Also....( a little off topic) i personally am a fan of the new open hand trend going on right now and i think these photos highlight the new hand design style nicely. They give Grappel in the last photo, an enhanced sense of motion.

No real use or purpose?! You, sir, have clearly never been hit over the head with a crane before. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I have either, but I bet it does a heap of damage.
I to am a little worried about exactly what he's doing to Inferno. Noticed he's missing an arm. Kinky!! I'd ideally like to see Reveal The Shield and United Grappel/Grapple together to see if there's a sizable difference in the yellows used.

To yellow or not and even with or without being able to detach his crane, this new version of my first ever TF is so bought when it comes out over here.

As for his name, is it confirmed that he is Grappel? We know that's what it says on the box, but couldn't it have been a typo?

This. If Hasbro doesn't have the rights to the name to the point where they have to misspell it, why add Solar Storm to the front? Still think it was a preproduction box with an error.
I'm disappointed in this figure. In some senses, he's great. But the paint apps (of lack of) don't match that of Inferno and look bland in most places.

I bet you say that to all the boys.
I like the yellow. I had the Constructicons in yellow as a kid and I still have a massive soft spot for them in yellow now. I like Grapple in this colour.

Why in Chinese does it say "brotherhood" over this image? Perhaps he is helping his injured comrade
but seriously if the crane could go on his back and that yellow box thingy o his head like in the original then it would be must buy.... I smell Kitbash

I think it's dettachable, if it's the same peg where the hose/gun is placed in the Inferno figure, which you have to de-attach in order to place there the Inferno ladder from the TFC's Gear of War set.
That's very likely, however it will cause that joint to loosen over time. I have Inferno and the ladder, and I try to remove it as seldom as possible.
Despite the fact that it could use a few more paint apps, it's a good-looking toy. I'll have to try really hard not to pick this guy up.
