You're not liking the mini-con crack? That's a surprise.

They're fine. By comparison to the ones we've got previously, not so good though.

Also, Counterpunch, you usually have a snarky, well aimed and timed comment but so far today they are filled with sadness. this saddens me /sadface

Also, i'm working on an armada collection, who's got tips for collecting all those delectable little morselcons? by "working on", i mean i have maybe 12 so far
Armada tends to go for a pretty low price in Buy Sell Trade Forums across the Transformers web. I don't think you need any help in ways of suggestions.. just know that every Mini-con is a wonderful sculpted mini-Transformer. I'd say that these PCC little guys aren't truly mini-cons, as they don't have any alternate mode!

The price isnt exactly the issue so much as its keeping track of all the minicons, i've seen pictures on this forum of collections that cover good sized tables. Intimidating is the word that comes to mind.

I've been thinking of them as a sort of Nebulan partner (though, rather departed from the target masters of so long ago), a weapon buddy for the 2 pack commanders. i simply view them as minicons who's alt mode is a turret, buzzsaw, whatever. Though since i don't have many minicons to compare to eachother and since we haven't seen any side by sides of old and new, I guess i don't know if I'll call them minicons either.

You've got to set your goals right now, whether or not you want to collect just Hasbro Armada. There itself, there's only about 10-15 mini-con 3-packs, repaints included, and the rest is just the toyline itself.

Their best? Those were the only lines last year. Historically Targetmasters, Headmasters, Powermasters, Armada and Energon, all chalk full of gimmicks, tend to be fan favourites, have all sold quite well, and have hooked new kids into Transformers. Animated was a marina full of QC problems, bad paintjobs, terrible distribution and half the cartoon cast didn't even receive toys. Universe 2.0 was a failure compared to Classics. Distribution was terrible, some figures didn't even have a chance off the assembly line (Ironhide). ROTF had repaints and remolds in the first waves. Compared to the 2007 Movie line, ROTF has been pretty awful overall, I gave up after Deluxe Mudflap shit the bed. Repaints were unoriginal, too many bloody Bumblebees, and half of the figures still shelfwarm. The only saving grace is that several of the figures aimed for 'Generations, Bludgeon for example, was released in ROTF to bring interest back into the line.
Hasbro's going back to their roots. PCC is aimed for the younger Generation, Generations for the older, and 'Transformers' for the movie-verse group. I believe all lines will sell well.

Not really interested in the line though. It's not a bad idea, I just don't really love the look of the base figures and I dislike the clear plastic for the little partners.
If these guys are going to be in the show, I wonder if they'll be essentially made of energy? Why else have this clear plastic?

Smolder/Chopster look okay, but Searchlight/Backwind just don't work. That mini-con thing ... whatever it is, is just too large for what it's attached to.

They are finally getting away from the movie-robo-skeleton look, but the faces/heads are still too creature-ish.

Well, I think I was a bit too harsh. Smolder does look good. The other one, not so much.
I've been reorganizing my toy room and it's made me realize a bit more clearly what I was hoping to see come to life this year. I think I'll be waiting a while for that to happen unfortunately. See, previously it seemed as if the movie related stuff could exist alongside the non-movie stuff, but this slow integration really bothers me.
Anyway, working on collecing Armada? My advice is to start looking at what Japanese figures you'll want over the American versions so you don't overlap too much. The Japanese versions of Armada toys are kind of the height of where the US was wrong and Japan got it right. Just FYI.

I just hope the robot modes don't look like weird creatures as the movie lines have done.

That's funny. I too have recently started collecting the Armada minicons. I have bought about 14 so far on ebay in the past two weeks.

They all do. A robot mode head, and a head for use when combines with drones from the 5-pack combiner sets.

Oh wait, you're serious? Blanket statements like that about those guys is asking to be picked at. There are a decent handful that are good. The vast majority are not. Saying every one is wonderful is flat out ludicrous.
I dunno, I like these guys more every time I see em. The clear Mini-Cons are the most interesting part IMO. They do multiple things and the transparent colors look great to me. The bots they're partnered with are just icing. I can't wait to see the possibilities for Botcon and club figures from these further down the road.

Every single one is wonderful, even the ones that are so horrible they make no sense at all and can not stand up.
Special babies need the most love.

...but I expect ludicrous from you above all others my man! Oh and Razorclaw, I kinda dig the dragon guy. I don't own it but I think he looks kinda neat.

I thought that, until I owned one. It's somewhat a relief that Dragoyell looks to be a lucky draw style figure, so I'm not obligated to buy one.

these figures look like something i found at the back of my fridge after 3 years.
gross, nasty, and not interested.

There are some pros out of this, can we all aford the stuff Takara is pumping out from MPs to the occasional well designed 1 offs, not forgetting all the 3rd party goodness. Imagine if this line was any good. I understand some of you will love this line, but I also know there are some of you can't afford everything you want and will actually buy some of these when you could have that MP figure you have always wanted, or the last few missing BT/Alts in your collection, or a peice of G1 history. All I'm saying is there is alot on offer now, and this doesn't come close. And I know every one is entitled to there own opinion, but some of you make me want to scream.
It wouldn't be so bad if there was some balance, but everything now seems to be crazy and goofy looking.
Animated wasn't my cup of tea, [and yes it was crazy and goofy looking, but that was the point], but I really think it showed some originality, and some of the designs will end up on my shelf one day. It's weird how something so clever has not inspired the next line, instead we have a re-hash of things that didn't work.

But this saves me money to buy other things. Like Fansproject kits and G1s.

Edit: I don't much care for the clear colors on the minicons myself, but a little silver paint applied and problem is solved.
