Don't mind us, we're riding the train of the hype that the Transformers: The Last Knight teaser trailer set off. Seibertronians Seibertron and ScottyP bring us a small round-up of tidbits concerning the song used in the trailer: a cover of "Do You Realise?" by The Flaming Lips.

The cover used in the trailer is by Ursine Vulpine, and slows it down considerably, while adding elements of previous tracks used for the Michael Bay projects - as worked on by Steve Aoki and Steve Jablonsky, with bands Imagine Dragons and Linkin Park. We know that the latter composer is part of the movie once more, and none of the others are (for now), so he may have had his hands somewhere around the cover.

What is particularly interesting is the Transformers-related connection of the original song: IDW writer of More Than Meets the Eye James Roberts chooses a couple of songs for each new issue in the series, as a "reading soundtrack"; the original 'Do You Realise?' was chosen for More Than Meets The Eye issue 8: 'Scavengers Part 2 - Who's Afraid of the DJD?'.

This isn't news, of course, but an interesting way to revisit the old and the new, and throw another rumour log on the fire of the speculation engines. What do you make of it? Intrigued by the song, the connection, the cover, the lyrics? Join us in the Energon Pub for the discussion!

Dangit, it was uploaded the moment I went to bed...anyway, this looks interesting. I'll probably see it in theaters as always, it's almost tradition by now...

...huh. I'll actually be here to give and see first reactions to this. Either way, I hope it ends up good.

You guys seriously think Prime is going to kill Bee? Really? Especially with Bee getting his own movie in 2018?

That planet in pieces does look like Cybertron's remains. I would like to see Unicron, but only if it's done right.

If that is indeed Megatron in the desert, he looks bad ass. Maybe we will finally get a character worthy of the name.

I'm glad Anthony Hopkins plays an actual person and not just voices a TF, even though that would be cool as well.

To me the biggest thing in the trailer was Hopkins saying "100 billion trillion planets in the universe. Why do you think they keep coming here?" In the 1st film it was to chase the Allspark, in DoTM it was to revitalize Cybertron. What will it be this time?

I am pretty sure there will be more trailers in the future. You know how the final Transformers movie trailers are, we just have to be patient.

By the way, it is a nice trailer. :michaelbay: I just only wonder what that Unicron-like ball of metal doing over the moon.

That and they're probably still making a bunch of the CG of the Transformers themselves. Even the shots in this trailer using them probably weren't "final".

And I think Noideaforaname's idea that the planet is Gobotron is the best of all possible outcomes for the planet thingie.

We should still get a Super Bowl spot in a couple of months, as well as 1 more trailer after that, probably in March in front of Logan or in April or May in front of Fast 8. In the meantime, since it's been a 4-5 pages...

I actually tweeted J-Ro about the musical connection to ask him if he had a hand in it, he quote retweeted me "I.... did not".

Might be Roberts 'turning the screws' again, but it seems like it's either a total coincidence, or someone made Steve Jablonski aware of the MTMTE soundtrack playlist.

I got tingles as soon as I heard the song kick in. It's a really neat nod to more niche sections of the fandom.

Woooooooooooooh!!!!! :SG-BOTS:

Love the trailer!
Absolutely love it, you have Metal Gear Solid like mechs (more realistic what humans would create). The premise that it's humans against Transformers. Maybe we'll get some Autobot-Decepticon cooperation.

Hope that new robot (who looks kinda cute) will be interesting.
Sir Anthony Hopkins, looks and sounds like a great adition to this film.

Prime evil, awesome! Cybertron close to earth again, awesome.
Some dragon/dinosaur robot, awesome.

Sorry guys, all I see is awesomeness.

And Steve Jablonsky will be back for the soundtrack I've read. Going to watch this trailer again when I get home from work on my big screen. So much wow. Going to see it 3 times in cinema's atleast.

Do you guys think there will be a game adaptation?
Rise of the Dark Spark was kind of a weak attempt, non transforming generic low AI enemies and very few new Transformer models (it was practically Fall of Cybertron stripped down).
And if they do keep the High Moon engine, I hope they restore Escalation to what it was in War for Cybertron.

Overall thoughts, really happy to see this. Good hopes for the movie.

(continuing)
What the Transformers movies never fail at is design and action scenes.
That was my main dissapointment of X-Men Apocalypse, my favorite Marvel Villain ever only fought 1 scene. 1 scene only! And his size increase was a dream/head sequence. He was suppose to do that in the final fight and have a mid-movie fight to show of that he's stronger than the X-Men.
(end of continuation and bad grammar)

Looks interesting definitely getting vibes that they're trying to actually flesh out a story and lore in this one. Definitely seems to draw from 'Dark Awakening', I'm definitely interested, gonna wait to hear some reviews of it first.

...Still hyped for a Megatron figure :michaelbay:

Aparently, that Decepticon can be seen in this sht instead:

And that face is not menacing enough to be a decepticon.

Also, to answer a question asked before, the guy in the desert meeting Megatron is Lennox.

In DOTM, Cybertron was a lot bigger than Earth, that thing is just a little bit bigger than the Moon...

If that one scene in the trailer of the spike rising out of the desert is any indication, they may be going the Transformers Prime route and revealing that the Earth is really Unicron.

I guess that would go some way towards explaining humanity's antagonism towards Cybertronians. It's getting to be a tired trope in this franchise.

So, if Optimus dies, are we going to see Bumblebee getting the Matrix?

I can't see Michael Bay having Optimus hand over leadership to a Hot Rod with a French accent.

Watched the trailer last night. Now I know this is going to sound odd at first but, there was not really much for me to get excited about, still I will see and support the film. I am not a *hater* on Bay or his interpretation of the TF's, but nor do I think the films are the greatest thing ever. To me, they are just kind of *there* after the second one. 3-Headed Dragon looks cool, Anthony Hopkins always gives a good performance, nice to hear his voice...but not much else.

I did think it seemed kind of silly that TF's could travel long distances (presumably without limit) in space, in previous films. But Prime, got frozen in space around Jupiter? (ok probably not Jupiter, but you know what I mean). It's like if we were to start out on a road trip from San Francisco to NYC, on one tank of gas, and think...yeah I'm good. . Hopefully there will be an explanation.

Also my son (he's 10) of course was all panicked "Why is Optimus attacking Bumblebee!!!" After the trailer ended I calmly told him to think about all the times in various shows Optimus has either been replicated (various Nemesis Primes), or controlled by others. Trust me when I say it will all sort itself out. ;)

And yes that planet appears to be a broken Cybertron (call back from DotM), though the horn in the desert...that has me asking questions.

Still though, I believe the law of diminishing returns is effecting my relationship with this franchise. The first film I saw 4 times in the theater, the second one- twice, the 3rd and 4th ones I took the day off work to watch an early matinee and only saw once in theater. I have the first 3 films on DVD, and the 4th on Blu-Ray all bought at discount prices. It's sad because each film bay seems to keep up the ante with budget, effects, and run time, but the "ooh- ahhh" factor is less each time. Each of the first 4 films there was at least one particular character I looked forward to seeing onscreen, in this thus far there aren't any. Hopefully the next trailer that comes out in a few months will offer something to be marginally excited about.

I know relative size is difficult without other objects in frame, but this horn appears to be rather huge. Also last we saw, Prime still had the matrix within himself after he offered it to Sentinel in DotM, and he refused it. Odd it wasn't referenced in AoE at all.

In all fairness, Akiva Goldsman is only responsible for the story and not the screenplay this time around. The folks who worked on the screenplay have some actual talent.

Not that I expect this to be an actual GOOD film, but maybe it will be better than Age of Extinction (which I couldn't finish).

And Ehren Krueger wrote Arlington Road. We are not comparing how good these movies can be,since we have seen how competent screen writers can still totally fuck up, which was the case with Ehren. And its not like Akiva has a good track record of late, no one is calling the Da Vinci code a masterpiece.

But anyways, as was written, he only came up with the story, there was a whole writers room. But I wonder, was there real good talent in that group? We know Kirkman was only there for like 1 day or 2, I doubt hat had a significant impact on anything.

Not sure about the whole TFCU that's being developed, but Matt Holloway & Art Marcum (Punisher: War Zone, Iron Man, TMNT 2014), and Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down) are credited specifically for the writing of TLK.

Some good films, and not so good one. It's a mixed bag, and anybody's guess at this point.

Also included below are two featurettes, on IMAX's anniversary with Transformers and on Freya the rescue dog who stars in the movie, both of which were stories we covered here and here. Check them all out!

Seriously??? Not a SINGLE transformation in the Trailer??? :HEADHURTS:

Celebrating 10 years of BAD Character and production Design, WORSE storytelling, and the egregious GUTTING of this proud Lore that has been kept alive by communities such as this?

This is what is happening to our beloved franchise: :michaelbay:

:BANG_HEAD: Transformers(Missed the mark so many times, but still gave hope; it's "newness" was cool)

:BANG_HEAD: :BANG_HEAD: :BANG_HEAD: Revenge of the Fallen(BadBadBadBadBadBadBad movie)

:BANG_HEAD: :BANG_HEAD: Dark of the Moon(grammar, anyone? Still better than ROTF, got no benefit of doubt, tho)

:BANG_HEAD: Age of Extinction (Unremarkable, if forgettable. Morph-cube transforming? Uggghhh)

I doubt I'll even see this one in the theater. Don't think I can take it anymore. Thankfully, IDW has a clue about what it's doing...

Touche', @o.Supreme. ;)

The IDW comics do a better job of utilizing, featuring(and respecting) the decades of Lore that this franchised has produced. I'll concede that they don't transform very often in some of the IDW books(which, is another item that is discussed in MTMTE)... But that's Comics; transformation can only be done so well in terms of sequential images on a page. The trailer is for a Transformers Movie; as in Motion Picture; and the (arguably) most Dynamic thing about Transfomers is the TRANSFORMING... Bad enough that they down-played the transformation sound effect(no, I'm not over that yet), but I have a feeling that this movie will just be "Age of Extinction 2"...

...a.k.a. Pointless.

I understand the dislike for Michael Bay but i'm glad they keep making these movies... it means continued interest in the brand and that means new toys :-)

We can take away alot from this trailer though as to where the story will go.

1. We know there is going to be 2 timelines, past and present (cool to me, 2 sets of characters)
2. These big planet sized set pieces have to reference Primus or Unicron (finally)
3. Prime looks evil with the purple eyes, probably corrupted. (cool flip if Unicron revives and champions Prime instead of Megatron)
4. Hot Rod is in this film, bet he will be a main character (could that yellowish face be hotrods?). I bet Hot Rod will be instrumental in redeeming possessed Prime.
5. That 2 headed dragon, its gotta be Predaking or a tribute to transmetal beastwars Megatron. (I bet the dragon is Megatron's alt mode in the medieval past timeline)
6. Onslaught is in the movie... Bruticus PLEASE!
7. There is some artifact tech piece that Merlin/Arthur will have, the key to cybertron perhaps?
8. The big transformer that swings down the sword and misses the guy is definitely Megatron, I saw people post and ask who that was... how can you miss that one?

I'll go see it in theaters... these movies have always been less about the story to me and more about the visuals, and I'm entertained by that. To see Bruticus, Hot Rod, Unicron on the big screen is too cool.

Just to say:

The dragon has 3 heads

And that artifact is (most probably) Excalibur, we have seen it in previous on set images.

The trailer is for a Transformers Movie; as in Motion Picture; and the (arguably) most Dynamic thing about Transfomers is the TRANSFORMING

The lack of transformation in a single trailer (especially the first one) does not indicate a lack of transforming in the movie (remember, the AOE trailers had transformations in them and we know how that turned out). Also, the point of this trailer was to emphasize characters/emotions and the intrigue side of the story. Transformations would have been nice to see, but they aren't necessary for the purposes of this teaser.

I think the planet is probably unicron because the setup is very similar to megatron's deal with unicron in that there is a destroyed robot floating in space that is suddenly under the control of a currently unknown entity ( in Optimus's case) or unicron ( in megatron's case)

Eh, I know lots of folks are excited for another feature film with the Transformers in it. But even if Bay isn't the primary force behind the film, his oar is still stuck in deep enough that it FEELS like he's still running the show. And while there's nothing really wrong with his movies, there's nothing really right with them either.

I may be wrong, only Time will tell, but the Bayverse movies have had enough 'meh' in them after four tries that I'm automatically wary. ALL the teaser trailers looked good. Then we sat in the theaters and were dished up substance-free explosion fests topped with Devastator wrecking balls.

So I'll wait for the reviews to come in, I think....

I am so hyped for this film! I don't care with what other think or say about it but this looks amazing! People have been saying that the movies suck due to the lack of reference to the source material, but technically the films are creating their own source material. I like the direction that they are going in And let me just say: that Megatron looks awesome! I really dig his look in this and hopefully he can have a larger and more crucial role in this. Optimus seems to have some red on his head when he's going against Bumblebee. It could be related to Prime's behaviour and the reason for his purple eyes. Can't wait until we see some more stuff!

Pretty cool stuff.

THe big debate seems to be what this planet is. My thoughts:

NOT Cybertron. In DOTM it was quite clear that Cybertron was considerably larger than Earth. Judging by the curvature of the planet in the movie, my thought is that Cybertron is AT LEAST double Earth's diameter...maybe 15-20,000 miles in diameter. This ship is barely twice the size of the moon.

Unicron: don't think so. This is a second trilogy (though apparently more connected in story than the first one). Introducing Unicron as this big of a threat at this point rather than saving him for the sixth (pentultimate, trilogy-wise) movie seems premature.

Unmentioned possibility to this point: Mothership of some kind. 'Con mothership? Or the Creators' mothership? It seems that the protrusions could very well be detachable ships of some kind. Along those lines is my last unmentioned possibility...

Unmentioned possibility #2: QUINTESSA! Why not? Quintessa in the cartoon was a pretty screwed up planet anyways. This could be the new version.

I have to admit, I was actually more excited by this trailer than I was for the AoE one. We'll see.
