All the images are from the Takara display booth over at Chara Hobby.
With these images, we finally confirm that MP-09 is either a Hot-Rod as well as it is Rodimus Convoy.
You can view the original post here.
EDIT: More clear Rodimus Convoy images are available over at Alfes2010's toy blog by clicking here.

And after seeing this, I have no doubt that Hasbro would excise the trailer to keep costs low and still bring it to us, but without the trailer, the toy itself is truly incomplete.
Yes, I realize it's Hot Rod in both vehicle and robot mode, and that the robot mode can replicate the Rodimus look with a few tweaks here and there, and you can market it like that, and people will buy...but...
It's just incomplete without the trailer. If he can't do all of what he was intended to do, then you're doing yourself a disservice by buying a neutered Masterpiece Rodimus.
exactly like mp prime us version was released without trailer in us, mp megatron, & thundercracker, magnus here in us weather hasbro will or ever release thos guys here in us is bigger question & dont give me that lies that someone could mp megatron to rob store anyone thinks mp megatron in gun mode is real is an idiot mp megatron in gun mode 3, 5 times size of human hand ornage barrle or not looking at size of him in gun mode you can tell its fake.
speaking of that who is going to release mp magnue armor to us takara, hasbro, i dont care who could be 3rd partie companies all i care all other mp characters are complete except for magnus & magnus is & was always better leader than rodimus how does he get the short end of deal?

I noticed from the last set of pictures that the robot mode's chest didn't become the Rodimus Prime/space winnebago's hood, so was holding out real hope for the Hot Rod alt more as well. Now we see that the toy's capable of both alt modes, and it seems, a little variation between Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime robot modes as well (I'm guessing a "standing on tippy-toes" action feature)

I think someone pointed at the shoulder articulation too. The kibble in the back seems to interfere with straight forward posing. Hopefully I'm wrong about that.
Still, this looks like an awsome MP. I don't think I'd have liked Hot Rod or Rodimus alone, but as one toy it definately works!
The Rodimus Prime hood is just covered partially by the window. It seems to become the same chest in both modes.

I believe people are hypothesizing that the cab window and hood fold out from under the trailer to fit over top of the actual car hood and roof.

No, they don't. Neither does the front of either vehicle mode and his robot chest plate. Not entirely, anyway. I'm wondering if the two small pieces of bonnet that flank the engine fold away for truck and robot mode.

Great link to the comparisons. The main differences between Hot Rod the robot and Rodimus Prime the robot appear to be the face, perhaps a slight extension at the knees, and an extension at the hips. Maybe a narrowing of the shoulders? Hard to tell that one.
I wonder if he's going to come with a saw fist....

manofsteel2397 wrote:if you look close the window lifts up to go over the engine and the back roof part slides up that is why the spoiler is so far back in rodimus mode to give it the rodimus truck convoy mode
You are mistaken there bruv. The window doesn't cover up a portion of the front of the hot rod vehicle, that is a totaly different front end alltogether, the widow is also a totaly different shape. I see where you are coming from. The parts are so similar that they could be reused, but they have gone all out to make sure the proportions are exact, so that instead of using the front of hot rod, they have a whole other transformation and other parts to make that end up.

no the window is the same the roof slides over the window to shorten it the front bumper transforms some how to give the front end a new look but the middle part of the hood some how folds and the window gets pushed down or lifts over that part of the hood that contains the engine

As posted in a previous thread - here is a possible virtual transformation of the figure: http://jizaitoys.seesaa.net/
Also note worthy is a virtual transformation of Galvatron, which is likely just fanbased - but it does present an interesting concept.

They'd never market him as MP Hot Rod simply because of legal reasons. They no longer own the name Hot Rod. They haven't for some time as far as I'm aware. He'll probably be Rodimus regardless of what form he comes in.
And just out of interest, why would you not want the trailer unit? I know it's not an amazingly exciting piece, but it is part of Rodimus Prime.

It's not that people wouldn't want the trailer. It's that the figure would be cheaper without the trailer. And I don't think he was saying they would call the figure MP Hot Rod. It was just to differentiate between the two. Would they release Rodimus Prime with trailer. Or just the figure that transforms into the Hot Rod Alt mode.

Where did say I didn't want the trailer?
The only reason I'm speculating this is because the Prime trailer never saw the light of day here-could be the case with this this if Hasbro chose to go that route.

1.) Yes, he's both Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime.
2.) To create Rodimus, he extends his legs at both the knees and the thighs, the face changes, the wing tips fold in toward each other a bit, and it looks as though the shoulders move up a tad.
3.) To create Rodimus Prime's vehicle mode, you pull a flap down and around to the front section, from the bottom of the trailer, this is the windshield and hood of Prime's vehicle mode.
You take Hot Rod, rotate his spoiler wing so it's facing backward, and you push him under the trailer, backward.
The hood/windshield piece slides back under Rod's wing and above the Hot Rod vehicle tail (very small space to work with, I think this could be one of the more difficult parts to the transformation), and then snap it in place and you're done. (The holes on Hot Rod's roof is where the Rodimus piece fastens and secures itself.)
So, in case you're wondering: Yes, this Masterpiece figure is both Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime in both vehicle mode and robot mode. To create Rodimus, however, he's basically a shell former with a large cheat to his transformation. Cheat or not, they pulled off a miracle, honestly, and he looks good.
I just want the most affordable price for the guy. I want to order from BBTS, but that $200.00 price tag is pretty high, especially when I see that his price could be around the $150.00 mark.

I'll have to start saving up for him. He's pure awesomesauce.
I like the Hot Rod face better. But the ability to have both is just incredibly cool.
200 does seems little steep, considering you'd have to put shipping costs on top of that, but 150 not too bad.

THE LOWER LEGS LOOK LIKE THEY CHANGE TOO. IF HE WAS SHORTER WITH A YOUNG FACE THAT WOULD MAKE A HOT ROD. THE WHEELS IN THE SHOULDER ARE NOT THE FRONT WHEELS, THE FRONT WHEELS ARE IN HIS LOWER LEGS AS THE SHOLDER PORTION IS ONE PIECE, LOOK AT THE VEHICLE MODE THERE IS CLEARLY A SPLIT JUST AFTER THE FRONT WHEEL ARCH. AND THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE MODE IS ON HS BACK. SO THE SECOND SET OF WHEELS ARE EITHER FOR DECORATION - OR A HOT ROD VEHICLE MODE.
THANK YOU FOR THE CLARIFICATION!!!!
Sorry, anytime I see all caps it makes me think someone is yelling in frustration. I'll be very interested to see more pictures and see if he turns out to be a triple/quad changer.
Maybe he suffers from the typing equivalent of Van Horton's Syndrome.
No, actually I was starting to get to the same point of frustration as well. I'm sure by now someone else has already said it but I just don't have the time to go through all the pages of posts to confirm that it was said, but I'll not only say that I agree with Convotron's summation but also add, for those that think the spoiler issue is a mis-transformation, it is necessary to slide it that far back as it locks into the trailer portion. The necessary points for it to connect can be seen in the prototype pics. if you get your orientation correct on how things are placed, and having the spoiler raise and slide backwards is part of how they chose to connect his components.
Piss-poor design choice if you ask me but hey, it's Hasbro. If it wasn't a design issue then they were going to have to come up with some other way of making this figure not quite right and they would have gotten WAY to much heat from the fans if they had chosen to screw up the paint job instead.

I figure when he is Hot Rod, he can interact with my MP-04 prime. When he is Rodimus, he can interact with PP01 Optimus. That is how I can pretend his Rodimus bot mode is indeed much larger.
What do you all think? I don't have PP01, but it looks like now I may have to get one.

The front wheels are from rodimus legs hot rods car mode is from the wheels in the shoulder, the front of hot rods car is made from the chest, Hot rods vehicle mode is facing back to front in the trailer. The front bumper is not the same bumper. and the window is shorter, and the side panels are thin on hot rods vehicle and taller in rodimus's vehicle, they are clearly different pieces.
The back wheel arch from HRs car mode makes the front wheel arch for RPs cab, as there is a verticle slit which HRs torbos fold over to make the back of the car, and RPs bumper folds over to make the front of the cab. HRs shoulder have a angled slit and RPs front wheel arches don't have the angled slit they have the verticle slit. HRs front wheel arches have the diagobnal slit so they are not the same arch. Which means that the front umper would not be able to connect to the arches that are at the front of RPs cab mode.
