Fangry is an homage to one of the old school Headmaster Juniors. It's a fun figure in its two beast modes, but the weapon mode falls a little short. If you're looking to complete the extended Headmaster line, this is a must.
Overboard is the third use of the Crashbash mold and a homage to the old cassette Overkill. Unlike Clobber, Overboard is a straight repaint of Crashbash, which I really don't mind. This is an easy pass in this wave.
Ptero is Swoop, lets get that out of the way first. Ptero is also a pretty nifty little Titan Master, with probably the most interesting weapon mode. Funny enough, I've been told the vehicle mode looks a bit like Thanos' throne, so hey, crossover!

Yes, but I believe it is just the Deluxes, right? My Legends and Voyager Wave 3 are all still showing yet to be delivered. I went ahead and shipped my POL< so I'd have stuff to fiddle with over Thanksgiving. Big haul too...
I preordered some stuff including deluxes and haven't received a notification yet.

I know I preordered my stuff super fast after they went up, so I think they got in partial stock. I got me and my friend's Hot Rod in, along with my Triggerhappy. I'm considering whether to wait for Megatron and a Super Saiyan Vegeta figure to come in before I ship them out or not.

Or they'll slap the faction name in front of whatever they feel like using. See: "Autobot Jazz", or "Decepticon Scrapper".Emerje wrote:Sabrblade wrote:What about by 2012 when Fun Pub ended up using the "Gigatron" name instead of "Overlord" for that year's BotCon toy?Emerje wrote:So it seems more likely that Hasbro simply doesn't want the character to be called Overlord, at least in the past, we'll see what they do when the new figure comes out.

If Hasbro themselves isn't going to use the name on a Transformers character then it's hard to believe they'd let someone else. But I don't know if they still own the name or not, it's been 10 years since we've last seen it used by Hasbro for a figure after all.

Now, if this really is the case for the Gigatron-named Overlord toys, despite Hasbro having the "Overlord" Trademark for the G.I. Joe character, it really begs the question for why the name could be Trademarked for the G.I. Joe brand but not for the Transformers brand. Like, is there some other company using the "Overlord" name for a toy robot character of their own?

yeah doesn't make sense also why do we have the name Bumble bee in transformers and also bumble bee in DC comics from Teen Titans they both cant have trademarks

According to the Wiki's Trademark article, Hasbro eventually gave up trying to register a Trademark for the name "Bumblebee" and, in 2006, went with using the name as "a 'normal', non-registered trademark instead." I don't know if this is still the case to this day, though.Ultra Markus wrote:Sabrblade wrote:All I know is that back when I first asked around the fandom about why BotCon 2012 Gigatron didn't use the "Overlord" name, everyone who seemed to know what they were talking about said it was because they couldn't Trademark the "Overlord" name, and cited the Heroes of Cybertron Gigatron toy as being the same case.

I don't know if it really works like that. I couldn't find Hasbro's Overlord trademark (live or dead), though I did find a dead trademark for Overlord from Cap Toys from 1994 to 1996. I did notice on the Shockblast trademark that they cover all their bases by saying the name is for "toy action figures, toy vehicles and toy robots convertible into other visual toy forms". They use the same wording for their ROM trademark and several others. Maybe the old Overlord trademark wasn't that broad? The Scarlett trademark only says "toy action figures".
BTW, Hasbro was able to once again renew their original 1983 (yep) trademark for Bumblebee last year. Not sure what Mattel's trademark says to let them make figures and dolls of the comic character.

The tank was called the Gigatank and the jet was called the Megajet. Neither vehicle was alive either. The tank's Godmaster operator was a man called Giga, and the jet's Godmaster was Giga's wife Mega. Mega and Giga were the heart and soul of Overlord, with Giga speaking through the combined robot form as Overlord's main personality.
Behold this video:
Yes I was vaguely aware of that - at least as much as one can be while not actually having any desire to watch the TV show.
I was addressing it more as a practical concern with the name Megatron not being usable while Gigatron is obviously than suggesting that the female was driving the tank (especially since Western Overlord doesn't work like that anyway). The Woolworths version describes the two powermasters as "Energon" companions and it's implied they just act as a power source for the weapons or to enhance the vehicles. leaving Overlord as a normal Decepticon - which frankly I'm more comfortable with than the whole Japanese method of handling this stuff.

Anyway, this looks to be the exact same blue and gray test mold we saw back at Cybertron Con.

Sure is, it's an exclusive redeco of the Dia-Battles remake that's been in the TF News a few times.

Because it's a misspelling.
Somewhere in the process someone saw diaclone and didnt properly see the space between the "cl" turning it into "d".

Anyway, lets look at pics of the 3 modes first:
As is obvious to anybody with a familiarity of G1 characters, these are quite obviously repaints of soon to come Blitzwing and Octane figures. While I am no fan of repaints, these two aren't that bad. Prime is actually a very nice homage to his G2 Laser Prime self, and Megatron kinda gives an IDW feel. As I've sais before, these will be excellent figures of the triple changers they are supposed to be.
Prime is actually a very simple figure. The transformation is very basic, and lots of truck kibble shows in plane mode. The truck modes hides the plane parts alright, but looks extremely simple. In robot mode, the wings really stand out on his back:
Not a ton of range of movement for either figure, but this one feels very limited. It also feels cheap. I can't fully explain this, other than it feels very light, and the plastic just feels cheap. I would fear to give this toy to an actual child as it would probably break within a day. Prime looks nice, but is a rather disappointing figure.
Megatron is quite different. This transformation is very satisfying, and very reminiscent of the original G1 Blitzwing figure. While the plastic still feels cheap, Megs feels much more solid than Prime. It would probably take a child 3 days to break it, although the joints are very thin. Megatron is also very much on the loose side. While nowhere near as floppy as Skullcruncher, Megatron will flop over easy, and his arms don't like to stay up. He also doesn't tab in well in jet mode:
You can see on the left side there, that the tread piece does not sit as flush to the body as the same piece on the right side. The tabs simply don't measure up right (tab is smaller than the hole), so it won't hold to the body.
The tank modes holds together very well. The grey color feels off, but its easy to get over.
One thing I'm very happy with on both figures is the ability to hide the shoulder columns. I like the heads as is, with out the side pieces limiting movement. Here are the shots of that:
With:
...and without:
Of course, as with all Hasbro figures, these two suffer from a criminal lack of paint apps. Prime in particular could have really benefitted from some paint apps in truck mode. Then there are the stickers. I really hope this does not become a thing. These are cheap, and the edges were already starting to come up out of the box. These will defiantly not last over time. I don't know what Hasbro was thinking.
In the end, while I kinda do like these figures, I can't recommend them at full price. If you can find them on sale, go for it. Otherwise, wait for Blitzwing and Octane.

Maybe, but it's hard to believe they'd make such a mistake on a line that's so well known in Asia.
Diadone is an actual surname that people can have, but more so if you parse is properly as diad-one with diad/dyad meaning pair it could be read as two-in-one which basically describes most Transformers. There were some Diaclone figures that were called Twin Combat that had two robot modes. Seems like something Takara Tomy would make. I doubt it'd be anything we'd recognize fro Transformers, though.
Of course it's all wild speculation, they could be Jenny dolls for all we know.

Never did want that Optimus, I like the Classics Voyager a lot more. I really don't like any of his modes and like the review says, he just looks cheap. I can't describe him more than that, he just looks unappealing. I don't know much about Octane, but I'll probably skip this mold altogether unless his plastics and paint blow me out of the water. I'll probably get Blitzwing though, skipped that awful Generations one with zero regrets.
On another note, my Hot Rod and Triggerhappy preorders came in yesterday! I shipped them and they should get here in time for me to open right before Thanksgiving or after my late shift on Black Friday. Just got a job at the Lego Store though, so it could be a lot worse.

Ever since I first laid eyes on the initial images of this version of Megatron, my first thought was that it felt quite rushed, and virtually every review since then has reinforced that notion to an almost certainty. The shoddy stickers, the poor tab connections, the almost total lack of paint apps (even for a Hasbro figure); everything just screams rush job. I seriously hope all of the QC issues are fixed for the Blitzwing release.
