While surfing around on Don Murphy's website looking for a publicity photo of him, I stumbled into a page on his site that really seemed to strike home to me. Hopefully, it'll strike home with the rest of the Transformers fan-base as well.

Don Murphy has a Want List on his website of items he's personally searching for. Some of it sounds like Memorobilia, some of it sounds like things that might be dear to him. Either way, with such a massive fanbase (many of whom are constantly hunting down various items to complete collections), it seems like there's got to be a few of us who know somebody who can help track some of this stuff down for him. Maybe one of your parents has a collection of old Los Angeles Times newspapers or maybe one of you works in a music store that still has records (there's plenty here in Chicago) ... if I don't ask, we'll never know.

I think Don Murphy has done a tremendous amount for our fandom since he became involved with the Transformers Movie and I think we should show him a round of thanks by seeing if we can help him out. Are you guys up for the challenge? I feel like we're going on a scavenger hunt of sorts.

So from one collector to another, let's see what we can do to help out Don Murphy. If you think you know someone or if you have a way to contribute somehow, please drop me a line using the contact form here or if you want to contact Don Murphy, you can send him a message on his message board. If you're a news moderator on another Transformers website, please feel free to repost all of this information on your website to see if we can collectively spread the word. If nothing else, at least we can bring some more attention to his "want list" to help him out however we can.

Let the "Don Murphy Scavenger Hunt" begin!

Here's Don Murphy's want list:

The following are all items that I would like to have, but cannot find for some reason.

If you have them and want to part with them, I can send cash, scripts, promotional things. Hookers and Gin. Whatever you want. You help me I can make you happy.

If you have anything here to part with email me details like what it is and what you want to MrDonMurphy@hotmail.com. And thanks for doing so.

  • Brooks and Jane LPs- there's one called LIVE AND OTHERWISE and one called THEN AND NOW. They used to play live in Venice California in the 70s. Nobody has this but if you do...

  • Los Angeles Times- The Main section in any condition as long as the front page is included. JUNE 18, 1952.

  • Los Angeles Times- Sunday Edition- August 17th, 1969. Must include Section B- Local News. In fact that's the only section I need if you have it.

  • Barnaby- regular sized paperbacks from Crockett Johnson reprinting comic strips. These books came from Ballantine in the 1980s. I think there are 6. Or 7. I have 1, 2 and 3.

  • The Zone Box. This was a little box about the size of a scotch tape dispenser. You hit it. It played the Twilight Zone theme song. You ordered it by mail through the Zone magazine like in 1984. I have one someone. Or not. Can I have yours?.

  • Doug Henning did a lot of Television Specials in the 1970s. The first Doug Henning's World of Magic show aired in December, 1975. I think there are 8 total. Please give generously. Note- this is not the Broadway show THE MAGIC SHOW which any retard could buy off Amazon.com and I did already. NOTE TWO- I have the first one on dvd- thanks Baxt!

  • Any Muscular Dystrophy Telethon copy hosted by Dennis James in the late 70s. Must have the "Look at us we're walking" section.

  • A video copy of Jack and the Beanstalk as performed by the Prince Street Players. Like ages ago.

So none of this stuff is gonna be easy to find. If it was I would have it already. Get it? Those video copies will be HELL to find. But I appreciate your hard work.

This is what YOU can do for ME!

We have received another update from the guys running Iacon One. This time they have announced that Bob Budiansky will be attending the event. Here is their offical update:

"MORE GUEST UPDATES
First, unfortunately, writer Simon Furman will not be able to attend Iacon One as planned, due to professional commitments. We wish Simon well and hope he will join us at a future event. However, in his place we have another exciting guest to announce...

For immediate release:

April 6, 2006

The Stasis Lock Group proudly announces comic book writer, editor and illustrator BOB BUDIANSKY as a guest at their inaugural show, Iacon One, celebrating the phenomenon of The Transformers, on July 7-8, 2006 at the Grand Wayne Convention Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Bob Budiansky turned his childhood fondness for reading comic books into a 20-year career in the comic book industry. During that time, Bob worked at Marvel Comics as an editor, illustrator, and writer. Although he worked on such titles as Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider and his own creation, Sleepwalker, Bob is perhaps best known for the work he did on The Transformers.

Bob was the editor on the very first Transfomers mini-series in 1984, followed by scripting most of the next 50-plus issues of the monthly Transformers comic book. In between, he named and fashioned character profiles of well over 100 Transformers. He developed story treatments as new lines of Transformers were introduced and occasionally, Bob penciled a Transformers comic book cover or two.

Although his involvement with the Transformers ended in 1989, Bob is somewhat amazed and even more amused that the work he did on the Transformers so many years ago is still kicking around in one form or another today.

These days, Bob spends most of his working hours as a graphic designer. And he still occasionally dabbles as a comic book writer and illustrator.

Although not directly related to Transformers or the Transformers movie currently being produced, an interview with world famous movie director/producer Steven Spielberg has popped up on the site of BusinessWeek Online.

The article addresses the recent purchase of Dreamworks SKG to Paramount, and not to Universal who many thought were the odds on favorites to buy the Spielberg/Katzenberg/Geffen company. A business deal that has inadvertedly effected the Transformers movie, making it now a Paramount production.

"I really don't know what happened. They were talking with David Geffen. But then GE decided they wouldn't bid. And Paramount just came in and swept us up and made us feel as if we were worth something. GE wasn't willing to match it".

"I may take some time off from directing because there is nothing ready for me to direct, no script that is where I want it. But I'm definitely going to be working for Paramount. I'm very interested in Transformers, a film, which we're going to release next year. I think that will be a great, great film".

We have received another update from the good folks running the Iacon One Convention. They have issued the following update:

"For immediate release:
April 5, 2006

The Stasis Lock Group proudly announces renowned voice-over artist VENUS TERZO as a guest at their inaugural show, Iacon One, celebrating the phenomenon of The Transformers, on July 7-8, 2006 at the Grand Wayne Convention Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Venus is best known to fans of the Transformers as the voice of the femme fatale, Blackarachnia, from the highly acclaimed CGI series, Beast Wars, and its sequel series, Beast Machines. Although providing numerous voices in the following years, including well-known characters such as the telepathic Jean Grey from X-Men and Agent Diane Zervas from Action Man, Venus’ body of work expanded well into the realms of television and film.

Venus’ feature film work includes American Boyfriends, Devotion, and Home Movie. She has also appeared in numerous movies of the week including Heaven's On Fire, Other Women's Children, Into The Arms Of Danger, Echo, Deadly Vow and The Man Who Used to be Me. She also appeared in the recent movies Painkiller Jane and Meltdown.

Venus was a series regular on Street Legal and had a recurring role on Madison. She guest starred on Viper, Poltergeist, Jack's Place, Mom P.I., Lonesome Dove, and Neon Rider. She has also played principal roles in The Sentinel, Sliders, Highlander, and The Beachcombers. In 1999, she won a Leo Award for Best Actress for her work on Da Vinci's Inquest and was nominated again in 2000. Venus was honored with a Gemini nomination for Best Actress in a Dramatic Series in 2002 for her portrayal of compassionate, resilient and tough homicide detective Angela Kosmo in Da Vinci's Inquest, a role she reprised in Da Vinci's City Hall.
