Greetings Seibertronians! Fellow Seibertron user, and YouTube toy reviewer, Chuckdawg1999, has uploaded a new video review of the recently released Transformers Studio Series Bumblebee Movie Voyager Class Starscream! This toy turned a few heads when it was revealed, as everyone assumed that he was a retool of the already released Blitzwing mold, but all the two share in common is the same aesthetic.

Check out what Chuck has to say about this figure:

Chuckdawg1999 wrote:Starscream is a fine Voyager and an interesting take on the Cybertronian Tetrajet, definitely looks like a ship I flew in some 80's space shooter video game. Transformation is interesting but relies too much on friction to hold parts in place. Overall, if you're a movie fan this is a good addition to your collection.

We have embedded the review below for your convenience:

What do you think of this version of everyone's favourite schemer? Do you already have him? Planning to get him?

I just want to be clear that I feel that Starscream is an extensive retool from Blitzwing. From what I could tell Hasbro would take a shared part, like the thigh piece, and mold new tooling around it as I show in the video. One piece that I didn't notice until after I filmed was the gun; the tip of the barrel and missiles are the same but have new tooling behind them. Also having the figure in hand it's clearly obvious that they share the same buck. It's amazing to see what Hasbro did with Starscream, getting so much from so little, but it is NOT an entirely new figure.

Last week I bought from my local geek store the new Transformers Studio Series Sentinel Prime. That toy is absolutely fantastic and is ridiculously screen accurate for it's size and price point.

But last week-end I had a desire. The desire to get the original Dark Of The Moon voyager Sentinel Prime I spotted over there. So today I got him. I know this 10 years old toy is trash. But I wanted the eksperience of finally handling him and to have the pleasure of shaming the poor thing beside his much younger self.

So without further ado, here they are.
Old DOTM to the Left, newer SS to the right, just in case:

Image

Right from the start, we see that the old one is much smaller and thinner. He have a big gun but that's it.

Image

Both do have a large backpack, but the old DOTM one have about ALL of his truck mode on his back. And because the bot is so small and thin, it appear much worse on him.
The newer SS at least make the effort to make his backpack look like a cape.

Image

The old face sculp look like a basic police sketch while the new onelook like ripped from the silver screen.

Image

The old truck is nice but once again, much smaller. It's also look much "toy like" and less "collector" than the SS.

Image

Image

The transformation of the old DOTM one was still interesting and fun. Way more simple than the SS. However, transforming the new SS is much more satisfying. :)

Well, that's it! I had fun comparing the two. Hope you had fun reading this silly post as well!

it was, thank you. If only the SS version was all red like the DoTM version, it would have been perfect. That's way too much black.

I was obviously a matter of paint budget. SS Sentinel have LOT of paint. Still, I do wonder if it would have been better to cast the whole thing in red plastics and paint key areas in brown/black? I think it would not only have been feasible but it would have been indeed better.

They did that with the DOTM leader if I remember correctly, he was mainly red plastic for the body area.

Red paint on black vs. Black paint on red. Which have looked better in the long run, especially considering paint scratching off?

Thanks for the comparison, Kanrabat! I regretted not picking up one of the Sentinels back during the DOTM line, but now I'm glad I waited for the Studio series one xD

I've already talked about SS Sentinel but it really is a great figure.

If you can find the original DOTM voyager for cheap, I recommend him. Simply for curiosity's sake and to see how things have evolved in a decade. Also, as a stand alone toy, it's still quite fun.

At my local Target today I saw a WWII BB in SS 74 packaging. This appears to have been a genuine factory error as there were several of both on the pegs, and no evidence of tampering. Anyone else see anything like this?

Such factory errors don't exist, and hiding tampering has been really easy with the right tools. In this case, #74(BB) is the RotF Bumblebee one... with no discerning identifier like "WWII" or "Offroad", so toy swapping and getting away with it becomes even easier.

It seems to all have come from the same case however. Usually a toy swap occurs to exchange a common toy for a rare one or an older toy for a new one. There is no sensible motive here. I'm.not saying it isn't human tampering, but I don't think factories are perfect either

True, but it'd have to be on a bit of a larger scale before I dismiss human tampering. It's an easy mistake to make with so many Bumblebees...

John Warden confirms that SS86 Jazz's #14 was a deliberate combination of the G1 toy's #4 and the G2 toy's #1:
Hi All! We mixed up the numbers of G2 (1) and G1 (4) to keep it fresh in the alternate universe of War For Cybertron. That way customisers could choose which number they preferred. Jazz has always been a favorite of mine, glad people are excited by this figure.
Note that he also specifies it was done for the WFC Trilogy when Jazz was released as a Studio Series figure instead.

Okay... I get that is THE official answer... Still, kinda sounds like BS...
This Jazz (which yeah, funny ended up in SS86) is the G1 version...
SO... Someone wanting to “customize” this has to go through a whole lot to make this a G2 version, not just somehow make omitting the ‘4’ look decent...
IF this is truly legit & this was the plan from the start, then it’s one of those times I have to ask, “why?”... Meaning imo this was a highly questionable decision from the get go.
Yeah, it’s possible, but seems a little bit of a stretch that a decision like that would be based on the huge market of people who would buy this with the intent of drastically changing it through customizing.

And isn't it easier to turn a 1 into a 4 instead of trying to remove 1 of the numbers?

I would think so... Which was part of my point. Not to mention, just covering/removing one of them doesn’t mean the other that’s left is actually where you want it.

I have to recommend him... Meaning, even if you have to put it on a credit card, you should this time.
He’s going to be $75-$90 on the afternarket. Add on a bit more for shipping.
He is a true leader figure, & even though Wheelie is a waste of plastic, Grimlock is totally worth it.

I hope we get a few photos of Slag soon!!!!

I also don't want to skip over SS74. He is a pretty neat figure! I like that the retooling was used for the chest/car mode for the movies, and i like the different color pallet, it makes him standout more from the initial release. I really like this mold, I am glad they went for another new one after the TLK/early SS one. They nailed this one.

Glad you were able to get ROTF Bee! That's my favorite SS deluxe. . . my favorite deluxe class figure in general, actually. I'm so glad they went with a more orange-ish yellow than SS-49, I hope a future SS DOTM Bumblebee has something similar.

After getting Hot Rod today, I decided to do something a bit different with my collection display:
Image
I got my DVD of the 1986 movie signed by both Peter Cullen and Frank Welker when they were guests at Liverpool Comic-Con last year, and seeing as we're getting lots of 86 movie themed toys I thought it would be a neat idea to add the DVD to the shelf display. I like how it looks, but I haven't decided if I should leave it as it is or add more figures to it. I was thinking about possibly getting Jazz and putting him to the left of Hot Rod, and either Earthrise Cliffjumper, the Wheelie that comes with Grimlock or the Daniel that will be with Slag to the right of Arcee. I also thought about putting Cyclonus on an elevated stand behind the DVD, but I usually don't mix factions on my Detolf shelves, and while I feel as if I should have more than one villain on there if I was going to, I really have no interest in buying Galvatron or Scourge.

I just finally got Scourge today. Very sharp figure. Well worth the purchase. I'm going to do a display similar to yours, except it'll be with my 20th anniversary DVD (also signed by most of the movie cast), and you can bet Cyclonus and Scourge will be a part of it, as will their minions. Only question is, would the previously released deluxe Cyclonus figures qualify as his "Armada."

Your Walmart is still selling Leaders? My local stores removed their tags and replaced them with tags for some other unrelated toy line like they did back in 2019. I haven't seen a Leader at Walmart since probably January before the reset. I got my Grimlock from Target. For that matter I haven't seen Voyagers at Walmart in quite some time either, last Voyager I saw there was that SS86 Hot Rod I bought on clearance in February.

Yeah I went in there last night and there were 7 SS leader Grimlocks on the shelf. They still have the spots for both the SS and WFC leaders. But yeah I haven't seen SS voyagers in Wallyworld in months. Got plenty of deluxes, though. What they do have voyagers of is Kingdom. 9 Dinobots to be exact. 9. With 1 Primal and 1 Inferno. On my end, it's Target that has been a wasteland for TFs. Nothing new since Christmas.

That sounds nice. The only thing I've seen of Kingdom wave 2 is Core class at both Walmart and Target. I've seen SS86 Deluxe at Walmart a few times, but the only Deluxes on the shelves as of yesterday morning was two Blurrs and some Cyberverse stuff. These days I'm getting most of my figures from Amazon and Target.com, Walmart (online and off) is too unreliable.

Yup. MP is still #1. The only way for it to be beaten is if they pull a MP Grimlock 2.0 that is somehow better.

My top 3 of "G1" Grimlocks: MP, SS, G1. ;)

What would make the mp better though :-?

Seeing that people have apparently had Slag in hand, I'm thinking it won't be long till he leaks. Though I am hoping that Hasbro has some Studio Series surprises that haven't leaked, just like Black Zarak

Rescaling and perfect cartoon accuracy. And it would only be "better" if it's not full of fragile bits à-la Hound, not overly complicated to transform.

As for the SS line, I'm looking forward completing all the Dinobots. Even if it take 2 years and the dinos crossing multiple lines. As long that they match with each other.

Not having screw holes on one side of the dino head is another point in the MP's favor. I like the color and plastic choices on the MP more. Has better accessories too.

Just if we compare MP VS Studio on a figure-only level. if / when all the other dinos come out it'll definitely have that over the MP. In a big way.

One thing for sure. All the dinos will come out as "mini Masterpiece" WAY before the dinos ever get complete in the MP line.

More wallet friendly too. ;)

That is my fear with them being spaced out. The PotP dinos were all within 2 waves and all matched. 6 months later they release red Swoop and he sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest. I just hope they stocked up on alot of grey plastic.

MP Grimlock's hands could also be improved, the part of the sword that plugs into the little hole on his hand broke off so only one hand can hold his weapons now
I wouldn't mind some extra articulation in his arms either
The knee ratchets on mine are a bit tight and stop in some slightly awkward spots, and the hips aren't as tight

Probably my biggest gripe is just that due to transformation if you pick hip up by grabbing his torso, the hips will extend because of transformation and his chest won't hold either. I wish it had a way to click into place so it didn't extend so easily

All that fixed would be pretty amazing. Or even just the last bit I mentioned and the hands. The rest was just nitpicking of course, I still really love my MP Grimlock

That is my fear with them being spaced out. The PotP dinos were all within 2 waves and all matched. 6 months later they release red Swoop and he sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest. I just hope they stocked up on alot of grey plastic.

That's what they did for ROTF Devastator and it was perfect.

I don't think they'll drop the ball over the beloved Dinobots.

why does red Swoop stick out? He's the way he's supposed to be, isn't he? Besides, the other Dinobots have more red on them than blue, so if anyone sticks out it's blue swoop.

I think if the other Dinos get done in current Generations leader size, where they're the same size as Grimlock, they will scale perfectly with the MP, since the MP is just a tad taller than the SS. Except Sludge, he should be bigger than Grimlock.

Hey Everyone!

So I have a relative at Hasbro (who I can't name) but they just showed me images of the next wave of Studio Series figures! I don't have the whole wave yet, but there's a few I know people have been waiting for!

This last one is a leader class figure, but I can't figure out who it is. . .

. . . I made that for the joke, but PLEASE Hasbro don't actually repaint Crowbar into Hatchet. I think a retool could maybe work, but after "Crankcase" I'm a little concerned xD

This, so much this.

It's a true kick in the balls that there will be 2 SS Leader G1 Dinobots before we even get a 2nd Live Action Dinobot, and there were only 4 of them and the first came out 3 years ago! We have a good voyager Scorn that just needs a movie accurate paint scheme like Grimlock, and then a voyager or leader Slug and a voyager Strafe to finish it.

This is why I'm glad I got Takara's Black Knight redecos for the AOE Dinobots (minus Grimlock) when I did.
