With a brand new toy line set for release this year, the pictures keep on rolling in! The latest figures we can feast our eyes on are the
5 Pack Combaticons, as well as
Smolder with Chopster, and
Searchlight with Backwind. Courtesy of
TFW2005 member Terrorcon_King, we get more in-depth images compared to the shots at
Toy Fair 2010.
The 5 Pack Combaticons, much like other 5 Pack combiners in this toyline, have a central figure which is the only one that has a robot mode. The rest merely have alternate modes and act as limbs in the combined mode. We've previously seen images of the
two 2-packs, however these are also more up close. Check out the pictures below!

I like these. I like them a lot.
All we need is a deluxe sized Arcee so we can insert Hotrod into her.
I'd have pee'd myself at these as a kid - I was mad about Gestalts (I had all of them). It begs the question of why they didn't do this sooner for a Transformers line?

speaking as someone who grew up with the first generation these look really nice although the five team combiner does make sense with one central robot controlling the add-on counter parts it still would be nice to have them all as separate robots like in the first generation. with that said I really want to see all this line has to offer i bet it will be great some how it takes me back to the head/target/power masters of the fist generation

I wouldn't give up on that hope, my friend! They could still release upgrade packs that had mini robos!

What are those light neon blue sections all the main bots have? Is that just a connection point for the smaller bots a la minicons? Or could it possibly be (glee!) a combine-with-other-main-robots feature? or is it just to let them take the place of one of the "core" bots from the 5-bot sets?

All larger figures, Smolder, and Searchlight for example, can be the 'central' piece of a Combiner. So to answer your question, yeah.

I am in two minds about this series. I do like the concept of a range of scout class figures that can be the central robot of a combiner, I like the targetmaster/minicon partners returning...
Onslaught's transformation to form the centre of Bruticus there is quite neat, I wonder if the rest are that nice.
But...
I hate the minicons being made from translucent plastic, just brings back bad memories of Energon, and worse, also dredging up the worst of energon, the hand-less combiner limbs. The drones do not have to pull off a robot mode as well, there is no excuse for not having proper hands! If they had given them hands, they could hold the targetmaster guns.
I will be getting Huffer for my classics set definitely, I guess I will evaluate the others when I can see them up close, and get some video reviews.

These are still a definite pass for me. The fact that the combiner limbs have no robot mode completely kills it for me. And the fact that the other figures minicons are clear colored plastic easily makes those an easy pass as well. If they were solid colored with painted details, maybe, but clear = no way.
Dunno if it makes sense to anyone else, but when I see a clear bot, ala ghost starscream, that means, to me, that the bots aren't real made-o-metal robots, just something like energy constructs or something. So partnering the "real" bots with these clear things just makes me not even care.

Im sorry, but the more I see of this line, the more I think that Hasbro has taken two steps back with it. IMO they look pretty weak all around and lack detail. There is enough stuff coming out to keep me broke enough to not need any of this line.

It's clearer now that all minicons look way out of proportion when attached to the alt modes. I wouldn't mind the lack of robot modes in the combiner limbs if Hasbro hadn't shortchanged articulation and aesthetic. No robot mode in exchange for awkward-not-even-elbow-articulated-clawed-arm? Man, these could've been awesome. Instead, these are worse that G1 combiners, and by 2010, shouldn't we have better?

While I like these I do have two complaints:
1 The bloody translucent plastic the minicons are made off.
2 Why remove the robot-mode of the limbs if they still fail at giving them decent looking hands? Claws and stuff, WTF?!

I'll be picking these up.
I'm not concerned with the fact the limbs have no robot modes. How often do the limbs ever become robots, anyway? Maybe once, just to see what the robot looks like? After that, for me, they become permanent appendages.

DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT!!! WTF Hasbro, at first this was a pass for me, was not going to even purchase these guys but the simple fact that you guys made SMOLDER a decepticon as an ambulance is just SICK!, I love it, the true meaning of a decepticon, I like this concept of making rescue vehicles decepticons, just like barricade that false sense of security...I can see him as a repaint of G1 protectobot First Aid...he is a WIN for me...SEARCHLIGHT, I would have renamed this guy HIGHBROW ( I know he's not a Headmaster...YET) but he has a similar updated style to him..unless Hasbro lost the rights to his name, like octane...oh well...he will be my HIGHBROW!

I think these will be a great addition to the Transformers world. I will admit that the all-spark cyan color attachment points are quite loud! I do like the Auto-transform ability on the limbs. It's not a bad take on this line. I don't want to see it be the standard for figures to come, but will have to pick up a couple.

i don't know how i feel about these things. The connector ports on the deluxe figures look horrible and the clear plastic makes follows suit. I'll probably just pick up the ones that ca fit into my classics line and easily pass on the rest.
And i can live with the Combaticon limbs not having robot modes, but what did we gain by not getting them? Claw hands and horrible articulation?..

And one other thing: collectors are the only ones who give a rats ass about the individual robot modes. The kids- to whom these toys are TARGETED- could care less.

Despite being smaller sized figures, that combiner looks nice and fierce. It would be nice if the little guys have robot modes too, but I'm amused with the useful drones controlled by a main robot idea, too.
Just need a blue Autobot version of the fire truck with a set of rescue vehicles and we'd have mini Protectobots vs mini Combaticons.

They look fairly nice, but as somebody already said: what's with the claw limbs.
I mean you already removed the robot modes, the least you could do was give us decent looking arms and feet. Call me crazy, but I like human looking hands/fists, like the G1 gestalts had.
Not usually one to praise Bandai's Power Rangers/Super Sentai, but at least their fists look like fists most of the time for their not transforming limb components, not some bizarre claw thing.
Would it have been to difficult to give them fists, and retain the articulation?
Anyway, they look interesting enough, and having the stand alone larger bots be able to combine with any of the smaller limb units is a good idea.
I might pick up a few.

Pictures don't mean a thing when it comes to judging support. I'm sure these limbs aren't too heavy because all they have are alternate modes. This means more poseability, which is great news for Combiners.

Just what I was thinking.
This thing has sideways knees, no rotating elbows, and no evidence has actually been shown of those arms rotating at the shoulder which probably means that the shoulder joint can't even hold the arm up.
You'd think that because they don't turn into robots as well that they could accomplish something better than this junk.

Well, so far this line is a pass for me. I liked the idea of new combiners but these are just lacking. Being a fan of individual robot modes for the limbs is a big reason why I can't see myself picking up any of them. (That and I would hope that the articulation would be decent to good with the removal of robot modes, but that seems unlikely from the pics.) Though the two-packs seem interesting, will have to judge them on a bot by bot basis.
