We're still a few days away from the official reveal of MP-60 Ginrai and MPG-09 Super Ginrai on April 10, but a new batch of solicitation images have surfaced. Coming via HK retailer HobbyLand (via TFW2005) the new images are not just clearer but also include more looks at the figures and the accessories they both come with. Of note is replacement red eye lenses for Super Ginrai to give him toy accurate eyes, as well as some additional effect parts. Pre-orders will likely open the same day as the full reveal and both will be released in December. Apparently, thanks to some counting system, MP-60 is actually the 100th MP release and the instruction will include a book to commemorate the milestone (that's the blue box in the bottom corner of the last image).

You can see some of the deco differences. The mp-60 version has yellow under the knees, all silver legs and a fully white crotch piece. The mpg has no yellow on the knees, but does on the crotch, with blue upper thighs

The one with the trailer does come with everything, including the cab. The only difference is the lone one have the toy deco. It seems this one will come with stickers to turn the trailer that is in toon deco into toy deco.

So that mean that the toy deco enthusiasts would have to double-dip and be stuck with an extra cab in the end.

These two are really just victims of Takara trying to further justify categorizing the MP line. Since MP-60 is also being called the 100th MP it had to be something special, it couldn't just be anybody so Ginrai makes perfect sense. However they also seem to be being sticklers for figures that combine with other figures/parts going in the MPG line and will likely shape the line in the future (like MPG Armada Prime who placed second in the poll between Star Saber and Super Ginrai). So they really painted themselves into a corner and couldn't put Super Ginrai in the regular MP line without breaking their own rules so we just got Ginrai without the trailer to represent Masterforce in the line. On the bright side it also means we could see MPG God Bomber in the future and if they do make MPG Armada Prime we might also see MPG Armada Jetfire and Overload as well.

You mention Armada Prime, which is an interesting footnote to this release. Powermaster Prime/Ginrai is the Last G1 Optimus for the Masterpiece line (other than MP Orion Pax, which I highly doubt would be a thing). The next up would be Armada Prime (given Car Robots Prime is now a HasLab release).

Because the cab on its own doesn't combine with anything. It wouldn't make sense to put a non-combining figure in the MPG line when the G in MPG specifically denotes combination: "Gattai".

Since Powermaster Optimus Prime was THE OP of my childhood, I'm basically obligated to get this, but did they have to make the arms look so stupid in vehicle mode? I can't believe they couldn't engineer some clever mechanism to shorten those down for transformation. Anyways, it's official and cool enough, I'm in.

I broke my G1 Prime early on so until PM Prime was released my Autobots were leader less.

I can't help but think now that the entire reason why they decided to make HasLab RID Prime so much bigger was simply because they knew this was coming and wanted to make a figure that could stand up to an MP release. Even the price ended up roughly the same once the discounts are made.

On his own he's a solid piece non-combiner. His cab and trailer are one guy, with the cab forming the arms and the rest of the body is formed by the trailer.

AS you guys have said, I believe this an good step towards an Armada( and other series) Masterpieces, since this require combining parts in a way that the line didn't do before.

Below you will see official images of the upcoming MPG-09 Super Ginrai. This is a cartoon-accurate version of the upcoming trailer-less Masterpiece MP-60 Ginrai. This MPG version includes the trailer and can combine with it to form Super Ginrai. The images we have include the robot mode, cab mode, cab and trailer mode and the Super Ginrai combiner mode.

Same here. But it's an objection I move to most MP toys nowadays, since they opted for a look more similar to the cartoon/anime series.

I Don't understand why they are doing 2 releases. Why would anyone want just the cab (MP-60)?. I mean I know MP Primes have been offered multiple times with just the cab, especially in the beginning, when nobody knew if the MP line was going to be ongoing.

But Super Ginrai/PM Prime has never been sold without his trailer in any other release that I am aware of. Of course I feel the same about the original Prime. I remember the TRU Commemorative series in 2002 having the trailer. I cant remember when the first "cab only" Original reproduction Optimus was offered? I want to say it was the Walmart one around 2016/17 ? But it could have been before that...but it still seemed odd, not something Id ever consider purchasing.

Agreed. These are 1980s and early 1990s animation models...the very definition of bland. I guess I am leaning more towards the detailing and little things now.

MP-60 = toy colors cab-only
MPG-09 = cartoon colors cab and trailer, w/ bonus optional stickers to give the trailer toy colors

Ginrai looks fine, the wheels might be a bit on the thin side but I'd be tempted to go cab only on this. Power Master Optimus Prime this aint and that's the whole point but not a representation I would want. Reissue g1 looks to have more wow factor despite being a brick.

This looks awesome to me. It's my fav version of G1 Optimus or just him in general. Put me down as one that would buy just the cab version, if I collected MP's. What I would love, is a Leader class cab version, near same height of Selects Super Megatron. Now I am kinda hoping the SS86 Commander Optimus is a Ginrai/PM one.

While I'm not getting it as I have no attachment to the character or original toy, I am very happy with what they did with the feet. They found a way of integrating ankle tilt but still keeping the original design of his GIANT boots.

Amazon Japan has put up their listings for the newly revealed Masterpiece figures. Fans have placed in order already and with shipping, Super Ginrai comes to just shy of $300 USD shipped. Prices may come down further over time. Other Japanese retailers have these for order too, like Ami Ami.

If I am being honest, the alternate red eyed head sculpt pushed me over the edge to do it

Not sure how I feel about Ginrai / Super Ginrai.

But my word.... that heroic pelvic thrust.... :shock:

If I had $300 disposable bucks I might go for it.

But as it is, I'll just keep my Takara Legends Super Ginrai and God Bomber. As bad as those awkward feet are.

I would appreciate a comparison shot though. Just to see how far 200 more bucks of budget can go.

I just pre-ordered the full set.
But holy shit, around half a grand Canadian, taxed and shipped. :shock:

This will be at the second place of my most expensive Transformers ever, right before the G1 Victory Saber set.

See that bullet-pointed note in the bottom half of the pic? This text:

「マスターピース」シリーズは100体目の発売を機に今作で終了となり、今後トランスフオーマーの最高峰ブランドは次世代最高峰ブランドである「トランスフォーマーMPG」に統一となります。

When translated into English, (courtesy of DeepL) it states the following:

The "Masterpiece" series will come to an end with the release of the 100th figure, and the highest Transformer brand will be unified with the next generation's highest brand, "Transformers MPG".

MP-60 Ginrai is apparently the final Masterpiece release, with Masterpiece Gattai formally taking over as its successor line.
