A closer look at some of Dinobot's CG scales reveals some lighting and shading applied to the little tiny scales that emulates the depths and shaping of each scale, which is a little more complex than simply having scale-based lines painted over his skin render. Otherwise, the light ought to be reflecting off each scale in a manner consistent with how light reflect off of smooth surfaces, instead of reflecting inconsistently across multiple bumps and pits of a non-uniform surface.shajaki wrote:.......Hmmmmmmm... Primal's and Cheetor's CG models were smooth-surfaced, so it's just Takara's usual fidelity to screen-accuracy.
Your point is good enough to quell me though. I can see it either way.
Looks like Mainframe put much greater detailed effort into designing and rendering Dinobot's (and Megatron's, for that matter) skin than they did for those of Primal and Cheetor. I guess since Jurassic Park was still big at the time, the dinosaurs got extra special treatment.

I have a shelf set up just for Masterpiece Beast Wars figures and to leave me hanging with only Primal and Cheetor would have been a tragedy.

Realistic fur is really hard to actually create in CGI, let alone to animate it. Studios have only just begun to master it, thanks in part of the computer's abilities, or lack thereof, to render a ridiculous amount of objects on a single model, let alone multiple. Plus, by comparison episodic series have a smaller budget per section than a feature length movie, which doesn't help.

Yeah, they made a big deal of showing hair off in Shrek 2 on Prince Charming.
If you watch the end of Beast Wars and then go watch the beginning you see a major change of quality. They got better stuff as the series went on. When I first saw the series I was just impressed that we got 3D transformers.
Oh, and Dinobot is just awesome. Fav char by far from Beast Wars. Definitely lovin' this masterpiece so far.

It's been a while since I watched the show so this only just clicked.

Yep, exciting is the right word! While LG Rattrap and Rhinox are pretty good stand-ins from a scale perspective, this will presumably be the first Dinobot anywhere close to the "correct" size and that's just amazing and kind of surreal.butcher31 wrote:I just realised how big he's going to be. I presume he'll be show accurate and scale well with the others, which means he'll be head and shoulders above Primal. That's super exciting.

What do y'all think is next - Tigatron retooling, Megatron, or another Primal repaint?
Posted by Sabrblade on October 25th, 2017 @ 8:31am CDT
Hopefully Megatron.ScottyP wrote:What do y'all think is next - Tigatron retooling, Megatron, or another Primal repaint?

But after that? I'll be surprised if Megatron isn't next.

He does? I can see Takara doing a Thrustor retool, maybe a toy deco version, but outside of that it'd have to be Grimlock or Fox Kids or some US toy-only deco that I can't imagine them touching. Would be happy to be way wrong about this, for the record!Kurona wrote:Always count on redecos happening first I honestly think the next thing we'll get is a Dinobot mold re-use. He's certainly got a lot to choose from..

Original toy, BWN Hardhead, the Season 3 Cyberraptors... they used this mold a lot.

As for your question Scotty, Megatron has to come soon. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tigatron soon, but they had better do a Megatron soon.

Oh man, actually, how many people are gonna buy two MP Dinobots because of the clone?

Come to think of it, this sort of schedule would imply MP Dinobot is coming out sometime next year, right? As are the POTP Dinobots, and any possible redecos of any of those. Year of the friggin' Dinosaurs and related creatures dude!

Well, if Dinobot ends up being MP-41 (remember that Primal fiasco with MP-31 going to an out of nowhere Delta Magnus and Primal going back to MP-32, I ain't gonna say for sure yet) he should come out around April or May, seeing as how Sunstreaker is December and Targetmaster Hot Rod is February, that would be my guess

While we still have very little news about the fan-favourite Predacon turned Maximal, Loopaza Mega Store on Facebook brings us a release date and a price - and you may not be happy about the latter. According to their source, we're looking at 28000 Yen (approx 245 USD at the time of writing), making it the priciest MP figure to date, due in July 2018. What do you make of this new information? Is it a turn-off? Let us know in the Energon Pub!
Takaratomy Transformers Next Masterpiece
We have a confirmation on the coming up Transformers Masterpiece MP-41 will be the expected Dinobot from Beast Wars. But there is surprising pricey on him as we have been told the Retail Price is 28,000 JPY!
Meanwhile, we are not sure how big Dinobot will be or just Takaratomy send out a wrong information on the price. If this is the final case, Dinobot will be the most expensive MP so far.
Price: 28,000 JPY
Release Date: July, 2018

It has to be an error.

We are waiting for other sources to confirm what the situation actually is, but that is currently the price reported by all retailers carrying the figure.

Unless Dinobot is as complex a figure as MP Megatron I can't see any justification for that price. If this is the new reality for Masterpiece figures, I'm out.

If he were a real Velociraptor, yes. But Dinobot is based on those from Jurassic Park, who are more similar to the taller Deinonychus. The real animal was still only about half human sized however. Coincidentally, Utahraptor was unveiled a few years prior, and was roughly the height of a standard human. Food for thought

But really though, that is an insane price. Surely he is not more complex than Megatron, and if he is, that is ridiculous.
