These new images show the Super Megatron figure compared to his arch rival: Star Convoy. Star Convoy was released last year as the first Takara Selects figure, and Super Megatron himself was teased long before that, meaning that fans have had over a year of anticipation for this showdown in toy form at last.
The images show us that, as anticipated, Super Megatron is noticeably shorter than Star Convoy, but he definitely helps make up for that with some significant bulk and lots of pointy ends, meaning that he sort of still stands up to Star Convoy.
Super Megatron is set to be released this September, and will retail for around $60 US. Check out the images below, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!

Height-wise, the Titans Return mass retail Voyager class Optimus works and is even colored like Star Convoy (save for his lack of a silver forehead crest).aronjlove wrote:For those of us who missed or skipped Stay Convoy, would you say Siege Galaxy Upgrade Prime is a good counterpart for Super Megatron?

Thanks to the expanded G1 lore, Optimus's final G1 evolution is the ordinary-looking body he had at the end of the Legends manga Epilogue, when he and Megatron finally brokered peace together.JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:Next image, Super Megatron, Star Convoy, with their Siege counterparts. Megatron, however, does get his final form with this toy, that being Ultra Megatron Omega.

If it's any consolation, the Takara Selects Manga takes place between the end of American G1 and Japanese Headmasters and has Optimus and Megatron become Star Convoy and Super/Ultra Megatron early so in terms of the Selects releases, these are their final (so far) G1 forms since this is a new JG1 continuity that splinters off at The Return of Optimus Prime.
It retains -- in theory -- prior differences like 2006 vs 2010 for Season 3 but is basically a reboot of Japanese continuity without all the detours.
Now... If you wanted to have a different Optimus who is contemporary to Ultra Megatron, Nucleon Quest Optimus immediately follows so you could use PM Optimus Prime's reprolabels on Primitive Optimus Prime.

It's the same JG1 continuity. It's just that Optimus and Megatron are their 2011 selves being given temporary new forms based on those that they will acquire decades later into their future after this current adventure of theirs is over and they return to their home time of 2011. And said adventure has currently displaced the two into the far distant past into a universe that existed before the Big Bang created the JG1 cartoon universe.RodimusRex wrote:If it's any consolation, the Takara Selects Manga takes place between the end of American G1 and Japanese Headmasters and has Optimus and Megatron become Star Convoy and Super/Ultra Megatron early so in terms of the Selects releases, these are their final (so far) G1 forms since this is a new JG1 continuity that splinters off at The Return of Optimus Prime.

Indeed.
Megatron deserve to be able to have a "super mode".
Leader Megs could even be a heavy retool of Leader Shockwave or follow the same kind of concept.

You can blame the cartoon scale for that. Last time we got a megs that was bigger then Prime in that fashion was Animated. Other than that they've been mostly the same size.

Well there was also Combiner Wars, but many people didn't like Voyager OP for being a torso and Leader Megs for being too skinny.

Yeah I should have specified that I meant fiction though CW megs and op is interesting as megs is bigger then stand alone op but op combined is bigger.

Yes, since we have seen his red forehead with the regular face and the battle mask. Logically he can do the battle mask with the regular forehead.

To be fair, it is accurate to the height difference between the two in the original Battlestars manga, as pointed out by Takara on twitter IIRC. Their stated heights are 45m for Star Convoy and 35m for Super Megatron, and although they're not always depicted as that tall compared to like people and buildings and whatnot, that height difference ratio between then seems to stay the same.

Exactly. Super Megs looks pretty much perfect compared to Star Convoy according to the manga to me. I am super pumped to have this Megs be my main current Megatron, after Galvatron, in my headcanon collection. Along with Earthrise Optimus it works out great in my timeline. Thinking about making some kinda time warp thing so Galvatron can exist as well, like Marvel UK.

Personally, I think this is the PERFECT Megatron. Because not only for the looks, but being a triple changer into a space-thank and a spaceship are the perfect altmodes for him.
Now, if only he was not so absurdly expensive...

Yeah, TT seem pretty reverential towards scale/accuracy, if they chose this mold, it wasn't without reason; plus, from a thematic standpoint, isn't it a big trope that the good guy has to go 'super mode' to contend with the sheer evilness/power of a more powerful enemy in anime? so this kinda fits, doesn't it

However...to turn Ironworks (or Airwave...which seems more plausible) into Greasepit, hopefully it will have different parts other than just a new head and new color.

See, this has me thinking, with a base type modulator, they could potentially mix and match some parts from both Ironwors and Airwave along with a new head.

i think its fitting that they use the TR Galvatron mold for the new figure since super megatron was revived from galvatron in the story anyway

o.supreme wrote:They certainly could. I was just envisioning the straight across nature of Airwave as more of a gas station, but mixing the 2 would be neat as well.
The prevailing theory is that Airwave will become Hot House because he has tank treads for no reason and Hot House's fire station turns into a tank. Ironworks and Greasepit both turn into towers.

Was worried there for a second, am I the only one with a turtler with really nice, tight ratchets? he has no problem posing, or holding a pose, now maybe it is the combiner knee joints on the limbs, but they work just fine as arms, so I'm guessing not? the elbows aren't the strongest in the world, but they can hold the sword up just fine; the price you pay for getting first production run figures I guess

I actually have the opposite problem. My Turtler's shoulder joints are so tight, I'm worried the ratchet is going to tear itself apart, TR Trypticon style!

Well, if that is the case, then I guess that's the plus side of using a mix-n-match design for the limbs, got my turtler wearing some terrorcon pants and he poses great with them

This is correct, possibly on both counts as it's been speculated that Air Wave will be redecoed/slight retooled into Hot House because of the presence of treads, leaving Ironworks with no redeco... Till now of course.
As for entertainment Earth, I did look into them a while back though can't remember how much it would have been for air mail.
