Fellow Seibertronian Cyberpath has alerted us to the Loopaza Mega Store Facebook page - as reported in this other news story - as their Figure King scans bring us a detail concerning Takara Tomy Transformers MP36 Megatron, and specifically, the fusion cannon: no lights, sounds only! Check out more info and the image below.

There is also a notice that the last month coverage about MP36 Megatron have some error. The Fusion Cannon DO NOT have any light gimmick but sounds only. There is 3 patterns and about 9 different type of sound effect with the Fusion Cannon including transforming sounds, the class speech lines and the Fusion Cannon sounds etc.

A talking cannon. Now Megatron can literally converse with his arm-mounted weapon. :P

Alternatively:

A talking cannon. Now Megatron has his own mode-locked Targetmaster! :P

Oh that's cool. While I don't expect to get this awesome figure for free, I was wondering what that crazy price tag was about.

Sound effects, voice clips but no lights. Acceptable.

I'm guessing any speech won't be from the English cartoon.

Although, with Seizō Katō having passed away back in 2014, the voice clips will probably be recycled from preexisting sources rather than newly-recorded lines.

I don't like it. Seems cheesy to me. And everyone has a computer or a smartphone to play sounds. If Takara must put a gimmick in the fusion cannon I prefer lights. At least it has a photographic value. (And is kind of fun.)

Image

It doesn't seem to interfere with the look of the figure though.

Also, I hope that the placement of the gun barrel on his back isn't off because of another unnecessary gimmick.

Figure's looks > gimmicks.

But Prime is the same price tag and he doesnt have any electronics. I dont think its related. Its just a price point figures of that class share.

Megatron (24,840 JPY) costs more than Optimus (23,760 JPY), most likely because of the electronics. Just look at what electronics did to Shockwave's price, he's a pretty simple MP, but costs way more than similar sized figures.

Shockwave - 18,144 JPY
Coronation Starscream reissue - 14,040 JPY
Soundwave reissue - 17,064 JPY
Ironhide - 10,800 JPY
Inferno - 15,120 JPY
Optimus Primal - 12,960 JPY

As you can see they also don't really adhere to price points either.

But can we really assume its electronics and not the parts count? Also, I still find that Shockwave price quite high. As you already assessed, I keep being really surprised electronics cost that much.

Those releases with voice clips like Fortmax and G1 Glvatron., those were voice clips from the original show and not new lines.

Hell would probably freeze over first if Takara would use Frank Welker's voice clips (though selling one as an exclusive in Japan would be every JP or English speaking G1 fan's wet dream!

What about other Takara toys with voice clips? Like the old purple reissue of G1 Galvatron, or the Galvatron II toy? Or the two giant-sized Adventure Optimus toys?

The G1 Galvatron toy I mentioned, I meant the purple people eater version. The original 1986 ver just has those peew peew sounds. TL Fortress, I know those voice clips are canned from the original show, same with the TAV ( though for that I can only attest to the 1st bell bottom version which I own ).

Or wait, what about the Kenzan, Gekisoumaru, and Optimus ExPrime toys' clips from the Go! line? Didn't that Optimus toy come out before he appeared in that form in that cartoon?

The cartoon is part/extension of the product advertisement. So it's not surprising that the product will incorporate some aspects of the show i.e the voice/S.E. gimmicks. Far back in 1987/88, Masterforce packaging used a lot of animation images in their packaging..........again, an extension of the advertisement of the product.

So what's the issue you are positing? then? Newly recorded sound clips or canned archived sound clips from the show?

I'm asking if Takara has ever released any TF toy whose clips were recorded specifically for the toy either before or instead of for the toy's corresponding cartoon.

Nerdgasm/wetdream if ever Takara considers incorporating Frank Welker's voice clips for MP-36:

"I would have waited an eternity for this"

"Its over Prime"

"I belong to nobody!"

"Decepticons.Scramble!"

"You're an idiot Starscream"

"You full Starscream!"

"Why throw away your life so recklessly Optimus Prime"

That line he said in Sherman Dam when he used that energon morning star of his. :x

If that's the case, I cannot speak for Beastwars or HB versions of voice clip capable releases as my collection of them won't run way beyond my 8 fingers (thumbs not included 8-} ) So for G1, you can technically say the G1 Galvatron re-issue did get the voice clip specifically for him, plus or minus a few years after.

What I know is, for Takara they use actual voice clips from the show. For Hb, I know DVD MP Prime didn't use Peter Cullen. I used to own Hb RID aka Fire Convoy, not sure if it was actually Neil Kaplan's voice I heard when he shouted "Optimus Prime Maximize!" or RID UM is it was really the English voice actor).

Voice clip cannon? Shame this figure will never be released in North America. It's be cool to have Welker lines in a toy. To the best of recollection there's been Cullen lines in several toys, Classics reissue G1 Prime, movie helmet, and movie leader toys spring to mind. But I can't recall there being any toys with Welker proving the voice.

More than likely it will be clips of Seizō Katō's G1 Megatron taken from the Japanese dub of the G1 cartoon.

Just wanted all who are in the US and are considering ordering from anime-export (cheapest so far, I believe) to know that I inquired about including the orange plug. Here's Aiko Matsumoto's response (*name changed to protect the innocent):

Hello SpaceKaseJase*,

we can do this service for free, however we will have to open the box and transform it to gun. It will be up to each customers to choose.

Best regards

It sounds like they thought you were asking them to put an orange plug on the barrel rather than asking if they were legally obligated to do so for every figure.

Perhaps--so long as they do it so it can pass US customs (the end justifies the means after all). Since they consider this a "free service", one is led to believe they understand the US customs situation and are willing to comply. I guess maybe it doesn't need it since it will most likely be packaged in bot mode, but I don't want to take any chances. I just ordered it. I do NOT want to pay local prices for Megs.

But the answer suggests they don't consider themselves legally obligated to do so, being based in Japan. The one doing the actual importing is the one legally responsible, be it the customer or US-based importing companies.
It is good to see that they're offering the service, for free no less, and explaining it comes at the cost of no longer having a MISB item. On the flipside, it seems you have to personally request it as it doesn't seem to be a standard option.

I see your point. I was under the impression any toy that resembles a gun and does not have an orange "safety plug", can be confiscated by customs. Sounds like any US company that imports toy weapons are obligated to put these plugs in, but since I'm ordering out of the country, I won't need it. I guess I need to find someone who has been in this situation before to verify. Again, hate to find out the hard way. Guess I'll inquire again. Appreciate the input.

so they are going to open it and transform it into a gun? umm thats gonna get caught easier.
you have the risk of them breaking it while its being transformed.
what are they gonna package it in after they transform it into a gun.
just some thoughts :-D

Yeah, that didn't make sense to me either. Why not insert the plug while in bot form? I just emailed them to clarify if they are obligated to use the plug before shipping to US. Guess my biggest concern is me spending $175 and never getting Megs because it won't pass customs. :(

If you're based in the US, you do need it as you're the one doing the importing from the legal point of view. If you're based elsewhere, ask your local customs office.
The U.S. is relatively mild, places like some European countries outright ban bringing in replica guns of any kind, especially from the Eastern side (they warn you of that at the airports in the Netherlands). Australia is one of the worst, requiring a special license for even importing them!

So here's the copy of the law. Getting kind of worried. Even if anime-export offers this service, there's no way of knowing it will be the correct color of orange, whether it is the right size, or if it will be permanent:

"§ 1150.2 Prohibitions. No person shall manufacture, enter into commerce, ship, transport, or receive any toy, look-alike, or imitation firearm (††device††) covered by this part as set forth in § 1150.1 of this part unless such device contains, or has affixed to it, one of the markings set forth in § 1150.3 of this part.

§ 1150.3 Approved markings. The following markings are approved by the Secretary of Commerce: (a) A blaze orange (Federal Standard 595a, February, 1987, color number 12199, issued by the General Services Administration) or orange color brighter than that specified by the federal standard color number, solid plug permanently affixed to the muzzle end of the barrel as an integral part of the entire device and recessed no more than 6 millimeters from the muzzle end of the barrel.

(b) A blaze orange (Federal Standard 595a, February, 1987, color number 12199, issued by the General Services Administration) or orange color brighter than that specified by the Federal Standard color number, marking permanently affixed to the exterior surface of the barrel, covering the circumference of the barrel from the muzzle end for a depth of at least 6 millimeters."

It all depends first if Takara will ship him in robot or gun mode. And if you're finicky with the MISB thing. If 'bot mode and you want to err on caution, have it orange plug (just tell them to use Elmer's glue (water based) so customs won't call it a WMD). If you're from down under, do the Burn route.

That's so funny! I was thinking about the Elmer's glue thing earlier today! If history proves anything, Takara will probably package in robot form. I sent another message to anime-export asking if their service complies with the law. I'm in the US, btw.

i dont see what the worry is. like wj said they arent gonna have time to go and search through them all.
they just do an x-ray scan and done. but who knows. if they ship it in gun mode that would most definetly be found. What happened when mp-05 was shipped was there any problems. besides australia and a few other places.

they just do an x-ray scan and done. but who knows. if they ship it in gun mode that would most definetly be found. What happened when mp-05 was shipped was there any problems. besides australia and a few other places.

He got banned from EBay. No kidding. Otherwise no real reports elsewhere in the world. But laws are changing constantly, especially with all the gun chaos in the US.

Wrong. Oh so very wrong.

The laws vary from State to State to Territory. Only certain States will require you to have a license to import and own him. Others (e.g. Queensland) don't require anything.

They just replied (so fast)!

"This happened when megatron was first released already. In order to apply the plug, it is necessary to transform it into a gun, then back to the robot to fit inside the box. Of course you will receive the product opened. It is ultimately each customer decision to apply it or not (at their very own risk) , we are offering this service for free."

that doesnt make any sense.
do they want to play with it for some reason.
you literally just have to put it on the back of the barrel in robot mode and your done. maybe the silencer.
They be over there shooting at each other with the stock silencer on like James Bond. Yuki be over there like, "I can't deal with that right now." 8-)

he needs more red on him

It's probably to isolate and identify the actual part that becomes the barrel, as some figures in the past have cheated with faux-parts, with the real thing tucked away. We've yet see the transformation, and from the looks of it, it's a doozy.

They also say that they are very careful and guarantee no breakage when transforming him. They are also considering using "easily removable" tape, though this does not comply with the "permanent" application of the orange plug per the law. I could forgo this process, but as mentioned earlier, it's a risk. Don't care about MISB as I plan on enjoying every transforming and posing second with this guy. So excited! Wife gave me the green light to order it earlier today. She is awesome!

just tell them to use the tape. they arent gonna inspect it too much. they are too busy searching for bombs and illegal drugs.

I emailed a bunch of the Japanese retailers about the plug, and only HLJ said they'd look into it. I don't have the email anymore, but thought a-e said they could not do anything but mail it out as is.

So do you have to tell them now or before they ship it that you want the plug? I might end up going with them as well. I also don't want to take the risk of having it seized. I'm the guy where if Customs seizes 1 out of 100, I'm the 1.
