Robots in Disguise Power Surge Prime has recently hit US shores and if any of you are unsure about getting him, fellow Seibertronian Chuckdawg1999 has reviewed this figure for us fans.

chuckdawg1999 wrote:Here's a little lemon sorbet to cleans the pallet between Titans Return reviews, Power Surge Optimus Prime. The big bot is the central figure in the Weaponizer sub line featuring lights and sounds, that are somewhat hard to control and can go off at random. Transformation is simple, but not simple enough to justify the small sheet of instructions, that are only one sided. Overall the figure looks cool, and thanks to some well placed swivels, can get into some good sword wielding positions. Most collectors will turn their noses up at this figure, but Prime cuts an imposing pose and is a lot of fun.

That line had the smallest deluxes, the cheapest plastic, and a ton of redecos/retools. The transfrmations were also shitty and the alt modes didnt look good (and the robot modes wither for some). At least RID has great transformations (the best on the shelves right now) and some of the best alt mode and robot designs we've seen in a while.

Did the Soundwave mold just come out as the lucky gem in the rough, then? Because I've got Soundblaster & Buzzsaw and they're really solid and large.
Then again it is the Takara version so maybe they had different plastic? It just feels almost Cybertron/Galaxy Force quality to me.

My brother who spotted the sighting of PS Prime dicribed it as very "Playschooly" feeling. Not nessicarly a bad thing. This toy is totally meant for the kids. And that's fine. Some 7 year old is definitely going to have an AWESOME Christmas.

Oh, and God forbid a toy company make kid's toys.

I see him in the same vein as that giant Beast Hunters Optimus they released last time. This is the same thing. What sucks though is that due to that removeable cab, I dont think I will ever find one in decent shape at a thrift store :(

If that is the feeling you get when touching them then they are definitely made of different plastic. Hasbro's Soundwave was porous, its really a slimey feeling compared to other plasics I have felt when collecting. He is extremely light too. And that gimick didnt work as intended, the disks always get stuck in my version. And he too wasnt spared of a cheap redeco.

Oh yeah, the gimmick's pretty terrible; but I really just wanted a CHUG Soundwave/Soundblaster. And for that he works very well - better than anything bar Music Label right now.

Most certainly; that Megsy looks beautiful

Though... on the subject of CHUG in a way that doesn't detract from the thread, is anyone else thinking of using the upcoming Ratchet as their CHUG/MTMTE Ratchet? I mean, he'd probs need some reprolabels, but...

Fellow Seibertronians, courtesy of yours truly, there appears to be a new Transformers Robots in Disguise Minicon Mega Pack available for pre-order on Robot Kingdom, priced at $55, it includes: Beastbox, Velocirazor, Sawback, Sandsting, Ratbat, Swelter, Divebomb, Back, Hammer, Lancelon, Tricerashot, Lord Doomitron, Bashbreaker, Undertone and Anvil - but it does not, seemingly, include the sprue's with the armor and weapons. So what do you think of this new pack? Planning on getting it? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

As someone who doesn't have any of the minicons I might have to get this. Looks like it has a wide variety in there including some of the weapons.

I like the ball minicons, but not enough to buy individual toys just to get those. So this is great for that.

Seems like this may be a hodge-podge of minicons. (I see one sand colored one, but not its partner) If it were a complete set, I might be tempted by it. As is, I'm still on the fence.

While I liked the notion of the add-on weapons, after trying them out... there were just too many tiny pieces. I couldn't remember where they tabbed in or keep up with them. For people like me, this may be the better option.

I think that's where they went wrong compared with Energon weapons. (I loved those.) There were only a few pieces to contend with, and the weapons were interchangeable.

I hope Hasbro takes note where this was a near-miss as they look to the future.

I did love how they came on an insignia shaped sprue. That aspect was a home run. I hated breaking those up to play with the accessories.

Greetings Seibertron, thanks to blogger Blacklai we now have some new in-hand shots of Transformers Robots in Disguise (RID) Warrior Class Scorponok and Windblade! Scorponok strangely changes the trend of Decepticons in this line (turning from vehicles to animalistic robots) by being a straight beast-former. And the fan-pole originated Windblade gets herself a brand new mold as well. Have a look at them in and out of package below, and stay tuned to Seibertron.com: home for the best Galleries and Conversation around!

 That is an insanely obvious bit of extraneous back kibble on Windblade. Too bad the nosecone just ends up right there in back of her head. Its bigger than Grimlock's T Rex head hanging out of his back. The only plus I see is that this should finally put an end to people saying this is a retool of the Generations Windblade mold. New mold(yay), but I dont know if its any better (d'oh!).

Scorponok looks great but I REALLY wish his tail was more articulated and less hollow. Perhaps a Shapeways upgrade is in order?

Windblade though...ech. What a sad sack of crap. The basic mold actually looks alright, but the lack of wrist articulation really hurts her and the paintjob is just pathetic. Hopefully the TAV release will give the girl a makeover, though the arms are probably gonna need Shapeways replacements.

Yeah, Scorponok is awesome, but nothing short of TT can save that windblade mold, shame the sword is just sh|t unpainted plastic, the entire thing screams 'crapped out as cheap as possible', it doesn't even resemble the rid deco as far as I can remember =;

That deco on Windblade does ,what appears to be a decent new mold, no favors. What's worse is I'd buy the heck out of the figure if it looked like her actual color scheme. And that unpainted sword is terrible too, and the sword on the Generations versions is one of my favorite parts of that toy.

I wish I liked the RiD aesthetic more, because the actual engineering on Scorponok looks pretty nice, especially for a figure that does only slightly more than "stand up" to transform. Squat and brutish scorpion to tall and lanky swashbuckling robot, now that's cool.

Windblade toys never not look horrible. A shame on it's own, but then they're so danged persistent about promoting the character it looks even worse when they cheap out.

Yeah. It's a real shame, because the base design is pretty cool, but when the best toy of her on the market is a £15 unofficial Legends scale toy, you know you dun goofed.

Thanks to fellow Seibertronian Down_Shift, an entire wave of Transformers: Robots in Disguise toys - found by Cybertron.ca Xtreme987 user in a Toys'R'Us store in Ontario - we knew absolutely nothing about before have surfaced! This menagerie includes Deluxe Power Surge Optimus Prime in a deco that resembles Ultra Magnus in vehicle mode; a purple repaint of Scorponok called Paralon; and most surprisingly of all, an entirely new mold Starscream based very much on his G1 incarnation. All 3 are packaged in the "Clash of the Transformers" subline of packaging that has been previously exclusive to Toys R Us stores. Check out the image below and tell us what you think in the forums by clicking here.

Paralon we got a look at before with his BW Scorponok-esque head, but that Starscream WOW! His Vehicle Mode wings appear to be forward-swung like the Animated and WFC/FOC Starscream designs. The shoulders also kinda remind me of the coronation shoulder pads G1 Screamer wore in the 1986 movie.

I can't quite make out the logo, but unless I'm mistaken, they're part of the "Clash of the Transformers" subline. Either that, or a new TRU-exclusive line.

A new deluxe Starscream that's mostly in actual Starscream colors? Yes please! Paralon looks cool but I would've liked to have seen a color other than purple on it. Or at least another color mixed in that doesn't necessarily have to be green but green would've worked too obviously. Optimus looks ok too but I would've rather have had Ultra Magnus shades of red and blue in there instead of Optimus Prime shades to go with that white. Is there even a difference in the reds between the two? If not then there should be.

Also, is it just me, or does Starscream look to actually have good paint apps?
Considering the paint apps in this line have been a bit... ah... crap; he looks really standout from what I can see. I mean okay yeah, this is a blurry image and maybe it'll be a horror story once I actually see it, but right now he looks beautiful.

I very highly doubt they'd make an entirely new mold in an entirely new design for a pre-existing major character in the continuity without intending to use them. At the very least we might have assumed Ratchet might not have been in RiD despite his toy because it's just a remold and hey, it's a nice nod to TFP fans; but this? Naw. No way Screamer gets this much treatment and doesn't get to be in the show. Especially when there's a villain vacancy to be filled up as of Season 2's ending... and the whole corrupt Cybertron council rejecting autobots thing seems to echo Screamer's role in IDW.

So to sum up...
-G1 Starscream body in general
-Animated Starscream alt-mode
-1986 Movie Coronation shoulders
-TFP Starscream head

How many more references could you possibly put in? At this point they'd have to give him cyber key powers, a birdface and the ability to combine with G2 Dreadwing if they wanted to reference more screamers.

Why not make him intangible (Energon), make him a giant (Cybertron/Galaxyforce), give him wheels (Alternity), and give him mini-con pegs? And make him a Pretender? And um.. oh make him an Action Master. And uh... what else am I missing?

Wow, finding those must have been like a return to the pre-internet days! Helps that Starscream looks really cool too.

I've got to wonder who's really supervising the RiD product line these days. The toys and show (app too, unless I missed an update that Starscream isn't in it) are almost entirely off-the-rails out of sync at this point.

given screamers design there, and the way the last season of R.I.D. ended, makes me wonder if they are going to try and parallel the comics/combiner was toon. i.e.: starscream survived an obvious beatdown from predaking and has now taken over cybertron somehow.

What's funny to me about that is that this weirdly seems to be a thing now. Like, at first it was IDW having a fresh new idea and taking Starscream's vies for leadership to the absolute fore - and now not only the machinima, but the main animated series is doing it. Makes me wonder if it'll start to define him as a multiversal character and concept as much as betraying Megatron has.
