Twincast is a straightforward repaint of Blaster in Headmaster's Twincast colors, complete with his gun and Rewind to complement the original Eject. Notably, this is the first generations update for Twincast, as unlike Soundblaster he has remained more obscure in the modern Transformers world.
Metalhawk is a bit more interesting, seeing as he appears to be a retool of Kingdom Cyclonus, with a robot mode focus in on his inner pretender shell robot form, with no "fleshy human" components like his old Botcon toy.
Both of these toys are anticipated to be revealed during tomorrow's Transformers livestream, starting at 11:00 AM EST.

At 1st I wasn't impressed with him, he seemed just ok. I definitely think his vehicle mode could be better, it's too flat. And I have the Universe version with which I'm satisfied.D-Maximal_Primal wrote:Hot Shot continues to baffle. I just can't get a good read on him. I am happy with him, he's just weird.
But the more shots of him I see, the more he's growing on me, especially in robot mode. If I see him in stores, I'll probably pick him up. Jolt would have been nice, I gladly would have paid voyager price if the little guy was included.

Also that Metalhawk looks pretty interesting, a good amount of retooling seems to have been done, can't wait to see more photos of him.

I expect lots of lone Twincasts popping up on The Bay...

Gang-molded with the window in the tape deck door.

Metalhawk is looking pretty cool, and I'm glad that the pretenders are different sizes. This way they can seem like their own faction and have some diversity, rather than all being core or all deluxe or all voyager. That would be so boring. Decepticon pretenders definitely need at least two more deluxes to flesh out their ranks, though. And if they do octopunch I hope he's a voyager. And of course more autobot pretenders would be needed to match up. I'm excited to see how Bludgeon ends up looking, whenever that's revealed

Metalhawk is exactly as I expected (well, other than being based on Kingdom Cyclonus). The figure being based on the shell or including snap on armor never seemed like a possibility. We already know from BotCon that Transforming human shells just don't look right and snap on armor was never going to be an option at Voyager price unless we wanted a relatively small inner figure. From what we can see so far it looks like it'll be really good. Moving the wings from his forearms to the back of his upper arms is the right move and the further we get away from the IDW redesign the better! I suspect the alt mode will be a little closer to the Titans Return figure than anything else.
I'm really curious what his weapon will be. They don't show one in the photo, I can't imagine him coming with two guns so I'm thinking either something based on the shell's big gun or the sword.

Since they're redoing the Rumble and Frenzy cassettes, do we want them to continue with the smaller mold for Blaster's? I only ask because we aren't likely to see Rewind in the Core line without something extra and I doubt they'd double up. So they would certainly have to wait and do some type of 4-pk in Generations like the past one.
Personally I think I'm in favor of waiting for the newer molds to match Rumble's new size, at least for the bots, Steeljaw and Ramhorn could possibly get by without it.

Now that you mention it, yeah, if they ever end up making new toys of Landmine/Lander, Waverider/Diver, and/or Cloudburst/Phoenix, Metalhawk will be much bigger than his pals, whom he's supposed to be the same size as.o.supreme wrote:Not sure if it's because I'm used to the TR deluxe,or just watching Masterforce a lot, but Voyager seems to big for Metalhawk but it seems that is the size Hasbro is going for for most leaders. Then again, they did also just do this same thing to Skullgrin towering over both Iguanus and Bomb-Burst, so I guess Hasbro just doesn't care, unfortunately.

That would be awesome! Absolutely yes, bring on the core class cassettes!! I'd rather pay extra for the higher quality figures that still fit in Soundwave/Blaster, I love my minions!

We've had an obsessive devotion to scale in Generations in WfC and Studio Series, so I'm glad Hasbro is finally moving past that. It's not like that many people around the globe have ever watched Masterforce anyway. The difference between Voyager and Deluxe height is negligible, especially since there are short and tall Deluxes. Put down the rulers, y'all, and play with your toys.

As a faction leader/commander i'm more than happy for Metal Hawk to be slightly bigger than the other Pretenders but a core BombBurst next to a deluxe Skullgrin is just annoying.

I tried to look it up and see if someone already made a custom like this, and surprisingly didn't find one (yet). I did find this:

Didn't the original pretenders have a scale relative to each other, with some bigger (or with more layers of armor)? What about scale based on that in comparison with the cores, deluxes and voyagers.

Seriously, Hasbro? You’re going to force me to buy another voyager I don’t want JUST to get Rewind? I am getting really tired of this tactic (Frenzy in the Siege line, Earthrise Ratchet, etc.)

Reveals for Legacy Evolution
Core Grimlock becomes leg for Volcanicus
Core Nemesis Prime with new axe weapon
Core Thundercracker with null rays
Deluxe Crashbar, new Junkion character named by Mark
Redecos of these modular Junkions are teased
Deluxe Shrapnel
Deluxe crosscut, the red wheels are because they are o the same plastic tree as the hands which needed to be red. Mark admits he was apprehensive about the red wheels.
Deluxe Animated Prowl
Voyager Metalhawk, based on the Cyclonus mold
Voyager Twincast has a different smirking face sculpt and comes with Rewind
Leader Skyquake which is a merge of G1 and Prime design and has tabs for Needlenose to dock onto (as we previously saw).
Reveals of toys in the pipeline (no indication aside from names and some character art):
Beachcomber
Devcon
Axelgrease (Editor note: this is probably the deluxe car that looks like Lockdown)
voyager Dirge rerelease
"Nemesis Leo Prime"
Armada Megatron
Classic deco Optimus Prime using the Volvo truck mold from the Holiday Prime. With this truck being the most common one many see on the street, it would make sense that this would be Optimus' alt mode if he awakened on earth today.
Just and FYI from the Hasbro team, February will be a light month for reveals but they will be back in a big way in March.

Metal hawk is perfect
Glad to have the others officially revealed
Grimlock is...well
Shrapnel's robot mode is amazing, not so much for his alt mode. I'd say the old legends figure does better there.
Still don't know why they ruined the movie designs

With the core class Bomb-Burst and Iguanas, I guess the case could be made that they are "smaller representations" just like Prime, Megatron etc... But with Skullgrin being Deluxe, and now Metalhawk being a Voyager yeah that is unfortunate.
However I grabbed this shot from the opening of MF. Metalhawk is almost as tall a Ginrai in standard form (basically Optimus Prime). I know Cyclonus is a tall Voyager (especially with the rabbit ears), so it will basically be decision I have to wait on until people have Metalhawk in hand. If he is taller than say ER/Kingdom Prime, I'm not sure if I'll make the purchase, but if he is the same height, or a bit shorter, I can probably work with it.

No offense toy your collecting style but I prefer the slight differences in height, I don't want bumble bee to be the same height as Smokescreen, or Jazz being the same height as Ironhide or Prime etc.

We are getting a firetruck Prime next year with the Voyager animated Prime. So more of a hint than a joke.

And Grimlock what did they do to you? Seriously tho, I understand the reasoning and it does fit with a trend of (parts of) Grimlock's rear half needing to be bigger when a Combiner (him not being a "boxy" shape like the others plays a part in that), but still... You know, I may get them just because I like them as a case study in complex toy designs. Besides, Bandai's Super Sentai/Power Rangers toys, specifically the separate humanoid ones (Shogun, Zeo and Turbo) weren't that much different. Snarl or Swoop should be next, with Skar last.
Skyquake has my attention, because I really like Prime Dreadwing's design. I may wait for redecos though, especially if a G1 EU colored one is in the pipeline.
Posted by Sabrblade on January 31st, 2023 @ 1:10pm CST
They also said that he's not Blaster himself, but a Shockwave-made clone that went awry.
Posted by william-james88 on January 31st, 2023 @ 1:47pm CST
And that Grimlock is not great but this is further proof that while the designers do think of fans when making a lot of these figures, we do not figure much in them designing the core class. It's very much for a different market than the fans not finding it good looking.

I do think the mix and match with Junkions is cool feature I'm just waiting for the moment it no longer works well, hence wear & tear. Once they get more to work with the options could be really cool.
That said Crosscut was kind of neat for a repaint, and Shrapnel looked good. I won't be getting because I already have the older Legends versions and they work better for me.
The only thing that really piqued my interest was the pipeline reveal of Devcon.

Nemesis is well nemesis. nothing to write home about.
Grimlock is o.k. Maybe I'll pick him up. just because he's Grimlock and I have a thing about getting Grimlocks.
Crosscut does nothing for me, easy pass.
I like Shrapnel, and since I already have Kickback, I can't just skip him.
Twincast is o.k. But don't have any real attachment to him, so unless he's deeply clearances I probably won't bother.
And I'll probably break down and get Metalhawk. I just love how they just rotated Cyclonus' arms forward for his jet mode, and gave him a new cockpit / nose cone. Means I can just rotate them back and have a steak back swept wing look.
Really great use of Cyclonus here.
Posted by Nemesis Primal on January 31st, 2023 @ 2:24pm CST
I'm impressed by how different they made Metalhawk's alt mode be compared to Cyclonus, and he's got more accessories to boot? Yeah, he'll definitely be a buy from me.
Surprised by how hench Shrapnel looks. I was kinda expecting/pulling for electricity blast effects, but bug leg guns are cool too. I can't find any eyes on his alt mode though, which is weirding me out (although not enough that I intend to skip him, it's my only real critique). The assumed Chop Shop from this is gonna look niiiice.
None of these Cores appeal to me, but I already knew that would be the case when the names leaked. Cool to see Nemesis has the axe from Optimus's instructions though.
Prowl & Skyquake still look great, as does Crashbar (he's a real boy now, he's got a name and everything), and I guess I'm still getting Twincast for Rewind.
Might grab Crosscut if he goes on sale like Skids has? The red wheels are still weird but they're basically my only complaint.
So they made a point of saying that those pipeline reveals aren't necessarily the next wave....but according to the product numbers and leaks we have, Armada Megs, Beachcomber, and Devcon are all definitely next wave, so are the Voyagers out of order or was that statement a meaningless disclaimer? Also, is Axlegrease gonna be the remaining Deluxe Junkion or the Voyager....
Posted by Ig89ninja on January 31st, 2023 @ 2:30pm CST
Twincast is tempting, but I can't justify buying a whole voyager figure just for Rewind.
