I especially love Jetfire and despite the thread that referres to Hasbro's version as pure unsatisfactory, I can honestly tell you Takara's version is just stellar! Regardless of the flaws they are totally out weighed by everything that is great about this Takara Jetfire.
I got Roadbuster and Brainstorm on the way and judging by the figures mentioned above I'm sure to expect even more greatness when they arrive...another score Takara!

You mean in order to get a fully comic-accurate Magnus I gotta buy Takara for the body AND Hasbro for Minimus?!

If you're gonna buy both and mix-and-match, I'm sure you can sell off Alpha quite quick.

So, if I want both I get double dipped for the equivalent of a $3 arms micron!
What a privilege to give Hasbro my hard earned cash for the smallest and cheapest to manufacture product that they can produce!!

Red thighs for IDW comic accuracy

That's not the same body.Wolfman Jake wrote:They've been white too in IDW.
That's the body from the 2009-2011 ongoing. This toy is based on the MTMTE body.

Wolfman Jake wrote:They've been white too in IDW. So, why would Takara go with a comic-accurate deco and NOT include Minimus Ambus, who is integral to the character of the version they are trying to emulate? Insanity! Plus, that's one itty-bitty Alpha Trion. Hasbro version still wins for me. A rarity, but I just like it better.
That's an older comic I believe. When I said IDW I shouldve said MTMTE.
as to why Alpha Trion? I have no clue.. to make you get both? It's working on me =D

Maybe he's the only facial-haired elderly Autobot from the cartoon that Takara could think of.mooncake623 wrote:as to why Alpha Trion? I have no clue.. to make you get both? It's working on me =D
Though, you know who might have worked better in Takara's favor for being a facial-haired, elderly, cartoon Autobot who IS small? Governor Raikuru.
Sure, he equally has jack to do with Magnus, but it's someone who hasn't gotten a toy yet and is from a cartoon Takara's audience is familiar with.

Probably to avoid introducing (too many) new characters in a G1-centered line. We already had Windblade, and Minimus Ambus would be practically unknown to the Japanese except for the ones who can read the English comics. Since he has facial hair, Alpha Trin (see my previous post) was a logical choice, especially concerning his connection to Dion and what possibly became of him

Optimizzy wrote:sigh. So Japanese fans wont see a Minimus Ambus release? They do have the comics over there I think, so I;m sure there will be some who would have been excited for this. Why even a repaint into Alpha Trion? It makes no sense. It's almost like the designers had no idea what Hasbro was going for and tried to "fix" it.
Japan does have original US comics, the same way we have original manga: imported and not officially translated I think.

If Takara were that concerned about keeping things as "G1" as possible, then why detail the Magnus figure as the IDW version and not try to make it more faithful to the original cartoon, as is their usual style? Repainting Minimus Ambus was just a WEIRD move, any way you slice it.

Other than the red thigh, TTomy UM/Alpha is perfect. However, since I'm a cartoon freak when it comes to G1 UM, the white thigh from Hasbro is a bless.

Rated X wrote:Wow thats lame. If anyone wants a real classics Alpha Trion, get your hands on Titanian Saint. You wont be disappointed.
I beg to disagree. The best incarnation for A-3, classic, G1 etc (never transformed btw) is this. And it's official:
But if Tomy is aping for the IDW (Ambus isn't that too familiar to Japanese fans), then the closest thing to label the mini figure would be a modern A3.

I was gonna say because it's toy accurate.
But that's just how I like my updates.
They are starting to release the comics in Japan though, right?

The episode which eventually lead to Leokaiser's intro iirc.

It makes almost no sense. But UM himself is my main focus so it doesn't really bug me.

Don't see what the big fuss is all about with recoloring Ambus into Alpha Trion colors. Doubt anyone is buying this toy solely for the minicon class toy.
Think that Titanian Saint is a bad example of a good update Alpha Trion toy. As it looks like a combination of a cheap KO and a snap together garage kit toy.
Think the best update G1 Alpha Trion toy. Is that Botcon Alpha Trion repurposed Vector Prime toy.

Tsutsukakushi wrote:Think the best update G1 Alpha Trion toy. Is that Botcon Alpha Trion repurposed Vector Prime toy.
Agreed. BotCon 2007 Alpha Trion is pretty darned good for a "Classics" style update. That's been my neo-G1 Alpha Trion for years now. I wouldn't mind seeing that Million Publishing concept of a repaint/retool of Generations Scourge as Alpha Trion at some point in the future, though.
