Not saying I'm opposed to the idea, it's just that this doesn't reveal anything new.

Guesses about component character identities are the obvious idea of Dust Up being made into Nightbird, and Pyra Magna being made into the only known "wife of the Emperor of Destruction" there is: Esmeral (Deszaras's wife).

I was gonna say, retooling Victorion would kind of defeat the purpose of the release, right? Introducing American heads Japan hasn't gotten yet?

Heh heh, thanks.
Speaking of Vicky and her...robust proportions, I did a (very crude) digibash to try and give an idea of how she SHOULD look if she got an original mold rather than being a somewhat lazy retool (granted this would probably be completely impossible to achieve, but in an ideal world in which, say, Maketoys did an all-new mold version of her, this would be a good framework for her overall silhouette).
(Yes my photomanipulation skills are terrible. So sue me.)
But anyway, my ideas for improving Vicky:
>She needs narrower shoulders.
>The copter tails, rather than forming broad 80s shoulder pads, could instead go vertical and form Evangelion/Gunbuster-esque shoulder pylons, thus still remaining intimidating/imposing whilst not just looking manly.
>She needs an overall narrower body, especially the waist (to compensate for this she should have a longer torso and limbs so she isn't too petite).
>Her lower legs should be slimmer.
As for some things I couldn't 'shop on because I suck with GIMP:
>Rather than having sheer mass, she should improve her overall silhouette with lots of protruding things- fins, antenna, guns, blades, the previously mentioned shoulder pylons etc.
>Alternatively she could still have big ol' shoulders, but rather than just having broad shoulders, she should have more normal feminine shoulders, and make up for it with big ol' shoulder pads which are obviously separate from her actual shoulders.
>If she must have heels (which personally I don't think she needs) they should be longer, pointier and less blocky.
>Overall, she could stand to look less like a traditional Scramble City combiner and more like something a bit more...elegant? Refined? Here's a few mecha designs I think would be good for drawing inspiration from for a theoretical "new" Victorion toy.
(One of the mecha from Five Star Stories, AKA the most gorgeous looking mecha series ever)
(Detonator Orgun, one of Masami Obari's mecha designs)
(The Qubeley from Zeta Gundam)
(The ANIMA design of Evangelion Unit 01)
The sword is cool as is but I wish the individual weapons were less awful (aside from the war pick and the two swords).

So your solution to her having nonstandard proportions is a redisign by Obari or Nagano, both if whom are known for their nonstandard propiirtions...
It's a bit odd man. That ssuper svelte waist doesn't really match up with giamongous hips. But hey, if thats how you like your femmebots, whatever floats your boat.
Nagano and Obari are both wicked designers, but they feel very different from both eachother and from transformers for me. Except japanese G1 and braves, which are obari as F.
Out of curiousity, whats your stance on Okawara, Katoki, Kawamori and Shinkawa?

Well the problem isn't so much nonstandard proportions and more that she has very standard...male proportions. I dunno, I really like aesthetic variety, and Victorion being Blocky Robot #84647 is kinda...dull. But then I have very strange tastes- I'd like to see an Abominus with digitigrade legs, hooves and Gigeresque Kenner Alien style sculpting.
It's a bit odd man. That ssuper svelte waist doesn't really match up with giamongous hips. But hey, if thats how you like your femmebots, whatever floats your boat.
Heh heh. In all honesty that shoop was a really bad job on my part. I think I should have rounded off the hips a bit.
Yeah I see what you mean. But then I'm a huge fan of Brave/J-G1 designs.Nagano and Obari are both wicked designers, but they feel very different from both eachother and from transformers for me. Except japanese G1 and braves, which are obari as F.
Out of curiousity, whats your stance on Okawara, Katoki, Kawamori and Shinkawa?
Kawamori is awesome. He's an actual engineer so most of his designs "work". I'm one of the few that loves MP-03's design.
Katoki's the Five Star Stories bloke right? I love love LOVE those designs. They're so bloody REGAL.
Yoji Shinkawa is cool as hell. I actually considered buying one of the cheaper transforming ZotE Revoltechs and customizing it into a Cybertronian Thunderblast.
Kunio Okawara is pretty great. IIRC he did most of the 0079 Gundam designs, which for the most part I love.
Another mecha designer I love is Yamashita (AKA the guy who does the mecha designs for Evangelion). He does some really, really cool art.
TLDR: I really love seeing differing aesthetics/design cues in Transformers, and I wish there was more variety amongst the combiners- Victorion being the first all-female SC combiner I wish she was more unique designwise.

Actually, Hajime Katoki is the modern gundam designer. He's the chap behind the mastergrade toyline and the Unicorn gundam. Think huge long legs.
Mamoru Nagano who designed the quebeley and most of the outlandish Z and ZZ era gundam designs is responsible for the FSS mecha designs. (fun fact: he's married to the VA for Quess from CCA & Beltorchika from Z.)
I share your enthusiasm for Shouji Kawamori, particularly his work on armored core. I love his stylish realist designs. Though a lot of his mechs all suffer from limited hip articulation, only forward and backwards, no in/out or rotation!
The more you know!
EDIT: Added first names for the designers, for ease of googling for the uninitiated.

Ah, I thought I was getting something wrong. I do like Katoki's designs though, controversial in some circles though they are.
And yeah, I reckon the limited outward hip movement on Kawamori robots is a result of one of two things:
1: Actual mechanical limitations, as his designs are extremely "realistic" (the Valkyrie is THE definitive transforming plane robot, but most toys of it suffer in the leg department due to the complex leg transformation).
2: His undying fetish for hip-pods (which I share).

Jumpstream = Nightracer

In any case after the absolute madness of Grand Galvatron I wouldn't say there's many things that are "too much to hope for". Especially if this IS Esmeral, who has a completely different body frame.

From the looks of the Decepti-Victorion head sketch, it looks like they're gonna be painting an extra set of beast eyes on her helmet to emulate the eyes of the bird kaiju helmet her husband wore.Kurona wrote:Madeus Prime wrote:Stormclash = Bayonet

Not only does it look different to Defensor it also look slimmer of frame too.
(not so different from fan transformations for Optimus Maximus really).
If Takara make their own version they should consider changing out one of the Helicopters for something else.

Well, sort of...
One of the helicopter molds has to be inferred from a shoulder, and you only see Jumpstream's head and chest. While the head is the same, the chest certainly isn't. Other than the head, which I'd guess is on a separate mold with the other heads anyway, there's nothing to suggest it's the Breakdown mold.
It's entirely possible that the different chest is just artistic license being employed to allow for the opportunity to imply cleavage. That said, it's not like Takara hasn't remolded larger boobs onto transformers in the past.

It shows the same head, and I doubt they'd put the head onto an entirely new body. I guess it's possible, mind. Maybe they'll even retool one of the Helicopters into a new vehicle mode. Anyone remember those Blast Off mockups made out of Alpha Bravo?

It all depends on what you want and what is dear to you. I liked us Bruticus more due to a proper Blastoff. But I was able to get Hasbro's 5 member team for less than 60$ so at that price I was morevthan happy with Hasbro. Shuttle blastoff was not so dear to my heart, more like a nice to have.
As for computron, I cannot stand the idea of having a new and different combiner have the exact same looking torso and head as another and thus I am glad to pay the extra import costs. For me it's takara's or none at all.
If you don'tind Hasbro's then wait for an eventual sale on amazon and use your savings on getting more toys you like

But part of the reason I like the show accurate figures is because it's on the show where you saw these figures personalities and character.
Yes the toys come with "descriptions" of the figures, but they're really short, and come nowhere close to how you could watch the characters actually act/react in different situations, with other characters, etc.
Anyway, shouldn't be long until UW Comp is in stock!
Posted by Sabrblade on August 18th, 2016 @ 8:10pm CDT
While true, that characters would appear in the show didn't always mean that their appearances in the show were always good-looking. Some very ugly character designs cropped up the cartoon just like some neat-looking ones did too.Sowndwave76 wrote:I understand Hasbro's Comp set looks closer to the original toys in terms of colors.

Sure, fair enough.
But in this case, the UW set looks amazing...
And in the grand scheme, Computron is a little more obscure than a lot of other G1 characters.
So finally getting a proper update... I want the set that most look like the characters.
For a long time I was hooked on how great the new headsculpt and chest area look.
Which distracted me a bit from how bad the Hasbro torso looks because it really is just Superion's torso repainted.

Possibly. I know BBTS sometimes gets a smaller order shipped air to fill some orders then fills the rest later when the slow boat from China arrives, literally. This might be the case for TFSource.
Or, a worse case scenario is that they oversold, but I like to remain positive, so let's not go there...

If so, I will assume that "Preorder Products (back ordered)" is just odd wording on their site. After all, UW Computron, if you go to his individual listing page, is listed as "pre-sold out," and you cannot actually place an order. At best, you can submit an e-mail address to be informed when (or, possibly, if) more become available to order.
Meanwhile, everything else in my stack is just listed normally, and is able to be preordered. So if you were actually able to place an order in the first place, I wouldn't worry.

"proper" to me is a space shuttle
But yeah, for $60,- I'd happily take that trade-off for an airplane Blastoff and a brightly coloured Vortex, and a black Bruticus head instead of the Takara version.

No, he meant that he liked the UW one more, but he couldn't pass on the CW one for $60.Sjeng wrote:william-james88 wrote:Sjeng wrote:william-james88 wrote:I liked us Bruticus more due to a proper Blastoff.
