Earlier today, I took a few extra measures to help protect myself in a world where it's us against the stupidity (or naivety) of others and cyber crime. In light of the extremely unfortunate and dire situation with Fun Publications' Transformers Collectors' Club, it is very important that all of you take some extra pre-cautions with your accounts online. In addition to our earlier suggestions that you cancel your current card numbers and change all of your account passwords that share the same password that you used at Transformers Collectors' Club, I wanted to inform all of you, as a community service type thing, so that all of you can help protect yourself online. If you don't use Paypal and if you also don't use Gmail or Google Apps, then this topic does NOT apply to you. If you do use Paypal, Gmail or Google Apps, then please continue reading.

Image

If you use Paypal, it's time to upgrade your account with this free feature that Paypal offers. It's called "Paypal Security Key". The PayPal Security Key creates random temporary security codes that help safeguard your PayPal account when you log in. It comes in 2 types, each with different advantages:

  • Security key: You carry this small credit-card sized device with you. It creates a unique security code on the go.
  • Mobile phone security key: You can sign up to get security codes sent by text message to your mobile phone. (recommended)

Image

If you use Gmail or Google Apps (this includes all Seibertron.com staff members with official Seibertron.com email addresses), you should enable Google's two-step authentication process for your account(s). 2-step verification drastically reduces the chances of having the personal information in your Google account stolen by someone else. Why? Because hackers would have to not only get your password and your username, they'd have to get a hold of your phone. For further information about Google's 2-step verification, please click here.

If you have any additional tips that you would like to share with the rest of the Seibertron.com community, please feel free to post your suggestions in this topic on our forums.

Here is another update from the Transformers Collectors' Club run by Fun Publications. Please read this information if you have been a member of the Club in the past few years or if you have ever used a credit card with their organization.

Transformers Collectors' Club wrote:As we continue to work on our systems, you will see some of our services go offline and then come back, so please be patient as we preserve data and clone servers and websites.

We are also taking this opportunity to remove all non-essential services from our ecomerce server. So in the short term in the next day or so, the club forums will be discontinued. It will be several days until we are ready to bring them back under an entierly new piece of software. I know alot of you have been asking for this so, we have decided to replace several of our systems with new packages. This means that you will not have access to the forum for a while at all. We do plan to make the old forum viewable (no posts) in the future.

Since we do not know exactly what data was taken, we are recommending that if your have used common logins or passwords with our system and any other system that your change your passwords in those systems immidiately (especially any financial sysstems)! We will be resetting all of the passwords in our system very soon. Please don't delay in changing your passwords in other locations.

In addition, we have found a few recent aticles concerning security issues with other vendors. If you use these services, these issues could possibly impact you. Please read the attached links:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/1 ... 68593.html?

http://www.greenpois0n.co/itunes-accoun ... redit.html

Thanks for your support in this difficult time. We will continue to work with our vendors to correct the issues and we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused any of our members.

If you have not cancelled your credit or debit cards that you have used in the past, you MUST cancel those numbers. It's a very simple process. You just need to call the phone number on the back of your card, explain what happened, and your bank or credit card company will send you a new card which you should received in 7 to 10 business days or sooner (I received one of mine in 4 business days). You MUST do this. It is inevitable that failure to do this will only result in your card being used for fraudulent purposes. Do NOT wait for you to get hit. The only way you can protect yourself is by cancelling your current card numbers and having new cards sent to you.

It is also strongly recommended that you immediately change your passwords if you use your password on TransformersClub.com on any other website or banking website. The passwords in their database are not encrypted and it should be assumed at this point that all of our account information was taken along with our payment information.

BotCon has officially confirmed David Kaye and Garry Chalk as special guest for this year's convention. The cat was let out the bag a little early when Kaye left a message on Chalk's facebook page that mentioned seeing him in Dallas in April.

Image

Garry and David will be on hand all weekend, taking part in fan panels, autograph sessions and the meet and greet for Golden Ticket holders. You won't want to miss meeting these two Transformers legends!

Gemini Award winning GARRY CHALK has been a professional actor for 33 years. He has appeared in over a hundred movies and television shows, among them Cold Squad (6 years), Stargate SG1 (several seasons), The Outer Limits (several guest appearances), and many others. He is most recently appearing in AMC'S monster hit The Killing, which has been renewed for another season. In addition, he recently filmed an episode of the TV series, Psych.

Born in Southampton England, Chalk came to Canada at a very early age and found that he enjoyed performing. His first television appearance was in an episode of Saturday Kids Party with Ron Morriere as a singer in a Kiwanis boys choir when he was 12 years old. Since then, he has appeared in many feature films like The Watchmen, Deck the Halls, The Fly II, Battle in Seattle, and Sea Wolfe with Charles Bronson.

His voice over work in animation spans 30 years and over a thousand episodes of cartoons. You can hear his work on Beast Wars (Optimus Primal), Transformers: Armada, Energon and Cybertron (Optimus Prime), My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (Fido the Diamond Dog), G.I. Joe, Sonic the Hedgehog, Reboot, and many, many more. Most recently, he starred as Sky Marshall Wade in the new hit series, Voltron Force.

Mr. Chalk continues to work in all areas of the entertainment world, from film, television, animation to theater.

For the past few years, Chalk has resumed his music career and performs at various venues in his hometown of Vancouver, Canada as a singer, guitarist, and piano player. But of all his creative pursuits, his greatest love is cartoons, and he says he will do voices in cartoons until the day he dies.

Garry thoroughly enjoys attending conventions and meeting the fans. He will often offer a musical performance at the conventions he attends, to the great pleasure of the attendees.

DAVID KAYE’S voice over career began with General Hawk in the DIC animation series, G.I. Joe in 1989. Working as an on air talent for radio station CKLG (LG73) quickly became less interesting as both on camera and behind the mic roles started taking up more time. Over the next decade and a half, David’s on camera burgeoned along with his voice career. On camera opportunities came in the form of guest roles on numerous TV series and movies such as the X-Files, Battlestar Galactica and Happy Gilmore with Adam Sandler.

Also during this time, David was being cast in some of the first, of what soon would be hundreds of, animation shows and video games. So many, in fact, this now became the main focus of his career and he’s never looked back.

David’s biggest moment was when he was cast as Megatron in 1996, in the hugely popular series Beast Wars (“Beasties” in Canada) that would go on to run for three seasons of “the most fun you could ever have!” says David. Thus began an almost twenty year relationship with the “Transformers” franchise, from his role as the “Decepticon” Megatron from the Armada series all the way up to 2007, when David “crossed over” to become the only actor in the history of the franchise to play the lead villain AND the lead hero when he was cast as Optimus Prime for Cartoon Network’s “Transformers: Animated.”

After twenty-plus years AWAY from the part that started it all, David found himself returning to the franchise where it all began… G.I. Joe! In the Renegades series, he could be heard as Scarlett’s father, and he also introduced every episode as the expo voice during the opening titles!

As the work keeps coming in, David’s voice can be heard in Insomniac’s “Ratchet & Clank” video game series as the loveable robot Clank. He's also been featured in “Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions? as “Mysterio,” “Nick Fury? and “Captain America” in “Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2,” “Missing Link? in “Monsters vs Aliens,” the game and many more.

David is now working on another highly popular series “Ben 10” as the lead villain, as well as working with the great JG Quintel on “Flap Jack” and “The Regular Show.”

With on-going commitments for movie trailers, network promos for ABC, Fox, CW and a host of radio and television affiliates and a lot of commercial work, the days get a little tight from time to time. So much so that he even has a unit that he can use to record from his car. “Don’t worry, I actually have to pull over,” he says.

The projects continue to line up and unfortunately, the days don’t get any longer. David says “You won’t ever hear me complain, though. I’m working with the coolest people on the planet and deeply love what I do… I have though put in a request in for a 28 hour day!”

Hello!

We wanted to give you the latest update on the current procedure for membership renewals and NEW memberships. As we continue to work to resolve the online store issues, we have put up a PDF that members can download and print out. These will need to be mailed in with a check or money order. We will process your membership as soon as they arrive. Just click the "Join Now" button on the main page at www.transformersclub.com.

Please note that the March 16th deadline is still a hard deadline (in house), so please make sure any mail is in the postal system by March 9th. If we could move the date we would, but that is not an option as these have to be processed due to existing schedules.

If you want to receive the free club exclusive Runamuck, your membership must be active as of March 16th. If your club expiration date is after March 16th you are good to go for this years figure.

Finally, please note. While we do not anticipate running out of Runamuck, the response to this years Free Membership figure has been amazing. We do not expect to have many extra's to sell through the club store. The best bet to ensure that you get this great figure is to sign up or renew today!

Thanks as always and we do apologize for any inconvenience!

Shattered Glass Drift quality control issues: response from Transformers Collectors's Club

Earlier this morning, I received an answer back from Pete at the Transformers Collectors' Club who clarified my questions about the "mix-up" with the gun/weapon accessories included with Shattered Glass Drift. Here's what he had to say:

This appears to be a running issue with the factory. Since the guns are not actually suppose to come with the Drift mold (at retail) it looks like many toys, if not all, just received whichever two guns were selected when they were packed out. I understand that it is a technicality, but all we said was he would come with two guns. While we would have thought they would have come with a left and right gun, the factory did not seem to think it was necessary, and these are how these were packed out...

So, to clarify, we are not changing how the toy was intended. The toy was intended to have two swords which can be stored in the doors and two additional guns included as additional accessories, and ones that were never meant to come with this mold.

All that said, after all the product is shipped out and all figure defects (missing arms, broken pieces on the figure) are addressed, we may be able to come back to this depending on how many issues are out there. The easiest solution may be for people to bring to BotCon and exchange there. Perhaps we designate a Drift gun swap at the info booth.

For now though, we can't take any exchanges...

Earlier this month, Seibertron.com was the first Transformers fansite to warn it's members to be on the look out for suspicious credit card activity after several Energon Pub and Staff members were hit with fraudulent charges shortly after placing orders for TFCC 2012 exclusives Over-Run and Shattered Glass Drift. After weeks of analysis Fun Publications, the parent company of TFCC, has determined there is a security issue with their e-commerce system. They have issued the following apology and statement/e-mail to all members:

Image

This is going out to all members:

Fun Publications wants to take this opportunity to apologize to all of our members.

After many days of analysis, Fun Publications has determined that there is a security issue with our e-commerce systems. We appreciate all of you who have sent in your details. Your help has allowed us to ferret out several different patterns of fraudulent charges that have appeared on some members' cards (any that have been used over the last year with both the club store and our event registration system).

We have several different internet/networking companies looking into the matter. Unfortunately, as of yet, we have not been able to identify any forcible entry either into our internet service provider's servers or network. This is like chasing a ghost through the wires, as unfortunately, the perpetrator did not leave a trail, foot prints or finger prints.

For those of you who have been affected, we apologize for all of your time this has wasted and any inconvenience it has caused you. We understand your frustration as this same type of fraud has happened to everyone in our office on our personal credit cards at some point in the past. Our merchant services provider wants us to remind everyone that even though this can be a huge annoyance for you, the customer, your issuing bank will not hold you responsible for any fraudulent charges that might be placed on your card(s).

We know that this issue has been a huge topic of discussion on all of the boards for the past few weeks. However, we are required to investigate to determine and confirm a security issue thoroughly before making any public statements. This is why we put out a general alert statement two weeks ago.

Until the analysis is finished (can take several weeks) we don't know if the shut down by our former (Jan 31st) e-commerce provider caused the security issue or not. We do know that it has not been limited to those who have purchased before the change to our new provider.

Please, watch your cards closely as this type of security issue appears to be on the increase across the net. No site is 100% safe. You may want to consider having any cards you have used with Fun Publications in the last year replaced.

At this time, we do not know how long our e-commerce site will be offline for both the store and registrations. We will get back to you once we have a solution for this security issue.

Thanks for your support - Brian

The Transformers Club Store is currently being upgraded. This shouldn't be an unusual event; after all online stores must make updates occasionally to reflect changes in market or technology. However what makes this event unique and interesting is the text that is seen if an item is attempted to be purchased:

Your security is important to us. We are busy upgrading the store for your safety and will be back up shortly.

This upgrade follows a rash of credit card thefts that have circumstantially linked to The Club following the rush to buy Over-Run and Shattered Glass Drift and their accompanying T-Shirts. Are the events related? As of yet The Club has yet to comment.

Keep an eye on SEIBERTRON.COM for any updates to this or any other story.
