Following the classic '80s "G1" Transformers animated program came the 1996 series Beast Wars: Transformers, using GCI animation produced by Mainframe Entertainment (the folks behind the earlier CGI TV production, ReBoot). Tied to the continuity of the original show, Beast Wars: Transformers ran for 3 seasons and was followed up in 1999 by two seasons of Beast Machines: Transformers.
Shout! Factory has recently released DVDs of G1 Transformers, and after they picked up the rights to ReBoot there were a number of fans hoping that they would pick up the rights to Beast Wars: Transformers as well. The show was released on DVD before, from 2001-2004 by Rhino in the USA and Alliance in Canada. Those are long discontinued and hard to obtain, though, so fans who missed out have been looking for re-releases of the show. Now it appears that Shout! might have indeed negotiated with Hasbro to pick up the DVD rights to this series! A pair of Twitter posts by award-winning Shout! Factory DVD producer Brian Ward give us the hints we need to connect those dots. Here are his tweets from earlier today; the second one from about an hour ago:
Now, the list of new titles might not have included this particular show, of course...it's possible that this one was already "on the books." Either way, it's great to know that this is in the works, and we couldn't wait to pass it along. What about Beast Machines: Transformers from Shout! as well? We honestly can't imagine that Hasbro and Shout! would negotiate for one, and not the other. We'll have to wait and see, though. Stay tuned for updates, as further developments occur! In the meantime, if you want to answer Mr. Ward's request for help, feel free to directly reply to his tweet on Twitter.

I only have the Rhino season 2 dvd set and I so want to get the whole series as I'm as big a beast fan as you can be. The old Rhino dvd sets are so expensive now too. I want this so bad.

I have my Rhino sets of Beast Wars along with the Generation 1 also I have my set of Beast Machines still.
I need RID to have the complete saga cause I have my sets of the Unicron Trilogy + Animated as well as Movies 1 & 2 and then 3 when it comes on DVD sometime in 2012.
That is if we survive 2012. I am getting my Reboots later this summer I found the release dates they are coming out later with seasons 1 & 2 I havent seen those since they last aired on Cartoon Network.
I am super excited for them I loved Hexicdecimal and Mega-Byte and Bob, Dot and Enzo.
I hope other TV shows get remade such as Megas XLR one of my favs that were done by CN but it never go finished. Then I also hope for remakes of Sailor Moon I only liked the Queen Beyeral Saga didnt care to much for the Heart one.
Be cool if they localize the Japanese sagas of Victory, The Headmasters, Super God Master Force and the Japanese Beast Wars I forget which it is called Neo or Beast II.
But I will most likely still re-buy my Beast Wars if they are indeed being re-done by Shout as my Rhino sets are starting to age as I have had them since release.

And they MUST include (in-depth!) interviews with the voice actors. I am fascinated with seeing the faces behind our favorite characters, especially when they actually do the voices on camera. I'm very surprised and disappointed that so many cartoons are being put out on DVD with special features, but ignore the voice actors. These talented artists are getting old, and they won't be around forever...we've already lost so many. Come on Shout Factory and other production companies...GET THEM ON FILM while you still can.

From the little that I have watched from Headmasters, I kind of enjoy it. I have Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory on DVD but it wont play on my DVD player or PS3. The only place I can get it to work is in my computer. It would be nice to watch those series on my T.V.

i saw a couple episodes on youtube of headmasters and i hold that in the same regard as the g1 cartoon. (good for what it was, by no means great). it was japans treatment of beast wars itself that is prehaps the worst thing ive seen in the history of transformers (and im including transformers energon)

I liked BW during the original run, but not enough to buy the set the first time around.
But my 3-year old is now REALLY into robots (especially TFs) and animals. He'll love this series.
I hope they do a box set like they did for The G1 series and Joe.

Sabrblade wrote:Unless they add in a whole bunch of awesome bonus content, I'll pass. I own the Rhino versions and (even with one episode of season 1 being place out of correct order), they're satisfactory enough.
First-Aid wrote:ANOTHER re-re-release? Sunnuvabitch...Transformers may be the new Star Wars when it comes to re-re-releases. I'll stick to my Rhino version thanks.
RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:Interesting... but like Sabrblade, I already own the Rhino versions.
Um..., guys, you do know that there are those of us out there who don't actually own the previous sets, right? And that we're likely to be more excited about this than you are, right?

If Shout! releases Beast Wars on DVD I will buy them to have a spare set of DVD's of the show. I don't even care if they have special interviews but they would be a bonus. I can look up the interviews on Youtube if I really want to. I'm very excited to hear this. Please release the DVD's asap!

Yes they should definitely do that. On the Season 3 set of the Madman version some of the extras on the discs where interviews with some of the cast (Kaye, Chalk, McNeil and Willows) and there was a actor audio commentary for the first two eps of Beast Wars. Friggen funny as unfortunately David Kaye was not part of this I wonder what he would have to say though.

Amazon has also listed a preorder for the set.

Except that they said that getting all the original voice cast would be too expensive. Hasbro isn't the one making these DVD sets, Shout! Factory is. Shout! would have to pay from their own pockets to get all the original voice cast and do the redubbing.optimusprime58316 wrote:With the series that was not not aired in America could be re-voiced over with the original cast cause most of them is still alive. Hasbro and Takara has Trillions of dollars in profits now so there is absolutely no excuse for them to start giving to there fans what we want instead of thinking profits.
It's more than likely that we'll just be getting the old Omni Productions dub on these DVDs.
Still, while I wouldn't mind a new dub of The Headmasters, I kinda don't want one of Masterforce. It's characters are simply too different from their American counterparts to be given just their names (e.g. - Ginrai is NOT Optimus Prime). Unless they were to given them all completely new names or keep all the original names, I wouldn't really want a new dub of Masterforce. The original Japanese version is glorious enough as it is.

BW season 2 and 3 were each about $25 when they were originally released. That was $100 for the whole show back then, and another $50 or so if you wanted Beast Machines too.
I'm still going to buy the new sets. Like I said before, the new DVDs will be good spares.

zipper wrote:$30 for season 1 sounds like a very reasonable price to me. Did everyone forget that when Beast Wars season 1 originally sold for about $45? This will be a great deal, especially if they include more special features then the original box set.

Oh, I forgot Beast Wars Season 1 was 26 episodes . So $30 for the set is pretty good, and the subsequent seasons will probably be $20.
Of course, I am curious what kind of special features there will be.
