The birthdate of the daughter of one of the designers. Put short, it's another Hasbro in-joke.

Agreed.
IMO these United versions look terrible. Patchwork metallic-painted parts combined with exposed grey plastic do not look good. I think I'm just not a fan of metallic paint except in certain applications, such as for silver or gold parts. Otherwise, all or nothing. It looks really bad having a big metallic area broken up by bare unpainted plastic.
The only things I like are the fender details on Perceptor and the yellow flames on Wreck-Gar. Otherwise, Hasbro superior, Takara inferior. Hasbro's Perceptor looks far better with the chrome, and I actually like the yellow windows, and I like the shades of red & orange used for Wreck-gar much more.
I'm pretty glad the only United figure I've had to pick up so far is Jazz. Maybe Tracks.

I think the Hasbro version is better. Not digging the silver paint on his face at all especially since he's never had a silver face before as a toy or in the cartoon. It's like Takara is trying to be different just to be different.

Just remove the rub sticker and replace a Reprolable's small size Autobot insignia, if you have a spare. Which I did and it's far better.

UN Jazz is lots of fun. I have him and Drift, though Generations Drift is fine, UN Jazz compared to RTS Jazz is just ...words can't describe

I was pretty surprised with how nice Tracks is. I just grabbed him because of the hood deco, but as a nice bonus, his paint job is superb!

ShardFenix wrote:the only thing i really like on these is the bumper trim on perceptor as it adds a little more to his alt-mode. just out of curiosity...how hard could that be to add on to the RTS version of Perceptor? And how would I do it?
It is really easy, and I'm planning to do the same thing to Perceptor.
Get some decent acrylic paints (I like Tamiya, or Testors Model Master paints) and some masking tape (or a really steady hand) and you can add the trim yourself.
Metallic paints, like silver, often don't stick well directly to plastics so you may want to base coat in a flat, either black or white, or hit the area you want to paint with a LIGHT sanding with 600 grit or higher paper.
Good luck, and remember I take no responsibility for damaged or destroyed figures.

The only thing holding me back right now is price. Unfortunately they'll likely be sold out by the time I can afford it...

From what we've seen before, the red and blue on United Perceptor appear to be a lot closer to the G1 standards than RTS. Plus United's vehicle mode looks better with the silver bumpers. Chrome is not the be all and end all in my opinion, so it's absence really doesn't bother me. United win for me.
Wreck-Gar is a tough one. I prefer the brighter colours of United, but the silver face looks rubbish and his patchwork of colours is far too patchy. I REALLY can't decide between them.
Posted by GetRightRobot on February 24th, 2011 @ 6:18pm CST
Perceptor would get the United win except for the matte shins. If you are shiny, be shiny. Not Half shiny. You know, he won't be REALLY excepted by the shiny bots, but the dull bots won't like him either 'cause he's half shiny.? Right?
Final verdict: 2 more wins for Hasbro (OMG I can't believe it!!)

Wholeheartedly agree.
Picked up RTS Perceptor and Wreck-Gar today, and they blow their United counterparts out of the water.

United Tracks makes Hasbro's offering look like a cheap knock-off...

I've had the RTS Perceptor in hand and I'd have to say that, while the color is a little flat, the tone is dead-on with his G1 toy. I'm kind of kicking myself for having passed him up now that I've seen the United version. The shiny is just a bit too much.
Also have to say that, while the United color scheme for Wreck-Gar is better, he too also needs to lose the sheen. IMO, a Junkion should not be that shiny. Gonna have to go with Hasbro's version on that figure as well.

Dude no kidding. I placed the G1, Animated, and RTS versions side by side. RTS looks like a freaking statue!!! A sculpted piece of art. I love G1, but these "classic" styled figures are so well designed they take the charm right out of its G1 counterpart.

HA! totally. My G1 WG looks like something out of Buck Rodgers in the 25st century show from 1979 when put beside the Classics version. Love the contrast.

Well, Wreck-gar's toy face looks to be gray:
And his face appears to be gray in the Marvel comics:
My monitor color may be off for the toy pic...I don't know. But it appears to be a light gray.

I kind of want the United Tracks to keep him company, but that's another $33 for a bit deeper/shinier finish and a little faction symbol.

I do agree. But, oh how i wish Hasbro would have used clear plastic for the windows and chest plate. The off color yellow/orange looks bad..

Blurr is out in Generations, Perceptor and Wreck-Gar are out in Reveal the Shield but have yet to properly spread, and Kup is due out in Generations.

I think the WG figures are just diffrent enough to make them look like diffrent Junkions, especially if you mistransform one a little. That to me makes both worth earning.
UN Perceptor looks like butt though.

I agree I'm confused. The chest plate that flips open forward has chrome along the outer edge but the rotors (I'm sticking to that term) along the side his fists are not....WTF??

Kup
I like United more than Generations - the metallic paint has been used too much by Takara Tomy (Scourge, Wheeljack didn't need it). but really completes Kup perfectly. Hasbro's is good too and very G1 movie-esque but I prefer United's with the extra colour. Prefer United.
Blurr
Stupid head aside, United wins again the various blue's make the figure look really cool. Some people may say that Blurr's paint job isn't similar enough to G1 Blurr so Hasbro's is better but the fact that he has that reject of a head from IDW means that this isn't a G1 Blurr so we shouldn't be rating him as such and United's paint job looks much better. Prefer United.
Perceptor
I don't see why United's figure is getting so much flak I think it looks great. Hasbro's version is good in robot mode but in vehicle mode United's is superior. Prefer United.
Wreck-Gar
Both versions have good points and bad points. The United silver face isn't good but the paint job on his body is very good as with Hasbro's. Prefer United.
My box of United Kup, Blurr, Perceptor and Wreck-Gar is coming tomorrow from Amazon Japan. Woo hoo!!

It's the reverse this time around: Hasbro Perceptor has the chrome, while TakaraTomy's doesn't. What are the odds?
Yes, that is Hasbro's.
