I like the colours on Jetblade a bit more than Dirge, so I guess I'll get him instead. And it was odd that he was Dirge and looked so different from the current seekers (well except Thrust). I think the mold suits a new character well.
Ironhide looks OK as well. I kind of like that he has the same sense of look as the deluxe Ratchet. I also like the look of his weapon.
Thrust, very cool.
Drift also looks very cool. With 3 swords (well, 1 and 2 daggers) and a sleek robot and vehicle mode, he looks like great figure. I'm surprised but definitely happy that they decided to make him.
Posted by Valandar on February 13th, 2010 @ 9:05pm CST
Thrust will, WILL be mine!
And as for Drift... I'm sorry, but he's just too much of a Gary Stu for me to take seriously. Decent bot, though, still might get it - but if I ever write anything, he'll be a legend in his own mind.

- That baby-blue jet just looks pug-fugly. Do not want!
- After the badass Voyager Rambotruck version of the pickup, do we really need a Deluxe of him? The arms seem rather gimpy, too...
- I looked at Thrust and now I have to change my pants. Booyeah, Classics Thrust without having to pay RapeDollars(TM) for him!
- Drift Mary Sue looks okay. I think I'll get him so Bludgeon can have another Weeabot to hang out with.

Drift: I'm going to get him. Mold's nice to me.
Ironhide: Don't like hands, rest is fine.
Everyone else: Pass, I think.

As for the others, in order:
Bumblebee: Axe is cool, but new mold or not, we don't need another.
Jetblade: Interesting name, liked the colours better as Dirge, though.
Ironhide: Want, planning to have a dlx version of every first movie autobot. (With Prime being substituted with the Protoform version)
Drift: Biggest fanboy wankjob ever, but I'll get him and pair him with U-Hot Shot.
Keep 'em coming, Hasbro, and I will keep giving you money... bastards.

As far as IronHide and Dirge...I mean...(whatever his name is) well, Ironhide's voyager is both in scale and movie accurate while Dirge(I mean new guy)'s face is too ugly!
As for the new Bumblebee thing, I(as a rookie TF collector and fan so don't hold me to this) see two main problems:1.if Bumblebee generally sells to little kids, why make a 60 buck one that little kids can't buy? and 2.There are too many Bumblebee molds already......
And somehow after all these awesome yet totally random new toys...I still haven't given up on a bigger movie Blackout and BoneCrusher9even though the odds of those being made is.....small).

I can see how some would argue that his samurai style is a bit out of place, but most of the other reasons are just whack. Bludgeon anyone? I haven't read any of the comics but I'm fully aware that is his origin. I don't know, I guess I feel like giving this character a chance and adding it to my collection before bashing it. It's a great-looking figure though.

The Dirge mold is good, and I always love to see new or obscure characters instead of the same ten guys over-and-over. I also like white and sky-blue as a colour scheme, especially for jets. So why don't I like this figure? Is it his Mary-Sue-ish name?
I want to like this Drift figure. Mary-Sue or no, the idea of a ricer rocket that turns into a robot with swords appeals to me. But this figure looks awkward. The blocky Cybertron-Hotshot-tpe legs, the giant scabbards (though I do like scabbards), the baroque headsculpt and whatever the hell is going on with his shoulders, these are all turn-offs for me. Plus, is his chest mistransformed? I thought it was the other way up.
A repaint of him as Boss would be cool though.

It's nice that the G1 fans can get all these great repaint homages, new molds, reissues, etc. But the BW fans, are totally left out in the cold. Universe Cheetor was a joke. Dinobot was mediocre at best. And things like Stalker Scorponok and Reverb, I didn't even know they were supposed to be homages until I read about them on the wiki. Come on, Hasbro! Beast Wars SAVED the Transformers brand. There might not have even been a TF movie if it wasn't for for BW pulling the brand back from the void. It feels like they don't even want to acknowledge it. Give me a new Dinobot with a sword and spinning blade shield. Give me a new Megatron that doesn't require you to shove something up his ass to fire his missile. Give me a new Cheetor that actually has a gun, not Ani Prowls throwing stars! Give me a new Optimus Primal that his arm blasters, swords, shoulder cannons, and a jet pack, and not a stupid surfboard! Or even just give us some characters you haven't done yet. Like Terrorsaur with his gun and shoulder cannons. Or a Rhinox with his machines guns.
Although I appreciate your rant (also up for more "universe" Beast wars,..... and beast machines{I like the characters, sue me}) I feel the need to voice my opinion on the previous two offerings. I think Universe Cheetor was,... good enough, I really enjoy universe dinobot(though the Japanese repaint looks so much better). I enjoy them both a lot actually ^^
One of those things, nothing wrong with hoping for more, but be thankful that we got what we got. Could have been worse,... they could have been on the plane of greatness as universe Galvatron(If anyone disagrees,... send me one that can get his legs transformed right and I will retract my previous statement).

That is sneaky, man I am glad they're doing it. I am a huge fan of the seekers, but collect on a rather,..... limited,..... budget. Always wanted more of the seekers but could only afford the ones I could find at general retail.

I agree about Terrorsaur, but there are figures older than that that have never seen a re-release or update of any kind, let alone Universe figures. Be glad that your favourites get updated at all.

I would be steaming with anger.
But all Hasbro has ever said is that botcon figures would not be re-released for sale thru general retail. Which is why you can get some botcon figures off the OFTCC website? But the Japanese version of thrust while very similar to the botcon version. It is distinctly different when the 2 are compared, in both mold and appearance. So this is a legit way for them to bring it to retail. (Which I am looking forward to purchasing).
Since the botcon Dirge was just a repaint of classics Ramjet. I am hoping that they will eventually bring the Japanese Dirge over as well. Since he is a proper re-molding that pays proper homage to his G1 counter part better than even botcon did.
Botcon Thunder cracker will probably never see a store release, since it was literally the Classics Starscream mold in blue. The only way the could even consider it, is if they give him an-extreme paint job like Classics 1.0 Starscream, and not a traditional paintjob like the more recent Universe (Classics 2.0) Starscream.
Also I would love if the do a Sunstorm figure, I am just not sure if I want them to use Starscream mold, since it seems not to be holding up that well. Maybe use Ramjets mold. What mold would you prefer to see transformers Generations (Classics 3.0) Sunstorm?

the problem most people have with drift is idw talked him up to be this big player in All Hail Megatron, and that no transformer in the 500+ library of characters could fit the archetype they were needing.lo and behold, drift is a former decepticon who joins up with the wreckers.nope doesn't sound like any character that has come before ,except for maybe carnivac
Posted by frogbat on February 14th, 2010 @ 6:17am CST
if it is available at an affordable price i'll definitely get him still - the original thrust was my original seeker. I recall being disappointed with the non firing missiles (it was uk version and was used to italian missile launchers which had their own issues but could be fired) and the legs didn't extend
classics = what i had hoped the toys back in the day would've been like
drift - looks like one of those car robot series molds, not a big fan of the comics continuities either
bb - cool mold but there are too many bees now
jetblade - i was wondering how this mold would be reused - but i'm surprised they went for a new name (i think?) rather than dig out something from g1
ironhide - seems a bit superflous but perhaps for those who prefer deluxe sizes..
classics molds that really need to be done - Galvatron (voyager or above), scourge, blitzwing

Bwa ha ha ha, I love this thread already!
I'll come right out and say it, I don't get the Mart-Sue thing. I may work with cars all day, but it escapes me. I'm guessing it's a ricer thing. Personally, Drift is at the top of my very short want list from this whole event. I think the figure looks just fantastic and that it shows Hasbro/Takara still have they're shit together.
Thrust looks great, I'll be happy to pick him up again. I have both the Botcon and Gentai versions and I'm not mad about this at all. I'm genuinely happy that other fans can get this figure. Everyone can rest easy, because this means for sure that Gentai Dirge will come out here too, and without the ghey lightning bolts too. Hopefully we get Sunstorm too. My only gripe with the Gentai Seekers is that they should use the Ramjet Missiles, not Starscreams.
I'm with 1337 on this one, Ironhide looks super "gimpy" (best way to describe him BTW, 1337) but I love that he comes with his turret from the Video Game. Makes me really really hope for Mulitplayer Protectobot and the Omnibots. Bumblebee looks good. Sure fans are all like "whaaa, not another" but I say, sure why not. As long as it has effort put into it, and it clearly does, I'm down. Love that they put the thought into his hand transforming into his arm cannon. That's what I wanted in the first place!
Darkmount will be pretty rad when he comes out, but his feet are just looking brutal. I mean other then that it's awesome. Hailstorm looks to be the best ROTF Deluxe figure yet, and Pistola Sideswipe looks pretty BAMF. New mold, new weapons, new transformation and even looks like a new head mold.
I know this is just fanwank talking, and I know everyone is sick of BB, but I would love to see the OG Cybertron mode BB make an appearance in the Generations line.
Not to hate on ya UP, but I'm glad there aren't any BW characters. Cheetor and Dinobot, while even I think both are ok figures, are still in stores around here. That just goes to show ya fan reception for both kids or collectors. Mind you, that's not to say that the rumored Generations Rhinox wouldn't be rad, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Funny thing is I was gonna call him FedEx (refering to the nickname they gave the red headed kid in the Steve Martin movie Cheaper by the Dozen) but I wasnt sure how many people would have gotten that one.
On the topic of Darkmounts ankles again, I was looking at the picture and if look at the top of that weak looking ankle joint it looks like there is a slot there where that piece should side up making that fit tight with the foot - my theory is its mis-transformed

That's true Down_Shift, but as far as I'm aware Hasbro didn't specifically state that all seekers in this line would be based on old molds. Maybe if we're lucky (God willing.) We'll actually get a new mold based on Thundercracker's IDW appearance.
As for they toys I'm definitely getting Drift and Thrust, Darkmount is a maybe at this point but I'll have to see how it develops.

there are more transformer Bumblebees than real bees
Jetblade -he was so accurate to the real Harrier jet UNTIL that line of blue killed it
Ironhide- AT LEAST HIS HEAD IS ACCURATE
lots of kibble covering up his right arm and
he doesnt even have a left cannon
WHAT'S WITH THE LITTLE DRONE?!?!?!?!
THRUST- IS AN ABSOLUTE GET WITHOUT A DOUBT
HE'll look pretty awesome next to Dirge
(NOW IF I ONLY HAD GOT RAMJET... )
DRIFT- cool sports car...BLUDGEON MUCH?

Umm, yes he does. It's on the underside of the left arm, look again.

And also, I am upset that they still did not change the way the head transforms. It would be better if they made a retool that would hide the face in jet mode (like a detachable cone helmet that hides the face when put on backwards).
Ironhide looks great. Let's hope Hasbro does not decide on shortening his stacks like they did on the voyager versions.
If there is a Classics 3.0 line, I want to see toys of Jazz and Wheeljack.

You are completely right. I was too busy thinking that it would be great to get an IDW Blitzwing that I completely ruled out the possibility of the IDW Seeker mold. I gotta say C_3009, I like that idea a lot. I'd love to see an IDW Nightbeat too.

Hasbro has done nothing wrong, nor does the figure undermine or diminish the exclusive figures.
This Seeker is based of Takara's design, and their Seekers were not based off of the BotCon/FunPub figures.
It's thinking like that that causes problems in this fandom. A little bit of attention paying goes a long way.
Now, people are gonna be up in arms whining about their figures losing value because of Thrust, when he won't affect the exclusives whatsoever.

First the Henkei seeker controversy, now this? Let's simmer down boys, the exclusives will stay as exclusives. It doesn't diminish crap, it's a 'Thrust' in it's own right, as Botcon Thrust is to the character.
And seriously, there aren't too many fans 'complaining' about the value of the Botcon seeker sets that they buy.. because you never get to see that shit on Ebay. It's just damn scarce. Yes I'm a tad disappointed that I won't ever be able to own the Botcon set.. I've come to accept that. Will the owners of the 2007 Botcon set be pissed about this figure? No. The set will continue to peak in price because it's been an exclusive since the start.
And in all honesty the seekers aren't even the best part of that set, it's Dreadwind and Bug Bite.

I think the issue is not so much what thier figures will be worth once the retail version of thrust cones out. it is more how much they had to pay for thier version, when compaired to how much getting an equivlent figure is going to cost the rest of us.
I would if i had purshased a botcon version or a Genkei verson, i would be upset over how much i paid, for a figure i was told would not me made available at north american retail. only to find out i could have saved a $100.00 (or more) when they suddenly released a retail version that is so simular to mine, that the difference is not even note worthy.
yes it is different, but not in any real way that matters, heck, the differences may even be an improvement. mold wise i think it is better than the botcon one, and paint wise i think it is better than the Genkei one.
i can grab all the upcomming figures i want from the new wave, for the cost of 1 botcon thrust, and still have some cash left over.

It's not only harms the exclusive that was thrust, but harms future exclusives.
Should we be worried they'll do this in the future? Release an exclusive and it has huge demand, so they release it to the mass market?
I don't have thrust or collect seekers really, except just starscream. I see the issue with it though.
With like, the PS3 you could have bought it for 600 back when it came out or 300 now, but with sony, it was pretty obvious this would happen, it's been their business practice. So, what's Hasbro's going to be now?

Well then, doesn't this give you a clue? Don't pay exorbitant prices for convention exclusive toys that Hasbro will likely make, down the road.
I wasn't happy about the Seekers being BotCon only, but c'est la vie.
The last laugh is on the people who paid the huge sums of money to get these figures.
And it won't affect the price of the exclusive figures. The mold and deco changes will ensure that.
I mean, I don't know what to tell you.

You're talking as if Hasbro and TakaraTomy are the same company. Well, they're not. Both only share the Transformers franchise, but each goes in the direction they see fit.
Hasbro noticed the demand for an affordable Classics/Universe Thrust, and asked TakaraTomy for their Gentei Thrust mold, or just the wing molds. It's the only way, really: any molds or retools made for the conventions are destroyed after use, the same goes for BotCon Thrust's wing molds. The main difference between Hasbro and Takara's would be the (lack of) chrome, really. BotCon, Gentei or Generations. To each their own.
Me, I'm gonna wait for Generations Dirge before getting all coneheads, be them Classics/Generation or Henkei/Gentei. Nitpicky me can't accept a chrome-less conehead among two with chrome, or vice-versa.
