I believe I will go for both Hasbro's and Takara's Dev. I'm having a hard time fighting the devil on my shoulder on this one. I'm just going to bite the bullet and spend the cash. Cop Hasbro now, recover, then get Takara. Takara releases later anyway right?
Sorry for all the ignorance fam. 37 yr G1 fan but only jumped in the game at Combiner Wars.
Deep down, I knew I was going to get 2 of this guy. So much for budgeting...

still at $158 with 2 day shipping, I can live with that. 6 Voyagers at $25 a pop comes out right there, and tax on each would have been a lot more.

Welcome And we dont know the date for Takara's Devy yet. It is assumed end of year but there is no confirmation. By the way, I think you made the right choice in the Devys you are getting.

william-james88 wrote:We dont know how much Takara's will be and I would be really surprised if he would cost more than the SDCC version when released at amiami or HLJ (especially considering that Superion and Menasor sell for the same MSRP price as Hasbro's versions).
Whoa, wait a minute, they don't sell for the same MSRP price. The price you've been quoting comes from a 30% discount, something Japanese retailers are willing to do for figures they know will sell well while American retailers are more likely to be greedy and raise the price.
Here's the actual MSRP comparison:
Takara Menasor (four Deluxe @ US$16.99 x4, one Voyager @ US$24.99) - US$92.95
Takara Tomy Menasor - ¥15,000 / US$121.39
That's nearly a US$30 difference between MSRP. Granted, you won't be paying that on AmiAmi, HLJ, or Hobby Search, but there's no guarantee on how deep the discount will be on Devastator. Could be 15%, could be 20%. (BTW, AmiAmi's MSRP is the taxed MSRP while HLJ and HS use the untaxed MSRP since we aren't charged sales tax. The old Tokyo sales tax was 5% so AmiAmi is accustomed to adding that to the real discount so it's really 25% off which is still a lot.)
Maybe a better comparison would be Metroplex as I assume Takara will be selling Devastator as the same price class like Hasbro.
Hasbro Metroplex - US$124.99
Takara Tomy Metroplex - ¥19,000 / US$153.98 (today) / US$192.25 (Sept 2013).
There's that US$30~ difference again. With that we might be able to predict the Japanese MSRP on Devastator at US$179.99 or around ¥22,300, but with 25% off it's ¥16,725 or US$135. Factor in 3 day shipping and you're still paying less that the SDCC price (which to be totally honest I find to be super ugly).
Yeah, that was a long way of saying we might actually be paying less for Takara Tomy's upgraded Devatator, but I hope we all learned something about Japanese pricing.

Taxes are annoying, How do you think you'll do with shipping? I noticed that Amazon is offering free shipping with this beast... I have yet to see any price limit that BBTS does that
I got excited about the $10 off too but now I'm not sure which way is cheaper.

Taxes are $13.50-ish from Amazon for me in CA. However, I use the BBTS "Pile of Loot" to lump my products into a single shipment, and since I already order other stuff from BBTS that's not on Amazon (Fan Toys sucked me in and I get my Masterpiece figs from BBTS, plus now I preorder my CW limbs on there since they arrive sooner) then for me the shipping cost is minimally incremental.
I HIGHLY recommend Pile of Loot if you end up doing multiple orders throughout the year from BBTS and lumping them into a quarterly (or less frequent) delivery. Currently I have a 2nd Masterpiece Optimus MP-10 in my loot bucket waiting for me, and a Fan Toys Sever (Snarl) on the way in a couple weeks or so.

luks0r, I'm in the same boot as you. Amazon 149 + $13 Cali tax is no bueno. bbts 139 + $7 shipping and no tax. Had to switch orders to bbts. I've always purchased from them anyways and they are steller.

I actually considered applying when Seibertron was looking for writers recently, but I'm already pretty busy thanks to my real job and my writing job (which pays me in review samples and occasionally money) so I decided against it.
happylock wrote:I pre-ordered mine from bbts. I dont have amazon prime so I dont get the free shipping. You don't need Prime to get free shipping on this (assuming you live in the US, Mexico, or Singapore), at its price the shipping will be free for non Prime members.

This happens with the stores by me. It's the individual department managers discretion on what to order and how much. If they don't think something will sell they won't order it. Stock sits they're responsible.

nah, Hasbro AU has apparently been shifting warehouses, it's why we've had such a limited release of Wave 2 CW's as well.
Given he ended up on Page 30 of their big toy sale catalogue, I think it's safe to say Big W were placing more faith in Minions stuff shifting than Transformers.

My local obviously has little love for Transformers, yes we got a handful of Devies luckily but our entire TF section is 2 feet wide, oh and behind a 2 1/2 foot wide concrete pylon.

Just looked at the photos from the news page, and I definitely do not like how some of the purple sections of the figures are metallic and some are not.
I get they may have more articulation, but for me, looks trumps that.
The metallic purple sections being literally right next to the non-metallic purple sections just doesn't work for me.
I also don't need Devastators chest piece to be metallic either.

Yeah, they dont have more articulation, its the same as the standard version, just with some chrome and a different head. I am definitely not a fan. The ultimate version of this toy is clearly the takara version and I can guarantee that the takara version will be a hotter commodity than the SDCC one. To be totally honest, the only market interested in that SDCC Devy are the completionists or collectors of exclusive toys. And even then, they would be getting it for the sake of the collection, not because they love it. All this is based on the feedback all versions have gotten so far from fans.
I really feel that SDCC version is a failure since the added cost doesnt give the collector as much as another version. I would like to know who out there actually prefers this one over the other versions because I just dont see it.

I prefer the SDCC version to the other two. I'm a fan of the vac metal pieces and the metallic shine of the rest of the purple. Plus this version undoubtedly has better paint apps than the other two. I couldn't care less about the whole elbow thing since he will be displayed in combined mode 99.99% of the time. Plus it only costs $20 more than the regular retail release.
Posted by shajaki on June 28th, 2015 @ 8:59am CDT
I'm with you. Out of the three, the SDCC version is my favourite. Remolded elbows are dope, but if I'm just being honest with myself I can admit that at the end of the day they'll be Combined 97% of the time, so added articulation in the individual bots is kinda moot.
However, I'll be getting TT's because he'll be cheaper than the aftermarket price of SDCC's. *shrug*

I'm going to try to get him from HTS, I know it's going to be a crap shoot but I have faith that with the dwindling admiration of it I'll have a semi decent chance at grabbing one.

I'm with Shajaki, although I personally think the TT version is the best looking. I was considering taking the easy route and just buying the hasbro version, but after seeing all the cool stuff takara's comes with, (like the guns that will be lended to other figures in need) I might just go for the high end. The only thing is, how much do you reckon the behemoth will be with shipping? I imagine he's gonna be pricy, despite being less than the SDCC aftermarket.
Posted by william-james88 on June 28th, 2015 @ 10:48am CDT
Just a heads up though to those who say that the reason why Takara's is not benefitting to the combined mode, Takara does have a retractable visor which makes you able to alternate between the standard look from the Hasbro retail version, and the look from the SDCC version.
ALSO, here is a post I found on Talk Transformers facebook for the australians out there:
BEWARE OF THIS SCALPER ON EBAY!
---------------------------------------------------
Devastator came out in Australian Big W stores on Thursday and was instantly sold out. This low-life managed to buy EIGHT of them and is attempting to scalp seven of them for AU$330 each (even though he only paid AU$200 each). I strongly advise that you do _NOT_ purchase anything from him or any other scalper.
Remember that every time someone buys a toy at an inflated price from a scalper, you are supporting their despicable practice and encouraging them to do it again. Help fight scalpers by NOT buying from them and drive them out of business!
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?siteid=0&pub=5574891718&campid=5336631220&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com.au%2Fitm%2F361329629645%3F
I'm so glad I don't use eBay! smile emoticon But how funny would it be if nobody bought them, leaving him $1400 out of pocket (or forcing him to just sell them for $200 each :p)
BE PATIENT! Most stores _will_ restock. Big W's computer system indicates that most stores are waiting on an order for 8-12 units per store. Here is a list of Big W stores which are _NOT_ awaiting restock (so don't bother trying them):

Anyway, in other news, I received my phone call this morning, went into Big W and put him on lay-by. The temptation to by him outright was great, but then common sense kicked in. I need to pay rent before I buy toys.
