Then I open the figure and he is generally really loose in the legs. All the gimmicks in Dino mode are atrocious and he just doesn't feel solid in hand at all. I'm disappointed with the mold as this is my first experience opening one.
To top it all off I was messing with his pitiful excuse for accessories and his inability to properly hold them sans closed fist or that tiny tiny tiny little spur like stem of gun and sword that allow him to hold weapons in non light up gimmick had. I ever so carefully tried to place the gun in hand (my hands are super loose and only lock in when when you push them passed where they are supposed to be. The little spur on my gun broke off inside the hand. I'm PISSED . I tried to drill it out but the only bit I had was just slightly larger than the original hole. Now neither weapon can be held. If anyone out there knows of some good 3rd party weapons that might actually fit in Grimlock's mediocre excuse for hands please let me know!!
I'm very disappointed overall and wish I would have just put my money down on an MP Ultra Magnus. I watched several reviews of the figure and mine was above and beyond a dud in all aspects.
This is the WORST Masterpiece figure in the line thus far that I've purchased . On second thought I'll just put the weapons and crown away and forget they exist. This is a figure that cannot be handled and just seems to need to lay there like a lump on a shelf...such a shame. I will put him in Dino mode and display him behind my AOE Dinobots.

I would love to buy this Grimlock Masterpiece, however I couldn't find it by the time I went to Toys R Us website, then I searched on eBay and I think it is overpriced... does any of you guys have one new Grimlock Masterpiece for sale that I can buy through eBay? So far I have 100% positive feedback as buyer (I am not a seller!) and I always tend to pay right away. If there's anybody interested please let me know!.
Thanks so much guys!

have you checked TRU TS yet? I've not had time to check if they have any and haven't seen any reports of it showing up there yet.
I will go check today if I can get out of work early enough.

Might have to try that out. The joints on mine aren't super loose, but they're loose nonetheless.

From what the reviewer said the $150 knock off is of better quality than this monumental P.O.S!! A bargain at $79.99? Pathetic. I got an additional 20% off my online purchase so it was $69.00 and not worth it. Paying $59.00 for this is not worth it. Just my opinion as a long time collector.

Wolfman Jake wrote:My order just arrived from TRU.com today. Masterpiece Grimlock came without the blaster or the crown! When I called to ask for a replacement, they told me that it was all sold out and no longer in their inventory. Way to go, TRU. Ever heard of putting aside customer service stock for returns and exchanges? No stores here have it in stock, so I can't do an in-store exchange either.
Update: Found another Masterpiece Grimlock at TRU while looking for the Evolution 2-Pack of Slug (which I also found at last). I was able to swap my defective piece from TRU.com for the one in the store. I must say, I like it quite a bit. It's a nice display piece. Not so much a great toy, but as far as G1 looks, it can't be beat, and, to me, it scales nicely with the newer Masterpieces, like MP-10 Optimus Prime.

Seems like a lot of trouble, but I'd rather be content with the decent box I got than risk getting a smashed up or otherwise abused one from the website.

Oh yessss! I've ordered mine in the nick of time then! I had to close an account for an US address, because they don't ship to Europe!
I already owned Takara's MP-08 but now I can have him in both in Robot as in Dino mode!

So that means that TRU doesnt necessarily sell it for the price online?

Depends on your area I think. In NY I believe it retails for $93?

The figure is crap!! I agree and cannot see why so many are selling. The figure is not worth $79.99 let alone what the scalpers are charging. NOTHING on mine ordered from TRU.com worked correctly...I was afraid to even change the eye color after the gun to mine broke off in Grimlock's hand hole. I took mine back as defective to my local TRU and now have another MISB (none of the gimmicks worked on mine as figure was super loose...not that the gimmicks are worth a damn anyway). I really do not plan on even opening it...probably just display in box. This figure is a complete disappointment to the nth degree!
I wish Hasbro would have gutted this thing of gimmicks and just gave us a figure that would properly lock in robot form so that it could be handled and displayed. I could give a crap if the head and tail move or the gun/sword light up.

Yeah, I was gonna say the (horrible) problems you have experienced are not linked to the figure itself, but I guess a bad batch or QC problems with this particular release. I have the original Takara release and everything is fine. If you're not scared of it breaking he's actually really fun
He never felt worth the Takara prices though, I'll admit

The answer is now. If he is not in stores, then the store will probably not be getting that much more soon and you are better off getting him online (he is cheaper there too in some cases). The same thing happened with MP10 and Soundwave. They had a very short time on the shelves. I would recomend getting him online while he is still available.

dude the reason why its selling is that even if the toy doesnt work well compared to prior releases, the mold is spectacular to look at and the character is hella popular.
I would have bought this figure for 99.99 in canada toysrus because the going rate that time online was 199.99.

Ditto, mine is fine. It has one really tight knee joint but that's easy to take care of with a screw driver. Some of the chrome finish can be a little better but it's really a non-issue over all. Sorry you got the short end of the stick reluctantyouth but it's still a great figure with a good price.

He is my very firt masterpiece and I was very excited to get him. The figure is certainly not crap but his legs are too loose and too tight at certain parts making him hard to keep in certain poses and a bit tough for the alt mode tail to transform. Those are 2 flaws that are hard to ignore.
But its still a fine toy; it looks great (especially in Dino mode) and the light gimicks work fine. The other gimmicks dont but they dont hinder the figure much either. While I agree that paying over 100$ is nuts for this mold in any release when thinking of its flaws, I think most masterpiece prices are nuts when you compare it to the 20$ price of the Alternators when they came out and the 50-60$ price tag for very detailed Leader figures we have had in the past like Movie Leader Sentinel Prime, ROTF Optimus and HFTD Starscream.
I mean seriously, is Masterpiece Grimlock or even MP-10 (Hasbro release) truly worth more than ROTF Leader Optimus or HFTD Leader Starscream? I am referring to the detail and engineering involved with these toys. And are the smaller MPs, like Prowl, truly worth so much more than the Alternators and the Human Alliance figures? I agree that the esthetic and nostalgia of said esthetic plays a huge role in pricing, on Hasbro's behalf, but I find it hard to beleive that so much mure resources are put into masterpiece figures to validate their higher cost when compared to the other figures mentioned.

ScottyP wrote:Just as a blanket reply to those disappointed by Grimlock in this thread (not any one particular person) - if you don't like the toy, or have buyer's remorse over what you paid for it, then I think the Masterpiece line is just not for you. There's nothing wrong with that either! It's a line where I think you really have to be into the character you're paying for to appreciate the detail and engineering that goes into them, and the sometimes slavish cartoon accuracy. That is not something for everyone or every budget.
That was very well said. I am very impressed at how diplomatic this board is. It's very different than all the rage found in forums all across the web.
