Great news, with 11 days to go and a bunch of Japanese orders yet to happen, the Victory Saber set has been funded. We are past 11000 units.

There is always hesitance to projects like these and now that we know it is getting funded, there may be less hesitance and more people backing it, which will hopefully increase the numbers and get the remaining tiers. Also, the Japanese orders have only been open for 2 days and this is a character that is more known in that market.

People in Japan can order it here: https://takaratomymall.jp/shop/g/g8202200211686/

People in Canada, US and UK can order here: https://hasbropulse.com/products/transf ... tory-saber

You can also use that link to see the number of backers (currently 11674).

Excellent news. Though I suppose it shouldn't be too surprising, considering Japan is where Star Saber was first created...

Thanks for this update. I'm really on the fence with this.

I have the Masterpiece Star Saber.  And I have a "stand-in"/"third-party" "Victory Leo" (once I realized Takara wasn't going to make an official one I picked one up). With both figures I have the "V Lock Cannon", stands, and the Shield.  And they're sized at a commander class scale which fits nicely with the CW Liokaiser and the other Combiner wars figures.  The MP-Star Saber is scaled weird in that it fits better next to the generations line then the masterpiece line.  Anyway, Now that the haslab Victory Saber is funded I have to decide if having a smaller and probably lesser quality version is worth the $180, and this is just to have the Haslab.

If this thing doesn't have all the tier accessories then it's going to be incomplete compared to what I already have.  Spending $180 on an incomplete figure when I have very nice versions already is not logical.  Even if it's fully funded it's smaller and it won't have the small sword for Saber.

I just wish that this was some generations pre-order.  My guess is that Hasbro is testing the waters on Victory.  They probably have concepts for the new Legacy line and are trying to decide if they want to produce Victory figures.  The release of this figure could coincide with several other Victor figures and then this Victory Saber will be the centerpiece of the Legacy Line.

It's just frustrating in that Unicron was special: the largest Transformer ever, closest thing ever released to a proper Unicron was the Armada Unicron from 20 years ago.  Comparing the Unicrons I could rationalize the high price and the crowd funding route.  But it's difficult to rationalize this Haslab Victory Saber project when comparing it to the Masterpiece Star Saber the the "Victory Leo".

I also wish I had more than another few days to decide.

Firstly, you are comparing a decision made only by Takara to a decision made by Hasbro, I wouldn't do that.

Secondky I don't think this toy is a lesser quality than the MP which had QA misteps itself. We don't know anything about how this one feels like of course, but not all MPs have aged well. MP Magnus, for instance, sucks major balls if judged by today's standards. The WFC Magnus toys are better in most ways.

In the end, unless 180$ is money you need to feed your family next month, just order this one. You'll be able to sell it for more than you paid if ever you don't like it once you've played with it.

Interesting points and for the fun of debate I'll address them. :)

Hasbro and Takara can and do make decisions together. I'm personally not concerned on how they make decisions though. It's more along the lines of do they produce good stuff. I do wish they addressed and compared the original G1 release as well as the Masterpiece.

MP-Star Saber is one of my favorite figures. I've since boxed up most of my figures and just have a few of my favorites out. I'm not really looking to collect everything anymore. And I'm just kind of looking for a nice version of characters at this point. An example: I haven't purchased Earthrise/Kingdom Prime because I tracked down a KPP MP010V years before the WFC line existed: It's my go to Prime. I keep thinking about dropping $50, but I have the luxury of being on the fence. And it's the same with Megtron, I tracked down a Heggemon before the Siege and Earthrise Megatron's existed and I still haven't spent the cash on those. I also have the luxury of reading reviews and knowing what I'm getting. With the Haslab there's nothing that stands out as great other than the fact that this was designed to be combined.

I can afford $180 sure: but with a family and having other needs, just dropping the money for a maybe is, well, a tough choice, but a nice choice to have.

Since I already have a Star Saber that I really like do I really want another one?

Thanks for the reply and giving me something to think about.

It's 100% true, but also the entire reason for existence of this figure. The first time we have this since G1. So it's a pretty big stand out. Just for fun, to me it's kinda like not being sure about getting kingdom Primal when one already has the non transforming RED Primal. There's nothing that stands out as great other than the fact that Kingdom Primal was designed to transform  (But yes, I get it, it's not a great equivalent since you're MP Sabre can combine with your 3p Leo)

I would still get this one just in case. 180$ is less than the 350$ or more it might cost you years from now if you get second doubts.

To say nothing of the figure being limited to whatever the final number is, not to exceed whatever the last stretch goal is. If nothing else, you will have easy money if you decide not to keep it some point down the line.

If I didn't want it (and I do), I wouldn't get it.

Every time I let myself be talked into buying a figure I regret it. Even if it's a perfectly good figure, even if everyone gushes about it, I could have done without it. I'm not into selling; these aren't investments for me.

Of course if you are into the selling aspect of the hobby, then that's a very valid reason to get it even if you don't want it yourself.

Hasbro's Twitter account just released the painted prototype! Gotta say, I'm loving what we're seeing, but I am a bit concerned about chrome. Especially on Victory Leo's chest and the sword, though if I had a better understanding of VL's boot mode, that concern would disappear instantly. Hopefully the chrome is durable enough, but either way, I'm excited. A little over 2000 orders till we get V-Lock, 5000 to the stand, and 8000 to the shield. Not small by any means, but doable!

Just passed 12000, the V-lock cannon is looking to be a sure thing as I'm expecting at least another 2000 jump on the last day when all remaining 3rd party retailers have to get theirs in.

It was kind of neat last night. I was killing time before bed looking at the Haslab listing for Victory Saber and over the course of about 20 seconds and 3 refreshes of the page, I saw the count go up by 6.

Yeah there was a lot of activity yesterday, even after the jump. I think the guaranty of funding, and the actual colored version of the toy increased backers for sure. Now it is back to the normal trickle, until the next reveal boosts backers, or the next payday for some people ;) .

Maybe I'm a little pessimistic here but I wonder what they are going to change to make it cheaper to produce like they did with Unicron.

People are already complaining that this doesn't look MP level so there's that.

They're complaining, but it's not a valid complaint. They said it's a Generations scale figure. That's pretty much the end of that for expectations.

Now that this has actually funded, I was wondering, what do you imagine the packaging may look like? (or what would be your wish?). I mean I know the size will vary depending on whether or not all the tiers are funded. But both the SW Sail Barge and Marvel Legends Sentinel got what I would call premium packaging (Sail Barge homaging classic SW toy releases, and Sentinel with high color gloss and graphic art). While Unicron was a 3 foot Cube Plain brown box. Sure it did have a little graphic design, but not much.

I am hoping that Victory saber comes in a packaging that homages the original C-328 set. Having a flap held down with magnets (ala Unite Warriors) to see the toy inside would be neat as well. This is just wish fulfillment for me. But anything besides a plain brown box would be nice.

Personally, I don't really expect it to be MP quality since it's not an MP. I can see why people would make the comparisons though since so many of these "early" toy reviewers keep on complaining the standard TFs to the MPs.

I just don't like the bait and switch game Hasbro did previously with Unicron.

I would say expect something to change no matter what and be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't. The thing with any Haslab campaign is that due to the model, we are seeing and making a purchasing decision based on the early prototypes typically made of resin before they make the production molds. What they show at the time of the funding decision is their best guess at how things should be able to look if everything goes according to plan with making the molds and production.

With Unicron, I'm thinking it was the sheer size and number of parts and number of molds to make a single figure that their best guesses were exactly that, guesses. I don't think the brand team has even designed and made something that large/complex in a single shot before. I really don't think it was a matter of them saying, "now that we sucked them in, where can we cut corners" but rather more likely "oh crap, we didn't realize that we can't have more than x different sprues of color y and have to move this from here to here" or something similar. Unicron was bigger than anything they tried before, so a few hiccups didn't surprise me.

The good news is that Victory Saber is well within the design teams wheelhouse in terms of size and complexity, so I would expect fewer changes here post funding than for Unicron.

Posted by william-james88 on October 1st, 2021 @ 1:29pm CDT
With 9 days left, it's time to kick it into high gear. Hasbro is not letting the excitement for Victory Saber die down. The number of backers is climbing with the guarantee that it will be backed and Hasbro is showing us all that we will get if it reached 20000. They show us the shield, and it gives us a much better look that before. We also see how the Shield can be used for a base mode. And we also see how the base mode would look like without the shield. Along for the third tier ride are 2 micromasters, Holi and Fire, along with some extra mini blast effects.

It's going to be tough, but not impossible. If we just get the V Lock cannon I'll be happy. I have no basis here, just random guessing, but lets say there are 3000 orders from other retailers sites that haven't been counted yet, and 3000 from TT Mall that haven't been counted (I think its a pretty safe bet VS gets more orders than Legends Grand Max which got more than 2000 back in 2018),so, that is 6K, it's close , but not enough...We shall see.

Also I kind of wish the Fire Truck Micromasters' name was Smoke. I'll see myself out now. ;)

Neat that there’s more to the third tier than just the shield, but… I was hoping for Boater and Pīpō instead of Holí and Fire. I think Siege Stakeout and Red Heat make decent stand-ins for their Japanese counterparts as is.

I'll be honest, I kinda think we might have just crossed the number for the stand. I'm hoping I'm wrong and what actually happened was that we crossed the shield mark, but I'm not confident we're getting there unfortunately. I could also be wrong in thinking we crossed the stand mark. Either way, I'm not feeling particularly confident in us clearing the shield, but I'm really hoping we do

Huh? It jumped from 12,412 to 12,415 just now. That's not enough for the stand. Am I missing something?

My assumption is that Hasbro isn't putting the numbers from the third party vendors in, but still has access to the numbers and is using that as a gage for when to reveal new stuff. It's completely me guessing, but it kinda makes sense to me because they might not put them in until the orders are locked in so as to not mess with the "official" count, but they probably get like a daily or weekly count or something to help them track progress and decide when to reveal things, especially after Galactus I believe blasted through like 3 tiers in a day because of affiliate orders.

But like I said, I'm totally guessing and very likely wrong

o.supreme wrote:Now that this has actually funded, I was wondering, what do you imagine the packaging may look like?

I'm guessing it'll just be a brown box since Hasbro seems to think these are part of Selects based on comments they made about Unicron's box. If not that then, like other HasLab projects, the box will just look like whatever is on the shelves at release, so in this case Legacy packaging.

So… the base mode doesn’t have A.I.R.Lock to connect to other bases, that would’ve been a great feature

"Quick do the splits to form the base!"
It was stupid with Powermaster Prime too. If you're going to add a base mode, put some effort into it.

Nah, PM Prime's base mode was miles better thanks to all the guns and fold out ramps. Ginrai is even better since his hands are hidden.

Doesn't even compare.

I will say this, the shield makes all the difference in base mode, I really hope it gets that far.

It's less an actual building and more just a gun turret, like what Energon Omega Supreme's two vehicles can turn into, but with more walls for a better defense.

I was hoping the 2 Micromasters would be Holi and the first official toy of Clipper. The minor tweaks to Hyperdrive would be far easier than whole new molds for Boater and Pipo.

For that matter, Riker could be an easy remold of Swindler/Blackjack...

Years ago somebody on the site made a joke, If spreading its legs turns PM Prime into a base then Paris Hilton must turn into the Pentagon.

Hasbro has updated their Haslab Victory Saber page to have many more images of the painted grey model representing the final colour layout. Here we see shots of all possible modes, including the airship mode for Victory Leo and how great he looks in lion mod with that big canon. Speaking of the canon, we need just a little over 1300 more backers (or pre ordered copies) to get it. At this point, we do not know if the Japanese numbers were even counted, so we'll see. These images also show us the colour of the bloosh effects, which would be unique to this release (so far).

So here are the images, along with some we already posted before, but please remember that this shows fully painted grey plastic while the finished toy would be a mix of coloured plastic and paint applications, as is always the case.

Here is the main crowdfunding page: https://hasbropulse.com/collections/has ... tory-saber
