with the others.

Alpha Bravo is better in all facets, even if he's a size-class smaller. That's just me.
I meant height-wise. The Blackout mold is a small-ish Voyager, right?

I'm with you on this one. I find CW Magnus way more impressive looking than the MP. Also, he will cost 60$+tx at the very worst while MP Magnus cost 200$US + at least, 50$ of shipping. Add also around 30$ of custom fees and I will have some serious buyer remorse if I ever buy him.
So, CW Magnus all the way!

A lot of the plastic of blackout went into the big piece that attached to his back with the rotors attached. It was really small though still. I got the redeco of it with the bludgeon redeco of wreckage. The height difference between them was minimal once the back pack was taken off.

You're only saying that because it has good Combiners, by Hasbro no less and not some expensive 3rd Party And I wholeheartedly agree!
I'm gonna have to see what TakaraTomy will do with Defensor. Keep Rook, or go for Groove as a limb. The latter may very be an indication of what's to come mold-wise...

Edit: I went back to the wiki, and reminded myself that the extra limbs names are heatrock and sky feather. The head sculpts look quite different from rook as well.

ZeroWolf wrote:Simply speculating but when would hasbro be able to hand over a mold to Takara? Given the heavy retooling seen so far, afterburner into groove makes a lot of sense.
I think they basically take turns: when one's done, the other gets its turn. There have been instances where Hasbro and TakaraTomy stock were produced side-by-side I believe.
gothsaurus wrote:It bothered me how the various limbs didn't match exactly to the G1 Protectobots... Until I heard about the two extra limbs in the takara continuity. Rook was a drill tank, and there was another red jet. Then they had all of the original five guys. I am wondering if the box at version released overseas might have all seven characters? I'd love to see that.
That's not Rook: that would be Heatrock and Skyfeather. And they combine in a different way with the Protectobots. Plus, I doubt they're canon, since Kabaya toy characters haven't been featured in official material as far as I know.
Would be funny though if someone could made Gaia Guardian and the two versions of Gaia Scramble

Friends, I have been at this a for 19 years, and I haven't been this excited about Transformers in long time. Maybe not even since My bro sent me Classics Bee for my birthday and made me realize how great those were.
I've had the 1st wave limbs for over a month now. Yesterday Prime and Sbolt arrived in the mail. I was up til 2 am SCRAMBLIN' all over the city! I gave Bravo the first go as a limb, just to ease the rookie into his new position.
It's been a long wait, but Has/tak has finally nailed it as far as combining goes. It was worth the wait. The connections work so well, and the joints are superbly tight ans stable. I contorted Superion into all kinds of amazing poses.
I'm really excited about the interchangeability of this line. I see a lot of folks reminisce about having incomplete sets as kids. I'm no exception. I like to think of the 9 year old kid out there right now who, maybe only ever gets one voyager and at least 4 random limbs to make a complete giant. That kid is gonna have so much fun, and play with those guys forever.
This is such a smart move on Hasby's part. There is just so much room for play in this line.
and after seeing whats on the horizon ( like Ultra Magnus ) I can barely contain myself. I feel like... like this

Optimus Prime look weird and I find stupid the fact he pretend to be a "Scramble City" combiner. Optimus should combine with one other bot for a super mode and that's it.
Menasor, however, look awesome. Let's hope his limbs are all different molds. The best one so far, the MUST HAVE for me, is Defensor.
Also, Devastator. Man, I WANT that thing!
Leaders "G1" Megatron and Ultra Magnus are also "must haves" for me.
2015 will be VERY interesting!

Nemesis Maximo wrote:I dare say this Magnus looks btter than the Masterpiece!
I think this depends on what you want our of your Ultra Magnus. I own the MP Ultra Magnus and saw the Generations Leader version at Toy Fair yesterday.
ALT MODES:
The alt mode for the MP Magnus blows the Generations Magnus out of the water visually.
Winner - MP Magnus and it's not even close.
ROBOT MODE:
I like the IDW inspired robot mode on the Generations Magnus and his legs are a lot less bulky than the MP. However, MP Magnus is much bigger and more detailed. I'm leaning toward the G1 look more, but they're both good.
Winner - MP Magnus
TRANSFORMATION:
MP Ultra Magnus has an incredible transformation. It's amazingly engineered to transform the cab and trailer into robot mode. And you can still remove the cab from the trailer in bot mode!
Winner - TBD, but the MP transformation is wonderful.
COST:
MP - $190
Generations - $45
Winner - Everyone! If you have the money, get the MP. If you don't, you have a nice alternative. Win, win.

In IDW G1, Minimus Ambus IS Ultra Magnus. The entire altmode is just armor; it's how they both did an inner robot but also got around doing a boring White Prime.
Posted by ZeroWolf on February 15th, 2015 @ 11:17am CST
Minimus Ambus is the bot currently inside the magnus armour in the IDW comics.
Posted by Cobotron on February 15th, 2015 @ 11:22am CST
Batsy, this is incorrect. All five are original, there transformations are very similar, but they are all different. Unless one goes the Takara route. Doesn't mean you have to like it though.-Kanrabat- wrote:Superion don't interest me mainly because it's only 3 molds for his whole body. A torso, one arm, one leg, and repaints of boths.
