We've got in-package images of the latest Masterpiece figure to make it's way onto the shores of North America. To be released in August 2010 as a Toys R' Us exclusive, 反冲 of ACToys.net shares with us Masterpiece Grimlock. Unlike Takara's first release of Masterpiece Grimlock, Hasbro's version is much more similar to MP-08X King Grimlock. If his enormous stature and standalone display ability aren't enough, Masterpiece Grimlock comes with colour changing eyes, his crown, and a menacing sword and blaster. Feel free to check out the images and Grimlock's biography below!

Looks awesome enough just to display him inside the box as well.
I already have the original Takara-Tomy version, but I wouldn't mind get this guy a second time again, for that price. So I could have him in both his modes.

It'll be my 3rd MP Grimmie, but I'm okay with that.

I love this pic (anybody knows where a full version may be found?) and the bio too

Hope the quality is good given the price difference with the Tak/Tomy release. $100+ price tag would be more than too much for North America to swallow. That was the reason why we got plastic Alternators instead of metal Binaltech.

Back to the figure though, it looks great and I'm SOOOO glad I didn't buy the Takara release. Bought on sight for me.

Plus, if your TRU is anything like mine....if they don't have the room or can't accommodate it, it won't hit the shelves until they do.
Or, they'll put it on a shelf in another department, which will make it next to impossible to find.

SDCC is around the end of July, the 22nd or something.

Now I just have to keep my girlfriend out of the toy stores for the next few months so she doesn't discover she could've bought me the same toy for $170 less than she paid...

Why not do the decent thing and let her return it and buy you the Hasbro version?
I mean, that's a LOT of money, and it just seems...not right.

Yes, I think they are better. They are easier to cut, and they do not seem to have the scratching ability on a figure that the others may have had.

No, no, no. He was saying that MP TC should be made for domestic release. It is not planned to be released as yet.

Yeah thats what I meant...I wasnt trying to start a rumor LOL. But seeing as how they decided to put this guy out I think Hasbro will most likely release Thundercracker to complete the trio as Wal-Mart Exclusives. Out here in Miami, Starscream sold like wildfire. I never even saw one on the shelves. I was lucky my homie picked me up one and hours later the rest were gone when I got out of work. (I wanted 2) Skywarp did pretty well too. There were a few sitting around for a while, but it was produced in a much larger scale then Starscream. This happens with all the more expensive figures. MP Issues, Unicron, Devastator, etc. But back on topic, Ill be waiting to pick up a Grimlock whenever he comes out

Still top want of the year. Forget the Star wars big AT-AT, forget LC Starscream. Me Grimlock MASTERPIECE series!!!! Me smash Starscream and AT-AT!!!!!!!
hopefully the TRU booth has cool swag when i get this guy. Dunno how long TRU's been around but it took 40 yrs. of SDComic-con for them to decide to get a booth finally?? Geoffrey must hate traveling. Not even to see his family at the San Diego Zoo.

It was a Christmas gift. We also can't return an opened toy, and I'm sure the hobby store we got it from doesn't do returns anyway. We usually spend quite a bit of money on each other at Christmas time, she'd probably just be annoyed to find out that it got released for much cheaper later on. She was going to buy me a PS3 if she couldn't get Grimlock, so she would've spent the same amount either way.

TurbofireJames wrote:I have the takara version (like it). Is this worth purchasing as well? Does an American release justify a purchase of a figure you already own (in general)?
Not for me. I generally don't buy duplicates of figures unless there's a significant enough difference to warrant a second purchase. For example, Henkei Megatron was definitely worth it, even though I already had the Classics one. But MP Grimlock, no, because the only big difference is the inclusion of the crown instead of the Takara version's accessories.

And what about the additional $25 saved? The Takara one was $145 + shipping...unfortunately I know first hand. So much for this thing never being only $60 over here...
