Seibertronian jON3.0 - whom you may also know as Jon Bailey, the EpicVoiceGuy and voice of Optimus Prime in Machinima's Combiner Wars series - recently sat down with DC Douglas (voice actor for Chase the Rescue Bot) to watch an episode of the Rescue Bots series and discuss the business of voice acting. The two watch one of Douglas' personal favorite episodes - I Have Heard the Robots Singing, which you too can watch along with (provided you have a copy of the episode) and listen to their running commentary on. Also present is a bit of talk about the business, how Douglas got involved, his inspirations for the character of Chase, some behind the scenes discussion (which Jon promises includes some great stories), and more!

Check out the embedded video below, and share your thoughts! Don't forget to go show DC Douglas some love for his work (he's on Facebook and Instagram at @mrdcdouglas, Twitter at @dc_douglas, and he has a Youtube channel too), and talk with jON3.0 about the experience on Youtube or right here on our very own Energon Pub forums!

According to online news source for the entertainment industry Deadline, we have another cast member joining Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr and more - with a dip back into the 1980s and the classic G1 Bumblebee Volkswagen design for at least this one prequel movie. Actor John Ortiz, recently seen in Kong: Skull Island, has been cast in a yet unknown role! Find out more about the news below, and let us know what your thoughts are on this movie so far.

EXCLUSIVE: Actor John Ortiz has landed two roles. He’ll first join Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena in Paramount’s Bumblebee, the first spinoff of the Transformers franchise. The pic, which will bow in theaters Dec. 21, 2018, has Travis Knight directing from a script by Christina Hodson.

It’s set in 1987, where Bumblebee, who is refuged in a junkyard, is discovered and revived by Charlie (Steinfeld) who, on the cusp of turning 18, is trying to find her place in the world. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Michael Bay, and Steven Spielberg are producing with Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis.

Continuing the build-up of its movie side-company, after the Allspark Animation trademark registration, Hasbro has appointed a new head of Allspark Studios according to Variety: Greg Mooradian. The news brings the consequence of a development of Hasbro's current deal with Paramount going forward too, but for now, read more about the appointment here and below!

Hasbro has hired seasoned veteran Greg Mooradian to oversee the company’s film division, Allspark Pictures, as it attempts to create a full-fledged movie studio. As president of Allspark, he will oversee film and television production starting in January. Sources say the company has been making an effort to raise money to start its own studio for some time, and is trying to attract funding in the nine-figure range in order to properly develop its own slate of films. The hope is to transform itself into an industry player to rival Marvel Studios.

[...]

Mooradian is currently a production executive at Fox 2000. It’s a homecoming of sorts for Mooradian, who previously worked at Paramount, helping guide “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” to the big screen, as well as Hasbro hits like “G.I. Joe” and “Transformers.” He left Paramount in 2013.

Fellow Seibertronian Stuartmaximus has found a youtube video from CineMovie which has Peter Cullen confirming that you will hear his voice in the upcoming Bumblebee Live Action film. He is short and to the point with his "yes" as you can see below.
We do not know if that means the film will begin in current times and be told as an older tale or if we will hear the voice through narration or even if Peter Cullen will be voicing Optimus Prime at all, though it is what everyone would assume.

Collider has posted a new interview with Transformers Legends Frank Welker and Peter Cullen, the longtime fan-favorite voices of Megatron and Optimus Prime! You can check out the full interview by following the above link, or read up on some snippets below, where the 2 legends talk about their ever evolving voice acting, the differences between providing voices for cartoons and movies, and more!

While most of their fans likely know the duo from their Transformers work, Cullen and Welker actually go back even further than that:

Peter Cullen: We go back to a cartoon series called Mighty Man and Yukk. [1979]

Frank Welker: Ah yes, yes, yes.

Cullen: And that’s when I first met Frank. But Frank had met me many, many times because he used to go to hockey games and I served hot dogs. [laughs]

Welker: I was a big fan of Peter’s. I used to watch him on the Sonny and Cher show when he did that little character up front. I did not know it was Peter at the time, but when I heard him doing that…

Cullen: The little man in the ball?

Welker: Yeah, the little man in the ball and those sound effects. I thought, whoever this is, I think I’m going to retire, he’s just too good.

.....

Obviously they’ve done both Transformers movies and TV shows. Here’s the biggest difference between those performances:

Cullen: One of the most obvious, for me, was when we did the cartoon series, we’d all be together in a small recording booth. It would be 8 to 10 characters staring into the glass with the director on the other side with the sound men. With the feature film, it was always working one-on-one with Michael Bay, the sound engineer, and a camera on your lips. So, yes, they were very, very different.

Welker: As Peter was saying, when you have a cast, you kind of play off each other. You can build … almost like a play, because obviously you read it as a play, so you have this nice interaction. When we did the series, standing next to Peter was always a benefit because you really get into it. You’re going hand-to-hand, but physically, you get the feeling of that person being there.

.....

With on-the-job hazards like that, you might wonder how Cullen and Welker have stayed healthy in this business for so long:

Welker: Early in my life, I probably abused my voice more than I should have. It is an instrument. You need to take care of yourself. If you have a session the next day, go to bed early, do vocal warm-ups on the way to the studio, that’s just about all you can do.

Cullen: My mom used to say, “Peter, don’t do this, you’re going to ruin your voice! It’s going to stay like that!” But when I was an acting student, I studied under an operatic coach named Bernard Diamant from New York. He described the basic instrument, as we all have, the human voice. I was particularly impressed with a remark that he made: A baby, when it’s born, has the most perfect vocal ability. Opera singers study to get back to that for years through the use of your diaphragm, the expansion of air in your chest and lungs, the use of tonal cavities that are built into your upper chest and your head.
