Since I'm a nurse, my first thought tends towards the health of others. There has been an awful lot of information in the media, most of it generally stupid, and I wanted to put together something for everyone to ask questions, provide answers, and generally check in on each other during this unique time. I am also in grad school for my FNP (master's degree- Family Nurse Practitioner) and have access to more data and scholarly research than the average person, so I wanted to put myself out there for people who really want details. Any other health care professionals should sound off here and add any input. Props to all my brothers in sisters providing direct care in this situation.

ALso, do you have any stories about how CoVid has affected you? DO you need assistance or need someone to point you in the direction of things? We as a Transfan community can be there to support each other so this will be a place to do that. Transfans are a truly international community, so let's be there for each other!

I sincerely hope that everyone is doing well and staying safe. Jump in with questions, concerns, or stories! Til all are Germ-free! ;)^
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

I'm currently stuck at home with a sore throat for almost a week now. The government here declared some rules and guidelines last week: Minor symptoms, stay at home and sit it out, anyone with high fever or severe symptoms, call the doctor.
So i've been home, trying to stay busy and entertained, but feeling pretty useless and weird because a sore throat is all i have, i can do everything i normally would.

I'm thinking of calling the doctor today anyway, ask if i can get tested. That way i'll know if i'm infected or not, and hopefully get back to work in the latter case.

Mind you, i've reported in sick and we do get paid here in the Netherlands when we're ill, but it just feels so wrong to me, even though the HR lady told me i did the right thing.

Nope, not even a rise in temp above 37C.

I did call the doctor's office this morning. Told them what's going on, and they refused to test me, it's reserved for the seriously ill people. I was also ordered to stay inside. Apparently even a short grocery visit is not allowed if you've got even a single minor symptom.
Fortunately i've got enough food to last me a few weeks, unlike all those idiots who hamster toilet paper.

Heard from my mom that apparently they're working on a nation-wide test to see who's had corona, but it might take a while.

How old is the building you live in? Are you aware of any flooding or past water damage to it? Do you have any sinus drainage? When yo bLow your nose, what color is it? How has your fluid intake been?

My house is 1930's. there has been some leakage from the central heating boiler, at least twice, but no actual flooding.
I don't have a drippy nose and never blow it. I drink at least 2 litres a day, usually mugs of tea.

Sounds like a minor sinusitis. Drainage from the posterior sinus cavities would cause the sore throat. Another possibility could be snoring or low humidity levels in the room you sleep in.

Some additional info:
I have 2 colleagues sick at home, also with symptoms, who started feeling ill at almost the same time as i did.
Also, 2 weeks ago i hugged my mom and now both her and my grandma, who lives near her, are also stuck at home with symptoms.

Yeah, an URI or sinusitis. If there are no fevers, it's generally a bacterial infection of some type. That's the general rule...fevers are either viral or severe bacterial, and no fever is usually either allergen or localized bacterial.

Keeping my COPD, chronic smoker father company during the quarantine. Stocked up early and presumably we could go 3 weeks or more without needing to come up for air. If I didn't stay with him he'd just eat candy all day since he doesn't cook and doesn't mind his health very well, and he'd be running to McDonalds every day for the lockdown.

*sigh*

My wife just got an email from her Crocs job. They're closed for an uncertain amount of time, but she's guaranteed pay until upcoming pay day. Well, that email encouraged people to file for unemployment when pay day has passed, and they won't contest it.

Things are going swell here...

My wife just got an email from her Crocs job. They're closed for an uncertain amount of time, but she's guaranteed pay until upcoming pay day. Well, that email encouraged people to file for unemployment when pay day has passed, and they won't contest it.

Things are going swell here...

Good luck, man. I don't know how long this is going to go. TO be honest, based on the data I've seen I wouldn't have even shut things down. People say I'm crazy, until I tell them that the number of CoVid CASES to date from January 1 this year just finally caught and passed the number of influenza FATALITIES since January 1 (CoVid 41,300 cases, Influenza 34,000 deaths and 38 million cases).

Actually, people say I'm crazy anyways. Keep hoping, my friend. :HEADHURTS:
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

doing okay here so far. I'm asthmatic though, so I'll admit, I'm sweating this whole thing.

If you are under age 70, you're still in a low risk category.

Yeah, it might be minority opinion, but I think the government is overreacting a bit by shutting EVERYTHING down, besides basic essentials. I'm lucky my job is still up and running, and I hope it stays that way. I'll show up for work every day, regardless of the risk. I'll do the best I can to stay away from people (not difficult, since I'm an introvert and do that anyway) and pay extra attention to cleaning. But I think the total lockdown will end up doing more harm to the country as a whole. This should be handled on a state-by-state basis.

Luckily, in my town, we have very few cases. I work with 400 other people and so far only 1 has tested positive for the virus, and I myself wasn't around her or shared the same workspace with her for at least 3-4 weeks. And she got tested 3 times and the first 2 were negative, so we're suspicious that she was infected through the testing process and not at work.

Anyway, my opinion is that only places like Seattle and new York should be on total lockdown, because they're the ones with the largest number of cases. Here, all that's happening is the local economy getting damaged seriously because local politicians are panicking and getting caught up in the media-driven hysteria.

County lockdowns instead of statewide. The media are frothing over this because half the US cases are in New York and that's the media capital of the world. If it happening there it MUST be happening everywhere.

I appreciate your efforts to diagnose. Unfortunately that's not how it currently works here in my country. Under advice/orders from the government, everyone with minor symptoms such as low fever, coughing or sore throat, should stay inside until there's been no symptoms for 24 hours. They're only testing the seriously ill so i won't know for sure if i have it.
Apparently the symptoms of corona vary per individual, and they may not be in combination with eachother.

Currently i do feel better than last week. The pain is not a constant thing anymore, it's mostly present in the morning. Yesterday afternoon and evening i didn't feel pain, just an inflated sensation along my throat and neck. I'll take it as improvement.

I do hope this passes soon, i'm sick and tired of sitting at home, having to keep myself entertained. I feel sorry for all those people who have fallen seriously ill, hope they recover.

I am doing fine. My company is one of those deemed vital (fuel), so I am still working and have not had anything outside of allergy related that was upper respiratory (pollen season). It has cleared up. I work with a special projects department so my groups interaction with customers is minimal. I ahve been washing my hands regularly too.

Gas prices are lowest they have been in years due to people staying at home. And beer seals have been high since the alcohol in beer supposedly helps kill the virus. And I am not one to condone drinking oneself stupid to beat this thing. Water also helps wash the virus down into the stomach acid to kill it too.

Glad to hear you are feeling better, dude! I obviously am in an essential job, but I'm still finding myself bored sitting at home. Thamk God for Seibertron, online shopping, and Pornhub...

Update: new letter from my wife's job, guaranteed two more pay checks. On the flipside, county is now under "shelter in place". Or stay home unless it's necessary, like groceries, job, and walking the dog (not kidding on the last part!). Outdoor exercise is also allowed, I guess my mowing "job" isn't in jeopardy much...
The resident Rewind... well, half of one
