While surfing around on Don Murphy's website looking for a publicity photo of him, I stumbled into a page on his site that really seemed to strike home to me. Hopefully, it'll strike home with the rest of the Transformers fan-base as well.
Don Murphy has a Want List on his website of items he's personally searching for. Some of it sounds like Memorobilia, some of it sounds like things that might be dear to him. Either way, with such a massive fanbase (many of whom are constantly hunting down various items to complete collections), it seems like there's got to be a few of us who know somebody who can help track some of this stuff down for him. Maybe one of your parents has a collection of old Los Angeles Times newspapers or maybe one of you works in a music store that still has records (there's plenty here in Chicago) ... if I don't ask, we'll never know.
I think Don Murphy has done a tremendous amount for our fandom since he became involved with the Transformers Movie and I think we should show him a round of thanks by seeing if we can help him out. Are you guys up for the challenge? I feel like we're going on a scavenger hunt of sorts.
So from one collector to another, let's see what we can do to help out Don Murphy. If you think you know someone or if you have a way to contribute somehow, please drop me a line using the contact form here or if you want to contact Don Murphy, you can send him a message on his message board. If you're a news moderator on another Transformers website, please feel free to repost all of this information on your website to see if we can collectively spread the word. If nothing else, at least we can bring some more attention to his "want list" to help him out however we can.
Let the "Don Murphy Scavenger Hunt" begin!
Here's Don Murphy's want list:
If you have them and want to part with them, I can send cash, scripts, promotional things. Hookers and Gin. Whatever you want. You help me I can make you happy.
If you have anything here to part with email me details like what it is and what you want to MrDonMurphy@hotmail.com. And thanks for doing so.
- Brooks and Jane LPs- there's one called LIVE AND OTHERWISE and one called THEN AND NOW. They used to play live in Venice California in the 70s. Nobody has this but if you do...
- Los Angeles Times- The Main section in any condition as long as the front page is included. JUNE 18, 1952.
- Los Angeles Times- Sunday Edition- August 17th, 1969. Must include Section B- Local News. In fact that's the only section I need if you have it.
- Barnaby- regular sized paperbacks from Crockett Johnson reprinting comic strips. These books came from Ballantine in the 1980s. I think there are 6. Or 7. I have 1, 2 and 3.
- The Zone Box. This was a little box about the size of a scotch tape dispenser. You hit it. It played the Twilight Zone theme song. You ordered it by mail through the Zone magazine like in 1984. I have one someone. Or not. Can I have yours?.
- Doug Henning did a lot of Television Specials in the 1970s. The first Doug Henning's World of Magic show aired in December, 1975. I think there are 8 total. Please give generously. Note- this is not the Broadway show THE MAGIC SHOW which any retard could buy off Amazon.com and I did already. NOTE TWO- I have the first one on dvd- thanks Baxt!
- Any Muscular Dystrophy Telethon copy hosted by Dennis James in the late 70s. Must have the "Look at us we're walking" section.
- A video copy of Jack and the Beanstalk as performed by the Prince Street Players. Like ages ago.
So none of this stuff is gonna be easy to find. If it was I would have it already. Get it? Those video copies will be HELL to find. But I appreciate your hard work.
This is what YOU can do for ME!
