The Hasbro version appears to use lighter colored plastics in general, comes with a blue roller, Spike has some alternate paint on his sleeves and painted pupils, etc.

50 Shades of Optimus.
Like always, I disagree with robofreak. Definitely prefer Takara's darker blue.

I like each one for different reasons. Light blue is nice for the cartoon accuracy. Dark blue hearkens not only to the show models over time, but also the dark blue of the G1 toy.
With this one being $150 cheaper than the original, I will have to go with this one though.
MP-04 is still my favorite

And that's why I didn't get the Takara release (like I normally do with my MP's).
Would definitely prefer Takara but I might have to face facts, I have a mortgage.
Though another reason I didn't get the initial Takara release was to hold out for a hopeful Ultra Magnus set.

Although I do prefer the colors on the Takara edition, I don't think the Hasbro versions colors are bad. And at their relative price points I'll definitely be picking up the Hasbro version as soon as I can find it.

Also noticed that the packaging mentions Hasbro Canada on it. Which means this was probably meant for stores in Canada. Probably Toys R Us since they don't really care so much about the French language laws and I don't see any French on the packaging. So where the heck is this figure?! I want my MP-10, damn it!
Posted by -Kanrabat- on July 23rd, 2012 @ 5:47pm CDT
HASBRO CANADA LONGUEUIL QUÉBEC MADE IN VIETNAM FABRIQUÉ EN VIETNAM.
I bet my lest nut that the asswipes at Toys R Us will never have it in Québec stores because there's not enough french on the box.
Seriously.

Can someone explain to me why Hasbro does this crap? I can understand cutting back on the silver or any shiny color app, but altering tones to intentionally make them look different? Sigh.. annoying.

Man, you don't know how much I want that statement to be real!
I'm thinking, maybe I should purchase Hasbro Prime (in addition to my current MP10). Once TTomy release an armor MP UMagnus, then the Hasbro Prime can serve as the inner core of the armor fighting along side with the TTomy white robot Magnus. Then my dream display will be completed :

I'll be skipping this one from Hasbro. I do like how they painted the lights on top yellow though. I may have to do the same on my MP-10 .

I think perhaps, in this case, they've gone for comic colours.Dre Merc wrote:Can someone explain to me why Hasbro does this crap? I can understand cutting back on the silver or any shiny color app, but altering tones to intentionally make them look different? Sigh.. annoying.
I'm glad I got the Takara version.

Though I kind of not like the washed out colors.....looks a bit on the cheap(maybe the reason for the price difference?) like the infamous G1 anniversary version released a few years ago by Hasbro or better yet, like the MP-01 mold DVD version.

I think I would actually shed tears of joy if the rumors come true about the Magnus armor. Idc if they charge $300 if it's done right and I would die happy if they released mp wheeljack

Well, comparing the two...
I like the shade of red of the Hasbro version, but the shade of blue of the Takara version.
I like the bright optics of the Hasbro version, but the lemon shade of yellow of the Takara version.
I like the shiny trailer of the Hasbro version, but the silver Roller of the Takara version.
I like the better-painted Spike of the Hasbro version, but the dimmer shade of gray of the Takara version.
But, the deciding factor:
Yeah, I'll have ill choice but to get the Hasbro version.Gauntlet101010 wrote:I prefer the colors of the Takara version.
I prefer the price of the Hasbro version.
Though, the differing shades of blue reminds me of the light blue variant of G1 Optimus Prime from back in the 80's.
But, then again, these pictures seem kinda low quality. What we need is a full blown Seibertron.com Toy Gallery to give a toy comparison between these two the proper justice they deserve. I'm sure there's one coming down the line, but just sayin'.

Buy both!
I open the Takara versions and put them on display, and keep the Hasbro versions MISB. The Hasbro versions - Grimlock, Rodimus, and now Prime - come in the nice windowed boxes for easy display. The Takara versions, on the other hand, come in black, not quite-so-attractive boxes.
Stop looking at me like that...

I can probably deal with the lighter colors, but the painted-over eyes are what's kind of killing it for me. I really prefer the transparent jeweled look of the Takara version.
Still, I'll reserve final judgement for when I see a better gallery or in person. And it's not like I can afford the Takara version anyway...
I guess he still looks good in the SDCC gallery:
Maybe it's just the lighting in this one.
Posted by noctorro on July 24th, 2012 @ 1:43am CDT
I like the Hasbro paint better, cuz I love cartoon accuracy.
I think I'll go for the hasbro one, SDCC Bruticus has made me near homeless. My gawd, ebay........ Next year I'll be @ Santiago my self!
Posted by Banjo-Tron on July 24th, 2012 @ 3:13am CDT
I prefer the lighter blue in the alt mode, and the darker blue in the 'bot mode. Spike is much better. I said I wouldn't buy this, but if it makes it to the UK< it will be very difficult not to! I still think that in alt mode, the legs look way too thick.

A couple of cheap and simple fix, squint your eyes when you look at the Hasbro version to cut down on the the light you let into your eyes OR stand the figure in a shadow. Sorted.
