.... what if the leg transformation is the basis of a new Megatron?

It would be great because those G1 rubber hoses are mostly split in several parts. A heat-treated very tight coiled srping, but a soft spring, would fix that problem.

To me (at least) - this might point to a lack of other figures being on the horizon, or maybe its the fact the design team saved a lot of time with Combiner Wars through repaints\remolds ect, leaving more finance for Masterpiece design?

I'm betting it's just a temporary thing. I would expect the final release to be rubber.

At least, let's hope it will be a high quality rubber that don't dry out easely.
Also, why so many hope MP Shockwave not have lights and sound? Because the original G1 toy had it and it was great. Very loud and annoying, but great. The arm hose is also part of the electronics. That hand-gun should light pretty bright with a satysfying "PEW PEW PEW". Also, Shock wave should have another button to say phrases. His eye would flash in sinch with his voice. It would be awesome!
I'm also pretty sure they can incorporate electronics without messing the overall design.

I personally detest electronics. They tend to ruin what could be great figures.
That being said, G1 Shockwave did incorporate the electronics well.
BUT ... will it add cost to what will already be a expensive figure?

ROTF Leader Optimus Prime have electronics and is considered the defenitive Movie Optimus, and also, one of the best TF ever. It's also true that even in the early 1980's Shockwave's electronics were perfectly well implemented. If the designers are not drunk, they can do a great job with MP Shockwave.
As for incresed costs, it's a moot point. First, it will be a "leader" sized MP and those tend to be expensive from the start. Second, Shockwave don't need extra accessories. No need for detachable guns or trailers. This way, it could be even less expansive than the original MP Soundwave, who came with a cassette. Let's just hope it will have lights and sounds like the original G1 toy and no extra bits. This way, it could cost roughly 12000Y at the very most... or they'll say "fokkit" and gouge the price à-la MP-11 or Asia anything. No matter it's features.

If they ,TT puts voice clips, I'd rather not, 'cause the JP version is waaaaaay opposite in character akin to the JP Starscream sounding like more of a young full of bravado upstart that the geeky high pitch schemer we all love. Corey Burton's Sark is the one true voice for Shockwave.
And ...electronics will hampre his mobility.

I'm betting on 14 - 15000 yen.
Then with a 20% discount on preorder.
Hopefully the conversion rate doesn't get too terrible by then.

I'm not so sure that the electronics would hamper his mobility, but having said that I still don't want them. I guess an LED and gun sound wouldn't be horrible, but please, please no voice chip. You're dead on right with the difference in character, but if they have to do a voice chip, I'd rather they relegated it to a stand like previous MPs

Wouldn't surprise me if it's the miniature version of his alt-mode that the animator mistook for his gun once. And maybe one of his dome-head robots like MP-21 Exosuit?

Yeah but I think its more as an homage to the toy and I am perfectly fine with it:
Transformers G1 1985 Shockwave (Laserwave) Gallery
This really looks like this MP is more of a straight up redo of the toy in better proportions and better articulation. Thats what a lot of people had asked for.

Me too. I'm perfectly fine with it. ACTUALLY, now that I think about it, Shockwave was probably one of the most good looking G1 toys, so I'm happy to get an update for him.

Looking at the animation models Cyberpath posted, I see now that he did have a backpack, but that it was low enough on the body to not be that noticeable, hence my initial confusion.fenrir72 wrote:Sabrblade wrote:I wonder if/hope that backpack is detachable in robot mode. Only haters hate for the sake iirc when a blog took to denigrating the walking nuclear powered calculator. It's his monocular visage plus the backpack. Really seals the deal on him.
Btw guys, his ominous presence kind of reminds me of a DOM tropen, only the latter is bulkier.

It just detaches just like Prime's trailer. Parts formers are like Omega Supreme and Godbomber.
Though to early to tell, maybe the gun barrel functions like a mat, detaches and folds around the existing back pack or simply you just put it aside.
Posted by Emerje on September 27th, 2015 @ 3:23am CDT
I agree that the barrel is probably hidden in the backpack since it doesn't need to hold a sound box and the batteries can be hidden in the body. His gun hand probably wont be translucent since the eye is and they'd be gang molded, but will likely have an LED in the barrel.
[edit] Just noticed that his eye doesn't light up, it's light piped, the back of his head is clear to let the light through. I HATE light piping, it has no place in a Masterpiece figure where all of the other figures have painted eyes. I realize a flashing eye was his thing on the cartoon, but it's not like MP Wheeljack has flashing ears. So much for perfection.

I can't imagine they'd do a MP figure and have a part like that set aside. Reeks of laziness.
But I agree, it will become part of the backpack in some fashion. It could even make up the backpack entirely.
If there are lights and sounds, they may just go with the small button batteries rather than large AA batteries to save on space.
Or just ditch it all together, are lights and sounds really important in a Masterpiece figure?

But, if using MP as an example, the black pile divers of Lambor is , well kept in the box.

I dont understand, isnt his backpack the gun handle? Why are we thinking it will be the barrel?
And there wont be any sounds, just lights, and I do find those important in an MP like this one. MPs are supposed to be the be all end all versions of figures and since Shockwave was an 80s space gun, I would love it to have some lights for added fun and playability.

They were never there. Anyways, this guy is reported early 2016, I think we are looking at the final prorotypes and the next part is merely colouring. I dont think much will be changed from what Taktom has planned right now when they showed these.

Gaaah.. To lazy to edit.
The backpack is the back of the gun. The handle is the legs. IUf you ever find the G1 toy in the wild, being Sockwave or the black Shackwave, take it. It's engeneering on par with G1 Jetfire.

That then or make the barrel collapsible or wrap around to his back pack. The possibilities in my opinion is limited to 3.
1.Kibble
2.Wrap around the back pack
3.A mini torture/laboratory set (Shocky is a scientist, at least that's how his bio was fleshed out.
