Sawback is an homage to a Japanese only Headmaster figure, that transformed from a Lion to a head. This is really cool and the end result is a fantastic look Titan Master. Shield mode is a little odd, but Lion and hover mode is great.

Sawback really doesn't want to give up being the mane, does he?

That sounds like a great idea.
I agree, but the names will pose a problem. "Overlord" has been used for Europe and Japan, but the US uses "Powermaster Gigatron" (HoC PVC Figurine) or just "Gigatron" (BotCon 2012) instead, suggesting "Overlord" can't be acquired as a trademark.

Easy but stupid sounding fix: One Titanmaster is named "Over", and the other is named "Lord". Though it doesn't matter to me what they call him. I'll call him Overlord like how I call Fellbat, Dezaras, and Ironbison by their respective names. It's my figures, I can call them what I want. Except for Twinferno. When I get him (hopefully), he's keeping his name because it is awesome. Sorry, typo there. I meant to say: TWINFERNO

Too short and generic Though if Hasbro did manage to get "Overlord" trademark, we can get "Gigatron" and "Megabolt" for the Titan Masters.
You know, I think that's the reason why the female Mega was the template and not the male Giga. "Megabolt & Powermaster Gigatron", how would that sound?

The rare instance in which a replacement name is cooler than the original!

Well in my opinion, Doublecross is a cool name. Not for this character though, but still a cool name.

Though, keep in mind that this is merely a suggestion for a substitute Trademark label for his toy. The fiction can go on calling him "Overlord", much like how Black Shadow keeps his name in the fiction while his Hasbro toys use the substitute Trademark label of "Sky Shadow".

so with these titan masters why do they need to be just headmasters i mean the concept of a "master" should include target and power masters too, right? it would give more diversity among the masters figures instead of all of them looking the same, dont get me wrong i like all the headmasters too and all these figures coming out look amazing i just thought it would be nice to have the other masters too

I would imagine that those who have tried and failed to Trademark the name "Overlord" in the past, having had to use the "Gigatron" name instead (Fun Pub, for instance, with their Botcon 2012 Gigatron and 2014 Kreon Gigatron figures), would have likely already tried and failed to Trademark the name "Decepticon Overlord".Kurona wrote:Or, y'know... I kinda suspect they'd try and call him something more similar to Overlord. Or maybe even just Powermaster Gigatron.

How did you just read an entire conversation about how toys of him in the US have been called Gigatron and not realize that?

I checked my weirdwolf, and he does need his titan head turned 180. But it doesn't click in, it just sorta slides in. It isn't loose but it's easy to slide out. He doesn't fit in at all if put in with his titan head the proper way around. Don't know if the hasbro one is different.

Same here, one way just slides in and out as if there is nothing keeping it in while the other (regular way) sticks well. This is for the Hasbro one. However, one thing I noticed is that it will snap in at an angle, meaning that my wolfwire head becomes slightly tilted to one side.

It looks a bit dinky and pathetic on it's own; but with the Titan Master gun attached the shape and size becomes almost perfect... but the Titan Master gun is a completely different colour meaning this is worthless.
But then I realised, this in mind - would anyone be able to create a Fusion Cannon rear as a replacement for the Titan Master gun on Shapeways? That seems pretty ideal to me.
Heck maybe even a full Fusion Cannon. Though I do prefer having two pieces that combine considering the Fusion Cannon piece already there becomes the tank barrel.

I still have very serious doubts Takara's gonna do it and I don't get why people think they will when every piece of precedence - no Leader Seekers, no Sentinel Prime, not even any Gears or Windcharger - suggests otherwise. I mean if they do it, great! Awesome! But I really don't think they will, and if they will, likely just as a really expensive exclusive.

A lot more things were exclusive to the leader seekers. Their current modus operandi seems to be that they only re-use molds for characters if those characters also shared molds/body types in the past - Starscream/Thundercracker, Optimus/Nemesis etc - or if it's something much more major like Scourge and Highbrow. Megatron is not a major retool from Blitzwing and they never shared a body type/mold in the past.
Takara doesn't really care for re-using molds as much as Hasbro. ... unless it's Unite Warriors, which is a rather bizarre parallel to everything else they do.
And if they care that much about the head? It's friggin' Megatron. They could package him with a random Legend if they wanted to.

Dubious sentiments aside - why not wait and see what the Takara one is like or Blitzwing that might have the part you want in the colour you need.

Transformers Cloud was... a bizarre line and not really comparable. Especially considering the much higher prices charged; it's more comparable to Timelines than a main line.
I don't see why they wouldn't have done the seekers. What's stupid about them?

Because Takara is highly likely not going to do him - and even if they did I'm not paying the high import prices just for that one part - and I'm not interested in Blitzwing.

The is 0 relation. Transformers Cloud was kinda like Club figures in the US, redecos of existing figures to give them new identities, sold exclusively and for very high prices and covering things that are not available at Hasbro (like a voyager starscream, shockwave and rodimus).
Takara might release this Megatron but they also might not. Judging from the past, I think they wont. Takara releases less product than Hasbro and arent so redeco crazy. Megatron and Optimus here are just the the redecos of other figures releases earlier. But there is nothing wrong with waiting, by the time we realize they wont be releasing him these 2 voyagers will probably be available for cheap (or sold out and impossible to find, take your pick)
About these voyager triple changers, I have all the ones from the first 2 waves, my favourite is Astrotrain. He just looks awesome in Robot mode and the headmaster gimick takes nothing away (unlike Galvatron). Plus the conversion is smart, simple and fun and regardless of how different the alt modes are from his convetional alt modes, at least they look like alt modes and not him stuck mid conversion.
I like Trion's robot mode, but the rest isn't great, especially with hasbro's colour scheme. I dont think any of these will end up on my "best triple changers" list.

Sawback (henceforth Lione) is fun, though also obviously a pretooling for Steeljaw. Has the weirdest vehicle and weapon modes of the bunch.
Ptero (Swoop) is well executed. The robot eye paint on mine isn't fantastic. Vehicle mode is pretty neat, and the Titan Master himself is toy Swoop as opposed to cartoon Swoop face like the robot head mode.
Fangry is the standout. Titan Master has this Black Knight/WW The Fallen thing going on. I think the robot head mode is meant for Crankcase, it's almost a dead ringer to Milne's design for him (were his head in one piece in that universe!) He has essentially two beast modes: Fangry mode, and a dragon mode that the Titan Master can ride. I want it repainted into Dragoyell so badly.
Great wave. This line keeps knocking it out of the park with fun factor. Don't skip it when you see it!

I'm guessing you two aren't as familiar with G.I. Joes as you are Transformers?
Hasbro did have the name Overlord in the US for G.I. Joe in 1990 and just like other shared names like Shockwave, Scoop, and Mainframe they could have used it for a Transformer as well if they wanted to.
If they used the name Gigatron in 2002 then it's because they wanted to since Hasbro still had the name Overlord at least through 2006 when Fun Pub made a new figure for GIJoeCon.
So it seems more likely that Hasbro simply doesn't want the character to be called Overlord, at least in the past, we'll see what they do when the new figure comes out.
