BotCon 2013 Coming to San Diego, California June 27th – June 30th!
Fort Worth, TX – December 7th, 2012 – Fun Publications, Inc., licensee for Hasbro’s official Transformers Collectors’ Convention, BotCon, announced today that next year’s award-winning convention will take place at the Town and Country Resort from June 27th thru June 30th in the beautiful city of San Diego. In the coming weeks, Pop Culture enthusiasts from around the world will be able to register for BotCon 2013 through the BotCon.com online registration system. Fans and Collectors’ who register for BotCon as a Primus package holder will receive the five-figure MACHINE WARS convention set, admission to the Friday private sales room experience, priority seating at all panels and seminars throughout the weekend and admittance to the Hall of Fame Celebration party. Finally, Primus package attendees will also receive a special bonus Transformers Deluxe figure to go along with their convention box set. General Admission for non-registered guests will be available on Saturday and Sunday only.

Earlier this morning, BotCon's Pete Sinclair took a few moments to answer some questions for all of us about the BotCon 2013 Machine Wars theme. Without further ado, here's our six question Q&A ...
1. Why Machine Wars?
Pete Sinclair wrote:Machine Wars is a very interesting line to those who were collecting back in the mid 90's. Hasbro had decided to completely revamp the Transformers brand with Beast Wars but then all of the sudden out of left field we get Machine Wars? We were going to get the best of BOTH worlds? How awesome was that. But then, as quick as they hit, they were gone. And while the Beast era is one of both mine and many fans favorite era's, there was always that what could have been for a "Machine Wars" story.
2. What was the inspiration for a Machine Wars theme?
Pete Sinclair wrote:The inspiration here is basically a "Machine Wars: Series 2." The 2013 BotCon offerings will work both as a stand alone AND as a continuation of the Machine Wars line. Once people read the fiction fans will see each toy from both series 1 and series 2 work as their own individual character.
Also, even if you did not grow up collecting Machine Wars, this set is going to be very appealing for many reasons and we anticipate that a wide range of collectors' will want to add these toys to their collections. They look really sharp!
3. Will you be using any of the existing 12 Machine Wars characters as one of the BotCon 2013 set or show exclusives or will you be expanding the Machine Wars character roster beyond the original 12?
Pete Sinclair wrote:This "Series 2" is not just a redux. Yes, there will be homage's to the original toys. But we take it a step further. Some characters will have NEW features/characteristics. Some that were basics will now be in a more appropriate voyager form. And yes, we have also added NEW characters to the Machine Wars line up. Ones that totally fit the MACHINE WARS concept i.e. these are WAR MACHINES!
Long story short, we approached this years offering as a true second series of Machine Wars toys.
4. BotCon's Machine Wars Optimus Prime's fictional appearances: faceplate or no faceplate?

5. The colors for Machine Wars Megaplex and Megatron were switched as toys (or the colors for their box artwork was reversed). Assuming these characters show up in BotCon's Machine Wars fiction, will Megatron by grey or blue and how about Megaplex?
Pete Sinclair wrote:There seems to be maybe two issues there. We have actually looked at that closely. We think that the colors were initially right but the dark blue of Megaplex became grey and the grey on Megatron became more of a teal. So the toys themselves are "right" in that regard. The Megaplex card art doesn't really look like either one so who knows what happened there.
Either way, we decided to base our deco's on "all" of the toy's we produced under the name they were sold as i.e. If we did do a Megaplex, he would look like the Megaplex sold at retail.
6. Have the location and dates for BotCon 2013 been determined? If so, can you tell us when we can expect to hear an announcement?

SLAGACON 2013 will be in the greater Cincinnati area! We have looked and planned for several months in order to make sure Slagacon 2013 is a great show! That is why we are holding it in the Greater Cincinnati Area. This area offers a wide variety of culture and attractions for everyone to enjoy! This area also offers great dining opportunities as well as shopping experiences second to none! We will have more information in the coming weeks about the hotel and convention space that will be used for Slagacon 2013
We've been quiet for a little while here at Auto Assembly. We've spent the last few months trying to recover from Auto Assembly 2012 and making plenty of plans for next year's convention, and taking a look back at some of the things we did this year so we can make 2013 the best convention we have ever organised.
Anyway, onto Auto Assembly 2013 and we have some fantastic things lined up for all of you. As you may know, back in August we confirmed our three voice actors who are joining us - Dan Gilvezan (G1 Bumblebee), Neil Kaplan (RiD Prime) and Steve Blum (TF: Prime Starscream), but since then we've been fairly quiet. Until now...
Over on our website, we've been busy making a lot of announcements about the convention and this is going to continue for the next few months with something new coming from us every few days!
One Day Passes
Until now, we have only been selling full weekend tickets for Auto Assembly 2013, but as of 22nd November 2012 we have now made one day passes available for the convention. However, these are limited so if you are interested, you'll need to book these sooner rather than later!
Guests
Starting things off are our guests. We deliberately held back on announcing our comic guests for 2013 so we still had guests to announce after our voice actors! Anyway, our first two confirmed comic guests are Simon Furman and James Roberts with more to come over the next few days.
Convention Exclusives
We've just unveiled the artwork for the first of our convention exclusive postcards for Auto Assembly 2013 and you can find this on our website. It's already been extremely well received and we'll be showing you the artwork for the rest of the cards over the coming months. That's not all though - we have more convention exclusive merchandise that we'll be announcing, starting tomorrow...
