In this new update, which is totally not another leak, we have some more Dinobot imagery (in addition to the first official stock images we first saw back here) for Deluxes Slug and Swoop, plus Legends Slash in package, and fellow Legend class Beachcomber and Windcharger too. They're followed by some additional leader class Optimus and Rodimus in various poses and for both the evolved modes and the deluxe-ish Orion Pax and Hot Rod, plus including Prime Masters and collector cards. Check them all out below, and join the conversation in the Energon Pub!

1. Why could they not make Optimus Prime's hands BLUE? Seriously? SERIOUSLY?? lol..
2. Why is Rodimus Prime's Spoiler Wing so DINKY? REALLY??
3. This just makes me sad about Grimlock, BUT for the price points that they'll be... I guess it's the best of what we've seen so far. Although I'm sure Takara will put out superior decos on all of the toys so I'll maybe wait for those ones... Although I'll probably get Hasbro's Shattered Glass Rodimus

The more I see images of this Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime, the more I continue to grow enamored with him & want Santa to help him get to my house this holiday He is so close to what I would call a Perfect Rodimus that I can easily forgive the loss of the Battle Trailer the original had!
I am also looking forward to Slash, if only to have just as many Dinobots as I do Protectobots for a head-to-head battle royale

I'm not sure: will they be better once in hand?
Posted by Stuartmaximus on November 6th, 2017 @ 3:31pm CST
Optimus looks ok I guess
& I'll probably hold off and get Rodimus Unicronus
& for the rest...i'll wait n see the Takara repaints ect, before I decide on those

Beachcomber and Slash are must buys
Rodimus is a different story however. While I appreciate the guns due to their faithfulness to the source material and they can still combine for Roddy the combined figure in bot mode leaves a lot to be desired with those unsightly gaps in the arms.

As for Rodimus, they took cues from Fansproject's Protector 100% as far as vehicle mode, but that Robot mode...no.
As for Optimus Im buying it only for the Orion Pax inner robot as well as I am buying Rodimus for the inner Hot Rod. This will be a hit/miss line for me. I will cautiously watch how the Takara paint jobs will roll out.

It's because this is the mainpic of his Wiki page:
Which leads me to another realization. With Swoop having a blue chest and a black helmet, not only does that make his deco accurate to neither the original toy nor the cartoon, but it also winds up making him coincidentally similar to the most unexpected of Swoop decos: The deco of Energon Swoop.

So I have to ask, if you're so against Omega Supreme breaking up into a bunch of different parts then why are you OK with the Energon figure? Sure, it can be turned into a single train, but not without removing the head and splitting the figure into a battleship and construction-thing first.
I think it is possible to make a convincing G1-style Omega that can break down into his three core parts without the tiny parts. For example they could have the forearms not separate from the upper arms and shoulders (and therefore not being part of the tank) and have both the left and right sides connected through a part that runs through the torso. The whole thing then can collapse inside the forearms creating a single cohesive rocket. The rest I'm sure can be worked out with enough swing arms and pivots to get everything where it needs to be without being disconnected. I don't really see a problem with the tracks being removed, but I think there's a work around.
On a side note, there was a comment about Scorponok having a scorpion backpack.
Uh, what? It's just the tail and legs and they aren't even obtrusive.

It was in the leaks for wave 3 (along with Cindersaur, a repaint of Slash), but it was just a brown Brawn. Hopefully that was just an early moc up and the final figure will have a new head, it would be weird if that mold only had one head tied to it.

I'm pretty sure it was a mockup like most of post Wave 2. Shame though, I wanted Rollbar to complement Roadburn.

It was more of an example than anything else, I've never owned any version of that toy. Although being a headmaster with a split-down-the-middle combination is much less partsformery than torso, legs, wings, and arms all breaking off and reassembling into a new configuration with minimal actual transformation. (granted, Energon Omega didn't do a whole lot either but he had the benefit of looking like he turned into somethings)

Yeah, the rocket arms could be a single piece, similar to how GaoGaiGar's arms work with the train going through the lion torso (although sans-different parts for the gauntlets). I had considered that. All in all though, I'm just really not a fan of G1 Omega's alt mode. I can't find the right words for it but it does nothing for me, and while he has a pretty iconic robot mode, I'm okay with adjustments being made to it to accommodate a more modern alt mode. WFC rode that line pretty well, I think.
Emerje wrote:On a side note, there was a comment about Scorponok having a scorpion backpack.

Oh, I meant the other way around. The Scorpion mode has a giant backpack made of the robot's legs.
So as far as this line is concerned, I'm so far only dead set on the terrorcons, and even then I wish they'd modernized their alt modes a bit like the Beast Hunters figures. And Predaking, but that's a given. I might get that Optimus Prime to go with my Combiner Wars Megatron, and I'll get most of the fembots, but while I like the general concepts of this line, most of the characters aren't really of interest to me. Pretenders are gonna be good though.

There was another example that I couldn't quite remember, but it just hit me now, Tripredicus.
There's a bar that runs through Cicadacon that connects the two halves of Ramhorn together.
Ah, I see. He wasn't really meant to represent a real scorpion, more like a tank shaped like a scorpion. Instead of his tail being made to strike it's a laser. It would have been neat if they could have found another use for the legs like sticking canons in the bottom of his feat, but I suppose they still thought of this as a mobile fortress mode similar to Metroplex and Fort Max.

Do the regular Matrix crystals themselves unfold into little robots?

No, the Matrix(s) don't turn into robots, neither do the enigmas that come with the combiner voyagers. The only ones that turn into robots are the Prime Masters sold on their own.

You know, as much as this make sense it makes me a bit sad. That said, do the Matrix and Enigma still have the shape to plug into a neck? Because as dumb as it may (and will) look I....really want to do it just to amuse myself.
By the way, what are the odds that we'll see Bomb-Burst and/or Waveride? Because, oh man, its something which I've said before but it just seem so damn wrong if we can't get these pair of trio completed, especially given they were all major characters in Masterforce. Hell we even got Metalhawk as a pretender shell decoy suit in PotP so it just seem to me we really should get ought to get something to complete these teams. That said, I'm told the (sadly cancelled) Grand Maximus pretender shell is apparently Waveride. So there is hope.

It's the ghost Starscream head that comes with Octane.

Yes, but they lack a joint there so if you use it as a head you won't be able to turn it, unless it's a Voyager or Leader that doesn't use the peg as a neck.

No no, you misunderstood. The Prime Masters will have head articulation, due to being based on Titan Masters. It's the Matrix Cores and Enigmas that are solid pieces.

Prime Masters have necks, it's the Enigmas and Matrices (apparently that's the plural of matrix ) that don't have them.

Going by the way Hasbro has been planning things lately, this seemed like the most logical way they could release a full set of G1-style Dinobots in a single toyline with the added bonus of using their engineering for future figures no less.

I'm kind of hoping we see Classic Pretenders as Prime Masters around Wave 5. Might be a BIT weird with all of them except Bumblebee appearing elsewhere in the line. Then again, Hasbro could always pull a cheat and make the Classic Homages Goldfire, Meister, Clobber, and Nightscream.
There's a lot of redeco potential. Ricochet feels like a TT or con exclusive. Artfire as well. Could make use of the TT Targetmasters.
It's hard to say what Leaders if any we can expect for the later waves. I think Star Saber is very much desired and I'd probably buy into an Ultra Magnus. It would be extra funny for him to have an original White Prime "normal mode" robot that has never been used for an Optimus. I know, I know, 3rd Party has done it first and Hasbro tends to do more IDW stuff like Minimus Ambus. But if ever a line called for a White Prime Magnus...
I think we can make educated guesses from the Leader poll that many of those characters will be up for updates in the near future, either PotP or beyond.
That suggests Ultra Magnus, Star Saber, Arcee, Hound, and Thunderwing.
I'll go out on a limb and speculate Magnus with a Nemesis Prime re-deco in wave 6 (I'd really love for them to avoid an Optimus despite having a Deluxe inner bot that looks like Optimus) and Star Saber as Leaders. Thunderwing seems plausible as a third tooling of Voyager Starscream.
Arcee seems most likely to sit out this round unless Hasbro is really eager to make her as a limb for Elita-1 so we can have an all fembot combiner. Could work as a Moonracer retool.
Shockwave feels like one whose time has come as a Voyager.
Hound feels least likely since we have him as a Deluxe from Combiner Wars who works as a limb for PotP figures. (I do feel like Jazz as a limb and Inferno as a torso is part of a larger push to have all the '84/'85 bots as combiners between this and CW.) There's not really a way to do a Prime Master Hound. A Voyager would feel weird. Maybe as a Legends scale figure in late waves. I think Hound would be best off sitting this line out.
Posted by RodimusRex on November 9th, 2017 @ 2:58am CST
If we get an Arcee from Moonracer (the first mass retail Arcee is five or so years old by that point) and we get a Wreck-Gar from Groove, we could be headed towards an '86 movie combiner, which might make certain unorthodox things tempting like a Voyager Magnus or another Kup and Blurr.
EDIT: Or a Springer heavily retooled from Alpha Bravo.
