Gotta agree. If this is the last use of the mould it's a good way to go out.

That is an excellent example of what I am talking about.
Redwing. Gee...I wonder why they named it that?

G2 Starscream, however... That spawn of a glitch!

Nope, Red Wing is totally new. That one-shot was Nacelle, in an all blue generic Seeker body. For TFSS however, they took inspiration from the blue Thrust prototype, and in fiction it's explained he upgraded his body. Simple.

gothsaurus wrote:It costs more per toy to make a handful than hundreds of thousands. Exclusives are always going to cost more. It's just comes with the territory of getting rare, limited edition stuff.
That would be logical if this mold had not paid for itself after Starscreams release.
A batch of 5000 toys from an existing mold is not going to cost much. I would estimate that one of these can be created from beginning to end for about $2 each. The rest is so you can pay for the CEO's multimillion dollar bonus, the enormous dividends, and the profit demands of a worldwide company in general.

My point is that these people can slap any silly name on these "exclusives" , charge 3-5x more than retail, and people buy it. I don't get it. They are not even characters that are relevant to anything whatsoever, except their highway robbery of the masses. I like Transformers as much as the next guy, but that is a complete waste of money.

It's what they're based on what gets people, not necessarily the characterisation.

Different strokes for different folks. Some people would argue paying a lot for ANY toy .... or just buying toys period after a certain age is a waste of money.

I think this 3.0 round has some really thoughtful ideas in it, and I'm excited about 'em.
So don't harsh my buzz, man!

what mold will they use now?
thy could possibly use the Energon Starscream mold it has potential it had only been used for said character, sky-quake , lyzack , leozack , and that is about it to my knowledge has yet to be used as obscure g1 characters / original g1 seekers , that would be inserted in timelines issues ....

I really wish the Club would create box sets for the Subscription figures. Sure, it was a new and experimental concept in the beginning, but now that the Subscription Service is established and successful, I think they have the latitude to experiment a bit.

Nacelle came out great despite being an idea I wasn't too thrilled about when I first heard it. His characterization and other details to make him stand out are really great.
G2 Starscream here looks fantastic and does a great job of mirroring the original details.
Speaking of Starscream, this G2 version is littered with paint.
Granted some of this might be stickers but he has:
-painted face
-painted eyes
-painted torso
-painted pectorals
-painted pectoral sides
-painted (or stickers) on feet
-painted knees
-painted knee vents
-painted shins
-painted missiles (they're white painted purple)
-painted missile launcher tops (they're light gray plastic)
-painted missile launcher centers (they're light gray plastic)
-painted vertical stabilizers (white plastic with gray and detailing)
-painted horizontal stabilizers (white plastic with gray and detailing)
-painted wings (they're white plastic)
-painted (or stickers) camouflage on wings
-painted symbols on wings
-painted wing detail on body
-painted sticker detail on backs of shoulder pylons
-painted sticker detail on fronts of shoulder pylons
-painted thrusters (they're gray plastic)
-painted canopy frame
-painted G2 symbol

Not saying they have to sell the subscription figures as a set, or anything like that, but I'm sure some people would be down to pay an additional $30-$40 after the fact on a nice collector box.

This based on my experience in the print industry.

Do not raise the price for a box. Sell it after the fact, like Megatronus's suggestion. Some of us don't care for the things and toss them straight in the trash. I'm still mad about TFCC Transmutate being overcosted because of that silly box for her and Rampage. Its not even a window-box where anyone could see inside. Why would I ever put them in it?megatronus wrote:gothsaurus wrote:Yeah, being 6 deluxes, they might be able to cram them all in a Botcon style box. I do wonder how many would get boxes after the fact. I'd love that option. Maybe if they weren't the shipping box (ie. toys shipped earlier), they could cut costs and fit more in the box. (ie. less foam between, more figures crammed in the box.) Hmmmm.
I have to say, I'd buy retroactive boxes for 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 if they decided to do it. Maybe they could sell them at the convention to save on shipping.
Okay. I've solved all the logistical problems. Hop to it!! LOL.

shockblast2 wrote:Good thing his mold is worn out. How many "club exclusives" has this mold raked out of the fandom at $45 a pop? It is funny to me that they can take this mold, color it in any combination of colors, slap some half assed name on it, sell it to people at a premium, and people will actually spend their hard earned cash in it.
Silliness...........
This right here, but whatever... not my money.
I just want to finally see Tarantulas!

The result? That niche buys that figure and are excited... and the REST of the fandom says "This isn't for me. What a rip off!"
Most fans will look at the 10 or so pieces the club releases and like maybe two or three to buy. (And dislike the other 2/3 of the set, maybe sell them...)
My point — these are niche releases... not aimed at the "bright yellow Bumblebee muscle-car consuming masses". They're not supposed to please everyone. (If they were, then Hasbro would have already released that toy/idea to the masses.)
But that's what is AMAZING about this whole thing. It's giving specific weird toys to niche groups that would never get them otherwise. If it were please-everyone generic normy schlock, that would be a depressing flop of a club.

BUT that's a tiny complaint. They might actually be giving a nod to the neon green in the upgraded Transmetal version (?)
Either way, I too have the original Botcon set. This will display GREAT with that lineup. Cheers to the club for filling in a gap. (same with G2 Starscream and other thoughtful choices.)
