Still no word on whether this will just be subbed, or if Shout! also gets to use the Star TV dub.

Regardless, this had better sell well enough that they release Victory.

I'm pretty sure they'll be releasing Victory regardless of sales. They've already said they'll release it and they already paid to have the packaging designed and had me do the artwork. I'm pretty sure you'll see it released.

Yeah, actually. Regardless of what I said above, be sure to support the heck out of this series no matter what. The better it does the more they'll be willing to release down the road I'm sure. I think there are good reasons to get excited about this stuff.

While this is awesome for sure, I feel the need to remind everyone of something.

Shout! has not formally announced this title yet, so we don't have any other details at this time such as bonus material (we assume there will be some), package art and so forth. Nor do we know what the plan is for SF to release the other "Transformers Takara" productions on DVD (for instance: "will there also be a big box set now along with Headmasters, or will it come later after Master Force and Victory are available separately?").

Take it with a grain of salt, guys. Nothing's official until Shout! says it is.

Can't wait to hear more about this. Their complete series sets of G1 and Beast Wars sold me on those (despite my already owning the Rhino sets of both), now let's see if Shout! Factory can we me over again with Takara G1 sets (despite my already owning the Metrodome sets).

I will be getting this I just hope these are in English but most of today's anime about 80% of it is in Japenese English subs.

I want the takara sets cause we never had them released here in the States as of yet but Madman had several of the sets done.

Also the same for RID been about 10 to 11 years since RID has been aired on the Fox Box but it has never ever been released on DVD here in the states while the UK has has a couple of sets of RID.

I have given up all hope of Animated Season 3 being released or done and will file that under RID of transformers they will never see the light of day.

But I dont know which to get now Headmasters or Beast Wars as my Beast Wars is the original Rhino sets and I need them replaced.

As is my Original Generation 1 sets they are also original Rhino ones not the Shout Factory ones.

Nice! This is pretty good news! I really have never seen any of the Japanese cartoons other than an episode or two on Youtube. It will be nice to get up to speed with the rest of you!

I hope they're subtitled, not dubbed. I like to hear the actual Japanese words being spoken. It sounds cooler to me that way, plus that's how it was originally. I don't want some cheesy dub.

For the U.S., yes. For elsewhere, no. Both the UK and Australia have had their share of releases of the Japanese G1 series.

UK company Metrodome released one or two individual DVDs of The Headmasters with the awful Omni Productions Malaysian English dub, and then finally released boxed sets of the Japanese language w/ English subs version (The Headmasters DVD box set also included the awful English dub as a secondary track). Metrodome then released Masterforce and Victory with Japanese audio only (and English subs), and then later compiled all three sets together and added an English subtitled version of the single Zone episode (which never received an English dub, awful or otherwise).

Australian company Madman released very similar DVD boxed sets as those of the UK sets of all three series, and then compiled them together as well. However, while the UK sets only had the bad English Omni dub for all of The Headmasters, the Australian sets had it for all of The Headmasters, four episodes of Masterforce, and all of Victory.

However, both releases of all three series have had their share of flaws (especially both releases of The Headmasters) and so hopefully these Shout! Factory ones will be an improvement.

Also, fansubbing group TV-Nihon has fansubbed all of The Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory as well Plus Super Link, Galaxy Force, RobotMasters, episodes 1-8 of Car Robots, and some miscellaneous things from the Japanese Animated dub (i.e. - openings, endings, promos, etc.).

Rated X wrote:Will it be real G1 voices ??? Or the same crappy voices like the internet versions where the voices have no swag ???
It's doubtful that they'll get all the old voice actor to come back for this (as they're all so expensive), so if there's going to be an English dub track, it'll likely be the old terrible Omni Productions dub.

But let's just hope for some quality English subs, as most anime dubs usually cannot top the original.

That. Is. BEAUTIFUL! Just GORGEOUS! The two rival characters who get the most development of the whole series confronting each other for one decisive battle. Most excellent indeed!

Now I really can't wait to see what Masterforce's and Victory's DVD set's artwork will be like. And hopefully what a complete boxed set will look like.

Guys. I'm flipping out about this. It seems like just yesterday I was using a 14000 bps dial-up connection, and reading an FAQ about the in-universe history of Transformers, and how Japan got several exclusive seasons. But it wasn't yesterday, it was the mid-90s. And now I can finally watch them without buying bootlegs, or dropping a zillion dollars on the Australian DVD sets.

Thank you Shout! Factory!

Well, you could have still watched the TV-Nihon fansubbed versions for all this time, whose subtitles are of a higher quality than those of both the UK and Australian Heasdmasters DVDs. Not to mention that they don't have any missing footage either (like the UK/AU DVDs do).

They also did Masterforce, Victory, Super Link, Galaxy Force, eps. 1-8 of Car Robots, RobotMasters, and misc. stuff from the Japanese Animated dub.

Both the UK and AU DVDs were made by official companies, and yet the fansubbed version of The Headmasters was still the superior version.

Why do people keep saying this? The Headmasters was better than The Rebirth, and actually had something that the G1 cartoon desperately needed: and overarching plot! :BANG_HEAD:

Oh, that's a matter of perspective. The Rebirth are some of my favorite episodes from G1.
They made Fortress Maximus (specifically Cerebros) a whining wimp. And what's the point of a bunch of small organics riding inside the heads of the larger robots when they can't do anything but yell? In The Headmasters, each of them were smaller bots bonded with larger Transtector bodies using a tremendous power unlocked via the bonding process. The whole aspect of being a Headmaster in that series was way more complex and interesting than the simplistic portrayal of that in The Rebirth (and by extension, the Marvel G1 comics)

The Rebirth is a face-paced story with a great plot and fun characters. That's all I need.

I completely choose Headmasters over the USA storyline... robots trump little green men any day. They come across very campy... like old Star Trek villains or Ming the Merciless from old school Flash Gordon.

I remember hearing in one of the Botcon panels that they had to introduce some insane amount of characters in Rebirth... like 70 or more. That really comes across to me watching it... it's like reading off a list of new characters from a catalog at times.

By any means, this box set is CHEAP and totally totally totally worth buying... to see what happens to beloved characters after G1 "ends" ... and to see some toys come to life from the late G1 era.

Rejoice that these sets are finally here in a crisp, cheap set. Hats off to SHOUT!

Two points:

1 - if they dubbed it in english, it wouldn't be the original actors... which would come across like a bad fan-dub. This is like a fantasy. Many actors have passed away, and others like Cullen and Welker would be so expensive, it would be prohibitive. Price would jump sharply paying actors.

2 - the series is originally in Japanese. Watching it in the original Japanese puts you directly in touch with another culture, its language, humor, style, writing... without it being diluted or dumbed down by being translated and voiced — by someone with NO knowledge of Transformers or Japanese culture. (The dreadful Omni dubs that are likely left off this set are a prime example... Characters like Blaster, Blurr, Spike get renamed as Billy, Wally, Sparkle, "Road-imus Prime", Spaceship Bruce... and The Matrix as "The Power Pack."

Seriously, I don't want to watch someone botch the dub and then charge be double for the set. #-o (And the set is Sooo cheap!!)

Getting used to subtitles opens up a whole world of available anime and movies.

Even if it's online only now, I'm guessing it may eventually come out following the release of the three individual boxes. (Like the G1 set.) Given, it might not have all the bonus extras.

Anyone hear if the big set includes Scramble City, Zone, etc.? That would make me jump to buy it.

From what I last heard, it's wasn't looking good for Scramble City, but they were trying to get Zone (yet gave no promises about it).

The way Metrodome and Madman had gotten Zone was that they had used the subtitled Zone bootleg that had been circulating the black market since the 90s. Metrodome did the same thing with their release of Scramble City (using its subbed bootleg) on their Ultimate Edition of the 1986 G1 movie.

The quality of each wasn't that bad, though. Sure, it was dated and how a few issues, but they were both still watchable.

At last year's BotCon, 2010, I actually saw the bootlegged DVD that contained both the subbed Scramble City and the subbed Zone bootlegs. I was tempted to get it, but passed since there were other items I was looking for that were of a higher priority.

The subbed version of Scramble City is on YouTube. I got links if you wanna see it to get a taste of its quality. ;)

There seems to be multiple versions of the subbed bootleg on YouTube. The one I'm about to post is in a very good video quality, but it has a bit of a green tint to it. There's a nother version on YouTube that has less of a green tinti to it, but it looks and sounds kinda fuzzy. I guess there really is no perfect subbed version of it YouTube, as the only other better looking ones are fandubs or raws.
