Much as I prefer a jet blast off and not being sure about the Shuttle mode; the head actually looks pretty good.

Except Blast Off didn't have a visor (he did have a shiny purple forehead, though):Deadput wrote:The way I see it Takara got the head and alt mode "right" while Hasbro got the colors and eyes right.
The 1986 toy may have tried to have a visor by painting a streak of purple paint across his face, but it physically still had two individual eyes, separated by a nose, molded into the face:
The Encore toy makes this detail more noticeable:

For me its both. It is probably mold fatigue but for some reason I dont feel anticipation for either Bruticus and I have yet to get any. When it was hinted that Takara would have a shuttle Blastoff I just ignored whatever Hasbro did and waited for Takara and I cant say I am really impressed. I am definitely dissapointed that it doesnt match the artwork teased to us and that Takara opted not to have the arms be the front of the shuttle. I mean its a new mold, they can do whatever they want. Instead the arms are just on the side all visible. Plus I dont think the colour is right at all, it looks weird and I dislike how the front is so extended. I much preffer how this mold looks like as Strafe, especially due to the chest area. So yeah, not a big fan of that Blast Off mold and deco for Blastoff.
As for the others, I am not really excited for the Brawl mold and both Hasbro and Takara's decos look as good/bland. So thats another mold and deco I dont care for.
A third would be Onslought, he just looks so different from what I want in an onslaught figure. I know he didnt look super G1 but taht Universe Onslaught is the bomb. He looks imposing and meaty. Not this one. The Hot Spot torso is my least favourite of the torsos due to how short and stocky it is and how it blocks arm articulation. Thats aside from having Hotspot's inverted feet with ratchets that are too far apart from oneanother to be useful (dont know if he will feel as cheap as the Hasbro hotspot, I didnt handle Hasbro's CW Onslsught either). And I find it really too bad how Takara didnt remove the emergency lightbars from his knees. Now as for the deco, I totally get where its coming from but I am not a fan of it. I actually like the Hasbro colours better.
Love that Votex and Swindle though, Takara knocked those out of the park. Oh and one other thing, though I did and will always ague that Takara is in their right mind for having the feet colour coded... I dont really care for it. Is it wrong? No. But it doesnt feel right either in the grand scheme of this line's theme as toys.
Its just personal preference and I dont feel like this is the best onslaught we could get (unlike, say what I felt about Superion or what I feel about Computron)

And see Will? I was initially leading the charge against the CW/UW mold reuses. But after seeing the finished UW Bruti I was totally turned around. The mold differences and breathtaking paint apps sold me on this guy.william-james88 wrote:For me its both. And while I still feel that neither Computron will be replacing my Quantron, the UW one IS looking pretty slick.

I don't have any problem with the Blast Off mold; glad we're getting the shuttle.
But the color does look very off from both the show and G1 toy, which seems pretty odd for TT.
As I've looked at that group shot more, my opinion is that Swindle actually has too much detail...
Especially on the front of the lower leg; it's got a weird textural quality that's not... Quality.
I don't think there's much to complain about past that.
Well, Onslaught's blue looks a little too saturated. Should be more on the side of tone or Slate Blue imo. Hasbro wins that one for me.
Thankfully I have the Hasbro version of him i the haul from TFSource that'll be here in August. Although, the downside to that imo is the darker colored Brut head.
It's going to be interesting to see which torso I like better in combined form.
Anyway, strangely enough, I think Vortex may be the best looking out of the team.
All the head sculpts look on point, and for me that's a big pull.
I know I'm almost alone with this view, but I really dig Menasor (with the PE add-on kits),
so it'll also be interesting to see who I like better between him and Bruticus.

Won't be surprised if this ends up being the best set of the entire line.
Difficult for me to find fault in any aspect of it.

At first I loved the Hasbro Bruticus, but every now and again... especially next to Skylynx with the G2 aerial bots... it just feels a tad bland.... The high saturation on the Takara set would help would that, and look really good next to Takara's Darker Menasor (which I don't actually have). If not for the bad taste in plastic/build quality of the G2 Aerialbots.... I'd go for the G2 Bruticus.
Anyone else wish they'd done G2 style packaging for the G2 guys like they did with that throw-back Cybertron G2 brute?

I dig him too, he's fine. And I am very comfortable saying that Motormaster looks better than either of the Onslaughts.

Same here, I really think he will be the true winner of CW/UW when all is said and done. Albeit, he does have the breakdown/wheeljack mold

It looks just bad. It doesnt have any decent shape to it, its just a block. Torso is a block, the arms are just blocks (literally, they are practically straight rectangular prisms) and the les are just split kibble. Plus his crotch is done so that moving one leg to pose moves the other. Plus, he has the further back of all the limbs.
So yeah, of all the limbs I own, he is the one I find to be the worst.

I like CW Breakdown well enough, not my favorite but it's alright. Sunstreaker was worse somehow, and Wheeljack is just horrible. He doesn't tab together in some places and the plastic seems soft.
I think most people don't like the flap feet, skinny arms/big legs combo, and that weird hip thing that never seems to stay in place properly.
To be fair though I haven't held a UW version of the mold, so I'm not sure if they've been able to improve it at all.

I never cared for Roller in MTMTE, nor anywhere else. In G1, he wasn't even sentient, he was a radio-controlled accessory. I don't hate him or anything, I just don't care. As for Cyclonus, I don't like this version. Hasbro's all-purple Cyclonus is really cool, the best version of that mold. It's not about the character or the mold, it's about the crappy color scheme. If the all-purple Cyclonus didn't exist, I would accept this one, but the sole purpose of this figure is to be the centerpiece of Galvatron. Hasbro's version can represent both Galvatron and Cyclonus nearly flawlessly. If that version had this orange cannon, it would be perfect. So like I said, if anyone doesn't want all the figures of the set, but likes Cyclonus and Roller, I'll take the others off your hands, and maybe we can both save money. I don't want to have to buy the whole set.D-Maximus_Primal wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:I'm still split on that Grand Galvatron set. Which one is wrong? IDW Roller is in Grand Galv I thought. I know G1 is something else entirely.

The Roller Rodimus Prime just mentioned, the "radio-controlled accessory", is the wrong Roller. The Roller in this set isn't that Roller. Ah, got it. I might have confused myself for a moment there thinking there was a second sentient Roller since I hadn't read any comics with the radio controlled drone version.

No he knows who Roller is. He is just mentioning that he never cared for him elsewhere either, so despite the new take on Roller in MTMTE he still doesn't like him.
And I fully agree about the part with Cyclonus. I love the purple on hasbro

Yes, I did. When I mentioned the drone Roller I was referring to the original '84 Roller, just to illustrate my not caring for any iteration of the character. I don't dislike him/it, I just don't care. And yes, I know GG's Roller is the sentient IDW character. But I didn't know there are 2 Rollers in IDW, so thanks for that, Sabrblade.D-Maximus_Primal wrote:Sabrblade wrote:But as I said there are two Rollers in IDW. Because the BBTS, TFSource and all others include the amount it cost them to ship these from china cause no one is distributing it locally. Thats fine for US citizens, it doesnt come out to that much more than when they import the non exclusives (25$ more I think). But now I have to ship it to me whch is an exra 25.39$.
Lets make it simple:
Superion from japan cost me $ 135 US shipped to canada last year
Since I cant import Grand Galvatron directly, I must get him from places that already imported him so:
$ 159.99 US + $ 25.39 to ship = $ 185.38 US
Thats 50$ more. And thats IF it doesnt get caught by the government at customs, whch would make me pay an extra 15% of the product fee (remember that the product coming from the US was priced higher than the Japanese product) plus 20$ for handling by the customs agent. So Grand Galvatron would cost me 185.38*1.15 +20 = $233 USD. So this versus $ 135 USD for Superion.
And remember I am in Canada, so that becomes $ 292 CDN. And $ 1 CDN in canada gets you the same as $ 1 USD in the US.
So because of doubly importing the product I end up paying almost 300$ for Grand Galvatron.
Thats why

Yeah but that will just spare the tax and duty fee, its still upwards of 230$ cdn and I dont have that kind of dough for a combiner. The other option is Ages 3 and Up since shipping is only 10$ (US) but then since they are in canada they automatically charge the 15% tax, thats nice. So I am not better off there either. Also I find it kind of crappy that a canadian company is charging me in US$, but I guess its because they have more business with the states and preffer keeping a single currency for accounting reasons. They probably also pay their suppliers in US$.
Just as a reference, Computron will cost me 170$ cdn total.

so it'll also be interesting to see who I like better between him and Bruticus.
I dig him too, he's fine. And I am very comfortable saying that Motormaster looks better than either of the Onslaughts.Sowndwave76 wrote:shajaki wrote:And while I still feel that neither Computron will be replacing my Quantron, the UW one IS looking pretty slick.
Won't be surprised if this ends up being the best set of the entire line.
Difficult for me to find fault in any aspect of it.
Same here, I really think he will be the true winner of CW/UW when all is said and done. Albeit, he does have the breakdown/wheeljack mold
Tough to say who I'll like better between Motormaster and Onslaught (don't have him yet).
They're fairly different characters. Never saw Onslaught as a real tough badass bot...
Where as Motormaster seemed like a legit brut. Maybe a meathead brut, but still a brut.
Just saying this because I think the mold really does work for Onslaught.
Also, I will never own the CW or UW Wheeljack, so that will be the only one of that exact mold in my collection. And I think it works really well for Lightspeed.
Imo 3/4 limbs for UW Comp almost look like they could be from a 3rd party company.
Which I think is a good thing.
