Following our last article on in hand images of Studio Series 38 Voyager Class Optimus Prime (from the Bumblebee film), TonTon Reviews (who put up the in hand images), has come through on what they said and posted their review!

This review allows us to get the best look at the toy yet, as well as its surprisingly complex transformation. We see the ion blaster included stores between his legs in truck mode to fill in the gap and hold it togethyer. The backpack in robot mode also has 5mm (probably) holes to store the blaster.

TonTon also includes comparisons with Studio Series Deluxe Class 18 Bumblebee, the other Studio Series Optimus Primes, and more!

UPDATE:

While the video on Youtube was taken down, you can still watch the review on YOUKU at the following link: http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMzk5ODg4M ... 1d87631d68

The Bumblebee Movie Optimus Prime is really excellent. Its about what I imagined we should have got in 2007 with the original movie instead of the rather jumbled thing we did get. Cleaning up the design a little really helped the Bumblebee designs over all. :)

Well, that new SS Optimus have the arm panels like the Classic mold, but they are more subdued. I can see this as an involuntary hommage. I love how genius the transformation is. Is "complexily simple". The overall look is amazing and it have the most realistic truck mode ever for a flat-nosed Optimus.

This one will be a sure buy. :APPLAUSE:

Funny how we all thought he had a fake chest/windows yet there he is, actually using the truck mode's windows.... and he seems to have a good size as well, This is a sure buy.

This looks awesome. Nicely complex and a detailed but streamlined not mode. I also appreciate how much effort they put into having a realistic truck mode. Definitely a must-buy, this will be my first Studio Series purchase.

DAMN! I came to realise that there is absolunely no "fake" anything on this bot. No fake windows, no fake grill, no fake wheels either.

It IS a sure buy. :APPLAUSE:

What does that have to do with what he said?

It might not do fantastic but this isn't going to be a flop, especially with the lower budget of the movie

Talking poor of a design in a successful movie versus a design in a flopping movie. Hoping China will help is sad and futile. Aquaman got an extension there and the opening in China wasn't strong so.....flop.

He's talking about a toy, not the movie associated with the toy.

The Nitro Zeus figure was good despite being in the toyline for that movie so what does your point have to do with anything.

Movie doesn't need to do good for the toy to be good.

"Ah this Optimus toy is well articulated and designed but it's such a bad figure because the movie did bad"

What logic is that?

So, trying to keep this thread on topic, the vehicle mode for new prime is really bugging me, something to do with the proportions of the grill compared to the windows feels off; is that reflective of flat-faced trucks from the 80's? I think that would go a ways towards making me like this design more, cuz it's really putting me off

His saying of the 07 design being bad is obviously wrong as people enjoyed that design.

FYI The movie already made back its production cost and then some (As of Jan 4th $196.6M worldwide over a $135M budget), so it's not a flop in the slightest. There have been much worse.

You know what would be awesome? If it turned out Jetfire could combine with #38, imagine if that's who the chest piece came for... :-? Now this leaves AoE with no prime presentation in the Studio Series line, wonder how long that'll last.

while i doubt it, it would be cool.

I'm also super glad at how long the line has lasted and appears to be planned to last. It's pretty awesome to have so many new movie figures.

Honestly, I'd say the movie's profits are suffering mainly from series fatigue/apathy. Its a great movie but they beat the series, and the bumblebee character to death by TLK. As for the toys themselves, the 2007 optimus toys just weren't that great, regardless of how the movie sold or whether you liked the on screen design... though the voyager deco packed with bonecrusher would have made a decent movie ultra magnus if you replaced the head. This is definitely a superior toy, (although as if to spite us, it does have a faux window still, just this time its on the back of the vehicle mode XD)

Probably something to do with the toy not having been announced officially by Hasbro, only reason we know of this toy is due to leaks.

Words cannot express how BADLY I want this prime in my display. It along with VW Bumblebee is what I truly want out of a transformer, a culmination of generations of a characters story/s and different visual designs throughout the years all coming together in one figure. Other examples of this include RID 2015 Soundwave and WFC Siege Magnus.

I dont remember anyone saying that here. Instead our first instinct was that it was pulling some majic from the Siege Optimus transformation which does have real windows.
I was certain there were no fake parts going on due to how lean the toy is.

Also, its too bad it was taken down I didnt get to see the review :(

I'm still not sure whats up with the back window. I know its just there to give us something to look at when those parts arent filling the calves but it looks like its molded to resemble the front windshield?

So there is a bit of cheat. But this won't compare to HUGE details like an entire fake chest or absurd unpainted fake wheels like on TF Prime figures.

I'm still a bit confused on the robot mode size. I'm considering cancelling my pre-order for the new WFC Optimus if this "film" version is around the size of a voyager/leader. I already cancelled the Seige version of "Minor-Magnus", due to the tiny size and child-applied silver pen all over him. This seems to be a time when the film toys look more "CHUG" than the actual "CHUG" figures...

I'd actually like to see the Ice cream truck twins get a voyager mold I have/ had (I don't know where it is, I think it broke) the original deluxe figure and it's a bit small and fiddly, and as the Twins are deluxe class figures individually, logically their form with a combined vehicle mode should be voyager class, or some sort of standalone box set like the Jet Twins in the Animated line.
Also, when I previously asked why TFWiki haven't acknowledged the existence of the voyager Optimus from the Bumblebee movie, I was told it's because HasTak have yet to officially announce it. Well what the heck are the waiting for? We all know it exists, it's been reviewed, at this rate it's going to actually be available for purchase before they do! Yes I know I said this previously.

This is what I was arguing about earlier. And yes, that new "Movie" Optimus is even more "Chuggier" than the 2007 Cybertron repaints.

If you could have seen the video that was taken down, he compared the size with Evasion Optimus. He's about the same size as him. Maybe a few millimeters bigger overall but not by much. I guesstimate that he'll be as big as the Siege one.

That's because the design philosophy has changed with Siege wanting cartoon accurate robot modes and adhering to a G1 cartoon scale.

This cannot stressed enough: TFWiki does not and will never condone, support, or advocate the promotion of STOLEN toys/merchandise. That's how all these early leaks happen before Hasbro's official reveals. Thievery is not an acceptable medium through which new merchandise gets add to the Wiki.

Also, there's an upper limit to the mass of plastic that can be used in any given size class. This has been the case ever since size classes were formally created with the launch of Beast Wars and it isn't going away. Magnus having a Voyager-size cab robot leaves less mass for the trailer, which results in smaller armor. Doing his armor at its full size relative to a Voyager cab would require a Supreme-class toy.

I don't know man a Voyager mould might be too big. Given how they stand at about 8 feet their robot height should be about half the size of studio series bee and smaller than jazz.

I have yet to see the video, but everything is promising so far, I even like his size based on the thumbnail. Will definitely get him when I see him. ;)^

Edit: Watched the video and as if I needed more convincing at this point lol. The transformation looks nicely complicated if a little fiddly, but I like how the backpack ends up looking very clean. I was wondering how the front wheels would incorporate with the robot mode, and J am pleased with how they turned out. This figure is now a must have for me. :x ;)^ :APPLAUSE:

primalxconvoy wrote:I'm still a bit confused on the robot mode size.

Thanks. Which Evasion version; the old "deluxe" sized one, or the recent TT "Not OSKO" version?

The original voyager, of course.

I have Jetfire coming this week (I still can't find SS32 Prime for sale anywhere yet for some reason) and I have SS05 Prime but really that piece isn't for that older Prime at all (completely different chest and ab area), just SS32 but I'm not sure why as the only video I saw it swapped out for was in japanese or something so I couldn't understand the explanation if any.

Wasn't actually planning to get Jetfire yet as spent too much lately and was thinking about cutting down my Studio collection of non-essential characters since my enthusiasm for it all has been dampened with ss38 (still think that SS38 Prime looks like blocky junk. Absolutely hate the torso especially. Same old boring boxy G1 angles. No creativity or style at all. But it's also what it represents that pisses me off too. Damn G1 in my movieverse). But then I saw a review video and Jetfire looks bloody gorgeous for an old grandad bot so I have to see it in person and see if I like it and if I don't I can just sell it on. Been selling off what few G1 and G1-update TF figures I still had in the past couple weeks anyways so it's not hurting the bank balance too much at moment.

Looking forward to Jetfire, sideswipe and barricade. Couldn't give a rats about 38 ha.

Jetfire is beautiful. I honestly think its the best figure I own from the line. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
