That was fast. We only learnt of the G1 Otimus Prime reissue a month ago and it has now been found at US retail. Like the 2018 reissues, this reissue is Walmart exclusive. It is priced at $50 and comes without a trailer, you can find the listing here.
The toy was found across a few states such as New Jersey and Hawaii and Larkin's Lair, who found him in Hawaii, has done a video review of the item showing all the contents for you to enjoy. Let us know if you intend on picking up this Optimus Prime in his minty G1-style packaging.

Same size box as Hotrod, no trailer, and they want $50 for it. Come on son.
I'm buying one for sure. If it was $30 or $35 I would have bought two.

$100AUD through an Australian based online retailer.
As much as I'd like it, I simply cannot justify that much money.

What I do think is a big deal is the price. He is about the same size as Starscream which was $35, yet he is $50. Why? I think it's just because of the name. He is the ultimate Transformer. Fortunately I already have a G1 reissue from years back, I don't need another.

He's also a lost art.

And don't forget, he has rubber tires too. Pretty sure Hot Rod didn't have those. That second gun might also be a factor

Okay is it just me, the video or what, but does the red on OP look rather pink-ish?
I'm soo glad that I found a 100% complete authentic G1 pre-rubsign in a rather worn box for $100 at the toy show an hour away from me. Saves me from buying things like this.

At that price, might as well double the amount and BAPE.
Damn, you Aussies get the short end of the stick regarding prices of toys and video games...

Be very, VERY sure it's genuine. Because G1 OP have been KO'd since forever.

Not as pink as me. .
In all seriousness - pink toned reissue Primes have been a 'thing' in the past - with the TRU G1 reissue in the past (sporting a pale grey trailer) and G2 Prime to mention a couple. Its worth noting they're never going to get the same red as the original as that particular pigment isn't as prevalent anymore - its not lightfast, which is why 80s red cars (the dominant force globally in choosing which pigments get mined\grown\sourced) faded in sunlight and modern ones don't as much (or in most cases - at all).
Its the normal silver stripe, but when its brand new - it always looks gloriously metallic. I can still remember my old Prime as a kid having that glorious sheen.

I was about to say that, but professionalism held me back. Not that I'd dare say otherwise of you, Burn
Y'know - I came up with a valid reason why its a no trailer release. The current string of reissues is part of an 80s hype build up for Bumblebee and in the live-action movies - Optimus Prime isn't exactly known for hauling is trailer around all the time.

But in the Bee movie he did have his trailer, his truck mode wasn't seen without it, IIRC.Amelie wrote:I came up with a valid reason why its a no trailer release. True, but across the movie franchise, its not a necessary part of him, which was more my point. A lot of kids these days don't always see Optimus Prime and expect a trailer.

Got it. But if we were speaking strictly 80s hype for the Bee movie, then he should come with a trailer, as he did in the 80s and as he was in the only movie (so far) set in the 80s.Amelie wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:But in the Bee movie he did have his trailer, his truck mode wasn't seen without it, IIRC.Amelie wrote:I came up with a valid reason why its a no trailer release. Why don't we blame this on Bay as well? He already 'ruined our childhood' so maybe he killed any hope the next generation had before they even realized it. A lost generation. Lost to a pocket dimension or something when Optimus Prime transformed, because they were in the trailer.Ironhidensh wrote:Amelie wrote: A lot of kids these days don't always see Optimus Prime and expect a trailer.[/color]

Anyway if they do four Minibots again my money's on Pipes and Bumblebee again.

The only surprising Minibot reissues would be Beachcomber, Hubcap, or Bumblejumper. Cliffjumper and Brawn to a lesser extent since there were the various keychain reissues. Kudos to them on these for putting out stuff not reissued outside of Japan!william-james88 wrote:Wow, these getting reissued next is really surprising

Somebody said that somebody said that single cassettes are coming, maybe that's why we've only seen Warpath and Gears so far. If we only got two then who would people pick? I'm thinking Ravage and Laserbeak since I wouldn't want them to split up Frenzy and Rumble and can't see them releasing both if we only got two slots.
As far as the mini-vehicles go, the only two I really "need" are Warpath, Powerglide, and Pipes to complete my childhood collection, but of course I want all of them.

Being the most famous it would be likely that Ravage and Laserbeak would be done first. Though I would love to see Ratbat done

Same here. Ratbat is one of the cassettes I'm missing, and I don't want to pay the prices I've seen for an authentic one. Still hope to get a G1 Soundwave, but just have to see what the reissue looks like in person and what the price is at the time.
Whoops, forgot the G1 Prime comment...
I'm sure mine is authentic, as I had three of my local TF retailers try to buy it off of me as soon as they saw that it was pre-rubsign. I've also checked the TFW2005 board on the KO/reissue issue, and mine's passed all of the checks for being authentic.

I have the Encore Soundblaster and my brother got me G1 Buzzsaw for Christmas, so I don't need the Soundwave reissue, I just want more cassettes

I am not a fan of the price either but the outrage here is kinda nuts, especially when it seems people forgot how much Prime with a Trailer actually cost last time it was released in the US.
The 25th Anniversary was $69.99, 10 years ago. That's $85 USD today. Would people preffer paying that if they included the trailer?

So the trailer and Roller would cost another $35, even though they make up 2/3 of the whole thing? Prime by himself should be $35, and the $50 difference should come with the trailer and Roller.william-james88 wrote:The 25th Anniversary was $69.99, 10 years ago. That's $85 USD today. The trailer is a hollow plastic box. Optimus alone is a more-complex metal Rubik's Cube on rubber-tired wheels. The parts count and material quality on Optimus alone is significantly higher.Rodimus Prime wrote:So the trailer and Roller would cost another $35, even though they make up 2/3 of the whole thing? I understand the resistance to the price. In fact, I'd say it's more the incompleteness of the product & price combination. Even adjusting for inflation, I doubt a full Optimus Prime would cost $85 USD today, considering the Devaststor set was only $75, and Prime as a whole logically should never cost more than a combiner giftset, during any time period. I believe the TRU Commemorative Series version in 2002 was $40 or $50???-That was the last one I purchased.
That 25th anniversary version also came with a reproduction comic (retail cost probably $3-$4), and DVD, which WAS sold on its own at a retail price of $10 (I know DVD's devalue over time, but in 2009, this was a standard price for a DVD of that type) and extra packaging. A Full on Optimus Prime reproduction faithful to the original one, with original style packaging I could easily see for $65-70 even in todays market.

Why are you ignoring the material used or density or parts count?
The trailer is a big empty box made of plastic, that being $50 would be the bigger outrage, no? We dont know what the distribution of value is.
But thats not the point, the idea is that people are expecting to pay $50 for a complete Prime when that wasnt even the case in the previous reissue. I think people would bitch and moan about a complete prime being $85 just as much as they are right now, based on what I am seeing online.
Posted by Rodimus Prime on January 8th, 2019 @ 11:10am CST
Okay, take it easy. I wasn't disagreeing. I know about materials and parts count. But you also have to consider the size of the trailer and how much shelf space it would take up. Retailers take that into consideration.william-james88 wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:So the trailer and Roller would cost another $35, even though they make up 2/3 of the whole thing? Probably. I don't know if I would want to pay that much. Devastator was just released and he cost $75.
