Given that it's still a day ending in -y, we have a new set of images from unaffiliated source to Hasbro or Takara Tomy featuring an upcoming toyline and its official stock photography - today, we're looking at the Hasbro Transformers Power of the Primes (allegedly due to hit a number of retail markets in December 2018) and its Leader class toys for Optimus Prime and Rodimus Prime and Voyager class Dinobot Grimlock!

The images come from regular source on Facebook TFCN, and have been mirrored below (we had also seen Rodimus and Optimus in this news story), where the spotlight is mostly on the Dinobot leader, shown in packaging, robot, and beast mode, while the other two are simply shown in their 'evolved' modes in package. Check them out, and let us know what you think in the Energon Pub!

Wow, that dinosaur mode is, uhh... His robot mode sure is great! Wow what a great robot mode, right guys?

Admittedly, previous images have looked way better to me, and stock images don't exactly tend toward hitting the highest heights of quality (just ask poor decapitated Skullsmasher :-P ), so I'm still optimistic for this Grimlock. Probably a naive level of optimism, all things considered, but I sure hope it turns out to be well-placed!

Rodimus Prime is the evolution version, so you get Hot Rod (Deluxe) and the trailer.

OK...if that's the case...then tell me...where's the trailer in here? hmm? coz I sure as hell don't see it! I doubt the trailer is hidden behind the figure coz the trailer's waaay bigger than the figure

The trailer is the figure - most of it anyway. What you're seeing there is the Deluxe-sized Hot Rod combined with his trailer, in order to form the Leader-sized Rodimus Prime.

The trailer IS the robot mode. The POTP gimmick is evolution, which means you get a deluxe figure and a trailer for vehicle mode, and then the deluxe figure combines with the trailer to form the full leader sized robot mode. This is true for EVERY potp leader figure. So the Optimus has his G1 trailer also.

well...i was still partly right in the fact that you get a choice between the Evolution version and the Unicronus one and which one do you go for? (if not both)

That Grimlock is lousy. The robot mode is medicore but the dino mode really looks awful. It's like the top half is a good G1 Grimlock trying to climb out of some malformed plastic crap at the bottom. Optimus looks ok... just.. standard Optimussy. And despite my inital excitement when Rodimus was first shown, the huge flaws of that figure have turned me right against it.

Think these would've been excellent figures if they didn't have to incorporate a gimmick - POTP for rodimus and optimus, combining in Grimlock's case.

I am still excited to own a whole set of dinobots and think that Ic an overlook some of rodimus' flaws (really don't like the fact his hands show in vehicle mode...).

Optimus.. the gimmick smacks too much of power master prime - he looks like a potentially slimmed down version that adorned the backs of the pretenders era toy boxes in the 80s, just need some power master prime arm cannons and yet, he looks very reminiscent of his MP10 incarnation. It comes across as a toy that doesn't quite know what it wants to be. By maybe that's just me.

I'll definitely be skipping more toys this time round. And maybe, for the OP figure, I might wait to see if they release a cool black version...

I'm skipping regular Rodimus, but will probably pick up the Unicronus version. The sweet goatee is enough for me to overlook the flaws, plus need more cons, always.

But for me, the worst part of this mold is how the deluxe figure thighs become the collarbones of the leader figure. I'm not sure why, but I really can't stand that part of the design even more than the peek-a-boo hands.

The reason Grimlock's tail look so bad is because both the G1 and MP figures had the robot legs fold up 180 degrees to have the fatter end of the feet connect to his back while the slimmer end of his knees become the tip of the tail, whereas here it is the opposite as legs don't seem to fold up at all, instead having the thinner end of the knees stay up near his back while the fatter end of the feet are left near the tip of the tail, creating a rather unbecoming T-Rex tail.

I'm still getting Grimlock, but yikes, what a terrible dino mode. Looks like I'll be keeping my FOC Grimlock for the alt mode and the weapons. Seriously Hasbro, you couldn't give him a proper sword?

However, with the visible combiner ports on the dino tail, I'm thinking you may be able to come up with some goofy fanmode of a mutated triple dino or something by slapping 2 deluxe bots on there.

That's how bad the PotP Grimlock's alt-mode is when you prefer the FoC's crummy t-rex mode. The head on the PotP figure is a lot nicer but is the rest of it really the best the toy designers could come up with?

Grimlock's Dino Mode reminds me of those old cartoons where you see part of a woman, and slowly show more and more, and she's all sexy and then you get to the face and it's like a horror movie took over, only with Grim, it's his bottom half that's the problem.

I'm getting both. My generations shelf will get one and my Shattered Glass shelf shall get one.

As for Grimlock: the claws are a bit too small for my liking. And he really needed a sword. All the dinobots needed swords. That is their whole major thing.

and I'm not sure what to do with my FoC Grimlock. I really like the figure, and I'd like to give his sword to Volcanicus, but I prefer the robot mode, but it wouldn't be the same without the sword. Urgh

It appears to be one of those days in the Transformers fandom, as we have some more images from the upcoming Power of the Primes line from Hasbro, after the previous post showcasing the two Leaders from wave 1 (Optimus Prime and Rodimus Prime) and the voyager class Grimlock.

In this new update, which is totally not another leak, we have some more Dinobot imagery (in addition to the first official stock images we first saw back here) for Deluxes Slug and Swoop, plus Legends Slash in package, and fellow Legend class Beachcomber and Windcharger too. They're followed by some additional leader class Optimus and Rodimus in various poses and for both the evolved modes and the deluxe-ish Orion Pax and Hot Rod, plus including Prime Masters and collector cards. Check them all out below, and join the conversation in the Energon Pub!

3 things:

1. Why could they not make Optimus Prime's hands BLUE? Seriously? SERIOUSLY?? lol..
2. Why is Rodimus Prime's Spoiler Wing so DINKY? REALLY??
3. This just makes me sad about Grimlock, BUT for the price points that they'll be... I guess it's the best of what we've seen so far. Although I'm sure Takara will put out superior decos on all of the toys so I'll maybe wait for those ones... Although I'll probably get Hasbro's Shattered Glass Rodimus

Beachcomber looks like an absolute must have, on par with the Titans Return Brawn.

The more I see images of this Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime, the more I continue to grow enamored with him & want Santa to help him get to my house this holiday I-) He is so close to what I would call a Perfect Rodimus that I can easily forgive the loss of the Battle Trailer the original had!

I am also looking forward to Slash, if only to have just as many Dinobots as I do Protectobots for a head-to-head battle royale :-D

I'm really torn on those figures: on one hand, that Optimus Robot mode is near spot-on safe for some coloration but his cab looks a bit off and wrong. Meanwhile, Rodimus is the opposite, suffering from a wonky 'super robot' mode. Yet, at the same time, I'm in the minority of people who actually find the gimmick of power up interesting.

I'm not sure: will they be better once in hand? :-?

I'm the opposite of most people. I love the look of Optimus and cannot wait for Rodimus. However, I have absolutely zero interest in Rodimus Unicronus. I'm got rid of all my Shattered Glass stuff a while ago and the head sculpt on that Rodimus looks horrible.

It appears the leaders are going for a Masterpiece like look as I can definantly see some influence from MP 09 and MP 10 , With varying degrees of success. Optimus is where it's most obvious other than the missing smokestacks , Trailer and cab combine into robot , Orion, inferior deco and the gimmick it's a straight copy paste of MP 10. I'm not sure about this as by far my favourite figure is my $300 dollar MP 10 (DAMN YOU AUSTRALIAN PRICES! :-x ) he was worth it , but I don't think a $65-$70 dollar leader is ever gonna beat him as the best G1 OP. Saying that however they'res a lot to like here Orion is the most toon accurate he's ever been (god I can't wait to see what Takara does to him) and While I said the deco was inferior to the figure he's probably based on , and it is, judging by the stock photos at least it's surprisingly well detailed for a retail release figure these days , hell the last retail figure to look this well decoed is TLK Cogman. i'm curious enough to pick him up.

Beachcomber and Slash are must buys

Rodimus is a different story however. While I appreciate the guns due to their faithfulness to the source material and they can still combine for Roddy the combined figure in bot mode leaves a lot to be desired with those unsightly gaps in the arms.

Now the Dinobots will be too small for my CHUG collection. So I will have to invest in the rest of GCreations since I do have their version of Sludge so far.

As for Rodimus, they took cues from Fansproject's Protector 100% as far as vehicle mode, but that Robot mode...no.

As for Optimus Im buying it only for the Orion Pax inner robot as well as I am buying Rodimus for the inner Hot Rod. This will be a hit/miss line for me. I will cautiously watch how the Takara paint jobs will roll out.

You know, it just hit me. I think I might know why Swoop has a toy-accurate black helmet with his cartoon-accurate blue chest instead of a cartoon-accurate red helmet.

It's because this is the mainpic of his Wiki page:

Image

Which leads me to another realization. With Swoop having a blue chest and a black helmet, not only does that make his deco accurate to neither the original toy nor the cartoon, but it also winds up making him coincidentally similar to the most unexpected of Swoop decos: The deco of Energon Swoop.

I'm a few days behind here, but this comment had me scratching my head.

King Kuuga wrote:Or they could make him a giant spaceship like the Animated or WFC versions. Or they could do a giant battle train like Energon.

So I have to ask, if you're so against Omega Supreme breaking up into a bunch of different parts then why are you OK with the Energon figure? Sure, it can be turned into a single train, but not without removing the head and splitting the figure into a battleship and construction-thing first.

Image

I think it is possible to make a convincing G1-style Omega that can break down into his three core parts without the tiny parts. For example they could have the forearms not separate from the upper arms and shoulders (and therefore not being part of the tank) and have both the left and right sides connected through a part that runs through the torso. The whole thing then can collapse inside the forearms creating a single cohesive rocket. The rest I'm sure can be worked out with enough swing arms and pivots to get everything where it needs to be without being disconnected. I don't really see a problem with the tracks being removed, but I think there's a work around.

On a side note, there was a comment about Scorponok having a scorpion backpack.

Image

Uh, what? It's just the tail and legs and they aren't even obtrusive.

It was in the leaks for wave 3 (along with Cindersaur, a repaint of Slash), but it was just a brown Brawn. Hopefully that was just an early moc up and the final figure will have a new head, it would be weird if that mold only had one head tied to it.

It was in the leaks for wave 3 (along with Cindersaur, a repaint of Slash), but it was just a brown Brawn. Hopefully that was just an early moc up and the final figure will have a new head, it would be weird if that mold only had one head tied to it.

I'm pretty sure it was a mockup like most of post Wave 2. Shame though, I wanted Rollbar to complement Roadburn.

Well I'm still waiting on a Titan Class sized Optimus Prime ;) coz they need to start giving us other characters other than just basebots & combiners in Titan Class size

I mean some people have even suggested that Broadside should've been Titan Class

or how about Overlord? do you think that he should've been Titan Class?

Rescue Bots has one in the 2-foot-tall Epic Optimus Prime. ;)

Image

It was more of an example than anything else, I've never owned any version of that toy. Although being a headmaster with a split-down-the-middle combination is much less partsformery than torso, legs, wings, and arms all breaking off and reassembling into a new configuration with minimal actual transformation. (granted, Energon Omega didn't do a whole lot either but he had the benefit of looking like he turned into somethings)

Emerje wrote:I think it is possible to make a convincing G1-style Omega that can break down into his three core parts without the tiny parts.

Yeah, the rocket arms could be a single piece, similar to how GaoGaiGar's arms work with the train going through the lion torso (although sans-different parts for the gauntlets). I had considered that. All in all though, I'm just really not a fan of G1 Omega's alt mode. I can't find the right words for it but it does nothing for me, and while he has a pretty iconic robot mode, I'm okay with adjustments being made to it to accommodate a more modern alt mode. WFC rode that line pretty well, I think.

Emerje wrote:On a side note, there was a comment about Scorponok having a scorpion backpack.

Uh, what? It's just the tail and legs and they aren't even obtrusive.

Emerje

Oh, I meant the other way around. The Scorpion mode has a giant backpack made of the robot's legs.

So as far as this line is concerned, I'm so far only dead set on the terrorcons, and even then I wish they'd modernized their alt modes a bit like the Beast Hunters figures. And Predaking, but that's a given. I might get that Optimus Prime to go with my Combiner Wars Megatron, and I'll get most of the fembots, but while I like the general concepts of this line, most of the characters aren't really of interest to me. Pretenders are gonna be good though.

I for one am looking forward to the Leader class figures. I intend to buy all 4 revealed at this point in time

GaoGaiGar is exactly what I was thinking of with the pass through arms for Omega Supreme. I've got a vintage one, it's a transformation that's so unique that I wouldn't be against seeing borrowed by Transformers.

There was another example that I couldn't quite remember, but it just hit me now, Tripredicus.

There's a bar that runs through Cicadacon that connects the two halves of Ramhorn together.

Ah, I see. He wasn't really meant to represent a real scorpion, more like a tank shaped like a scorpion. Instead of his tail being made to strike it's a laser. It would have been neat if they could have found another use for the legs like sticking canons in the bottom of his feat, but I suppose they still thought of this as a mobile fortress mode similar to Metroplex and Fort Max.
