I do like that chest damage molding on Ironhide.
Posted by Till-all-R1 on June 12th, 2023 @ 9:48pm CDT
If the damaged sections were swap out panels I'd be more inclined to consider purchasing it, but being they're in permanent damage mode I'll have to pass. Now the wait for Hound to see how disappointing that turns one out as well.

Imo it's Hastak throwing in something that they hope people will find appealing enough to bite.
I don't want any TF figure(s) to flop, but I hope this is it for the "dead"-themed figures...
Ratchet and Brawn could be next, but damn, please no.

I had the same thought with damaged parts that could be completely removed...
Especially with a more screen-accurate Prowl, that could have been enough for me to get this set.
Like I said before, a SS86 Buzzworthy 2-pack was a perfect opportunity to get Sunstreaker and Hound released. The inner packaging backdrop could've been the back of the shuttle with the ramp deployed...
And with it being "ER" Hound's first (and possibly only) release, I would've been okay if Sunstreaker was literally just the ER version.
This was a missed opportunity on a few accounts.

Since it's SS86/BBB I would say it's already following that trend. Kup and Cliffjumper had no plastic.

But not to simply be flip, the color of the glass is exactly how it was in the movie.

Ironhide should be missing a head (at least) and have one "pleading" hand, not two fists. As mentioned before, Prowl needs effects parts and/or ports for his eyes and mouth...
I was joking with a friend, as to who would come next in this "dead" line. Wouldn't it be funny if this line marked the debut of Windcharger?
Who hasn't had a new figure since 2018.
Posted by DeathReviews on June 13th, 2023 @ 10:14am CDT
The combination of using weak plastic on critical transformation parts that require a lot of pressure and leverage when transforming was a horrible idea from an engineering perspective. Sure, let's make the support towers for this suspension bridge out of balsa wood and graham cracker, that sounds smart.
If they use more robust plastic for this Ironhide/Prowl, then the 'dead' versions could wind up being tougher and more long-wearing than the 'live' versions.
And how come only Optimus Prime's figure got the grey paint 'dead' makeover? If all cybertronians turn grey when they 'die', shouldn't all the dead figures get that color scheme? This kind of reaping detail is important to me, if nobody else... .

I get that these slight retools are fairly cheap and easy for Hasbro versus trying to create something all new, my question is are there really that many people who will buy anything and everything Transformers no matter the "version"? Personally I'm not into scene specific figures of any kind because it's severely limiting and I just don't have the space to dedicate to a "dead Bot shelf".
Add on top of this release is the fact that there are still a lot of people who still want regular Prowl from the Amazon 2pk, so my other question is how likely is that reissue now that they went with this version?

There are always more toys of the main G1 cast. Does this release make an Earthrise reissue less likely? Possibly. Will this be the last time we get a G1 Prowl for the next five years? For the next three? Almost certainly not. I know it sucks to not get a release marred by bad distribution, but on a long enough timeline--usually a handful of years rather than a decade--there's always going to be another figure.

Also I so really hope this is a new trend of no clear type plastic and having painted on windows. I would love to have those blast effects though.
Good point about switching the legs…
I hadn’t even thought about that.
I also wouldn’t mind having those blast effects, although I’d use them for other figures.
And, from what I can see in the photos on Pulse, it looks like the clear plastic parts have been replaced with solid plastic…. Obvsly not sure, but that’s how it looks to me.

Sadly, it looks like all the parts that have the yellow stripe on them are either part of the figure's main body or are connected to it via pins.Till-all-R1 wrote:Bringing up the switching of legs I was wondering how difficult it would be to totally switch out the from panel with the previous version, that way I'd have a normal Ironhide but now with the stripe.

Had the same thought, and I have zero experience customizing figures as well, but other than messing with those tiny pins (if necessary), I don’t think it would overly difficult.
And I’m not at all sold on this, but if it’s confirmed that all previous clear parts are now solid…
I would definitely start considering, especially with switching parts.

That's another great solution if you don't mind stickers, yeah. I usually share in the frustration when it comes to missing paint apps, and the stripes SHOULD have been there in the first place, but fortunately this issue is really easy to solve.

You're probably thinking of the Color Changers, Aquaspeeders or Stormtroopers, which have "battle damage" by spraying them with warm water. Either those, or the Jurassic Park dinos with either removable skin or flipflop panels.

The battle armor He-Man and Skeletor are unbeatable for such a feature.

Don’t remember Transformers ever doing that, however, Hot Wheels did have a line of crash damage cars called Crack-Ups. I had a couple of those as a kid. It was a spring loaded panel that would rotate when enough force was applied to disengage the soft rubbery section that held it in place.

I know they aren't known for having that damage, but SG Ironhide and Prowl having damaged windshields/hoods would actually match SG Optimus nicely.

Probably because it's a new mold and they could incorporate the damage into the mold in advance rather than make new parts molds like with Prowl.

I just love everything about this set. and the potential commentary behind it.
I have preordered the set. I didn't get Prowl (Siege was better), and I sold my Ironhide (it Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked), but for damaged versions with dying effects, I'll do it. Plus the price is pretty decent.
I will now hold off on Ratchet and Brawn until their 2-pack comes out next year to complete the shuttle scene. Not that I was going to get Brawn anyways, and I am still unsure on Ratchet.

Considering basically all the paint on the first SS86 Ironhide is being used to paint giant chunks of clear plastic red, I'm assuming the fact that his figure has zero clear plastic to paint freed things up a bit.Rodimus Prime wrote:I wonder why this Ironhide has the stripe and the actual SS86 figure doesn't.

Overall, Hastak has done a pretty good job with the figures in this subline…
I was a bit letdown by Brawn, but that seems like a rare exception.
Could I see this being a bit of a stretch for Leader class?
Sure.
But I’m betting it goes well beyond a regular Voyager class release.
I also wouldn’t doubt if this new version is as tall as Wreck-gar.

Same, bot scale and cartoon accuracy is king for me. I'll buy anything that's fun regardless, but I'm always going to aim for figures that look "right" together. Titans Return Brawn is a good figure, but doesn't fit the scale.
