We have known for a long time now that there would be a new Shockwave and Sideswipe coming to the Cyber Battalion line, a value oriented subline of the Generations line. However, we had never seen an image of them. Until now.

The Snakas Blog has posted images coming from Taiwan of these two brand new toys found in stores. While these are made for brand recognition/growth in BRICS countries, some toys have made it to the US as well, like last year's Prowl and Jetfire which were found at Wallgreens. It is unsure if these two will as well. Speaking of Prowl, it seems Windcharger Sideswipe shares the same engineering. Shockwave however is completely new and turns into a cybertronian spaceship very similar to RID's Cyclonus.

Previous toys in the subline have also been found at Universal Studios but at "exclusive-style" prices, so these might as well. For those unaware, these are voyager sized toys which sell at the deluxe class price point when found at retail. For a review on the previous Prowl release in this line, you can click here.

That Sideswipe would make for a half decent Overdrive.

I was actually thinking "why did they give Sideswipe, Windcharger's altmode?" But Now that you mention Overdrive, it does strike that chord rather well.

Shockwave looks better than he has any right to. Sideswipe has a nice car mode but that's about it.

Hi there Sixshot, trying on a Shockwave disguise?

Pretty surprised Shockwave is all new (and that he needs a "Decepticon" prefix), Sideswipe looks ok. Shares some parts with Prowl, but the toes, lower arms, hood and top, and the head are new. I can't really determine the make of the front, could be totally made up.

Sideswipe's alt mode kind of looks a mash-up of his RiD 2015 and classic self car wise.

Oh please, PLEASE tell me that Shockwave's knees rotate on a ball joint and not just a hinge, he looks so good that it'd be a shame if he lacked knee articulation

The instructions show the back including the inside of the knees, and from the looks of it, it's a mushroom peg type swivel.

How can Cyber Series Shockwave look miles better than the Cyberverse Shockwave, be a lot bigger, and cost only a little more, and yet be near impossible for any of us to buy? And what's going on with his head? In bot mode his head has ears, but not in alt mode. Does he have two heads just for the sake of an exposed head? (Looking closer all of the head details are different so he does have two heads, it's hard to tell what's happening in the instructions.) And will he have clear parts? His hand/gun, wing tips, and some other parts are slightly different shades of purple from the rest of him, but the CGI models don't look clear. Probably paint, but that's a lot of paint. Guess we'll know soon enough.

Maybe Walgreens will get them (wont hold my breath).

I want that Shockwave! He's simple, clean and effective and Shockwave is one character I'm all on board for him being a simple and effective figure. Not to mention I don't have a Shockwave in my collection and his Voyager size would make him roughly in scale with my Megatron and Starscream.

WOW! That is a damn fine lookin' Shockwave! This may be the first "Cyber Series" toy I bother to pick up. It looks like a nearly perfect fit for my Classics shelf. I can finally replace the rather undersized FoC Deluxe Shockwave filling that slot currently.

When I first heard there would be a cyber battalion shockwave, I was excited as hell. And hot damn, I love that thing. The spaceship is ok I guess, but that robot mode is absolutely perfect. And the ship is 3 times better than that spider tank thing the cyberverse figure has. A buy for sure if I can find him

Shockwave and Sideswipe look GOOD! Sure, they may be brackish like the previous ones, but they are leagues better than the... shudder... "Authentic" line.

Liking both designs! I just hope that shockwave has a knee bend, considering cyber battalion tends to skip on that, unless it is needed for the transformation. And looking at the steps, it is not needed.

10 times better than Cyberverse.

I really like that Shockwave. The Sideswipe figure has the same alt mode as Generations Bumblebee right down to the raised edge of the Front Fenders.

Flashwave wrote:10 times better than Cyberverse.

While I dont think the Cyberverse is great, I dont think this is so much of an improvement. Both seem to lack in articulation, and this one more so. Probably no knees, no thigh swivel, and no universal joints, and hollow to the extreme (which has to be since they are stretching out the material to make a bigger toy). Are all you guys ok with this? I find it hard to believe when I keep seeing the same "happy meal toy" comment similarly simplistic toys are revealed.

Also, I think the alt mode looks terrible. I hate seeing those arms there hanging in the back and I have no clue why they would go out of their way to have a fake robot mode head visible in alt mode. That was dumb with the FOC toy but at least you could ignore it there. Here its harder to ignore.

I dont think either this nor the cyberverse is going to satisfy our Shockwave itch, but if I were to pick one, I might go for Cyberverse simply because the alt mode and articulation looks slightly better.

Oh, I know, that's why I'm practically begging, there's no reason for it to be just a mushroom peg, the balljoint would acomplish the exact same function AND provide a bending knee WITHOUT INCREASING PARTS COUNT.

So...i just realized that Cyber Battalion Shockwave's package art is the same as Combiner Wars Shockwave's!? Could this mean that Sideswipe's package art is unreleased Combiner Wars Sideswipe's package art? Or could it even be Power of the Primes Sideswipe's? I'm still holding out hope for CW/PotP Sideswipe ;)^

Hate to break it but unless it appears down the line as a may mayhem, I don't think you're getting a sideswipe. We know all the deluxes that we're getting in potp. Now if they retool his alt mode a tad to make it more cybertonain then you may get him in the next trilogy of toylines. If he does then you can point out that they reused this sideswipes artwork

Notrab on Weibo has posted an image of the robot mode for the new Shockwave toy we only saw yesterday for the first time. This is part of the Cyber Battalion line which is made up of bigger, simpler, and less expensve Transformer toys of recognizable characters. As you can see from the photo comparing it to the Masterpiece toy, this Shockwave is the same height as a Voyager. The image shows us that Hasbro chose a darker grape purple color. We also have a better sense of the articulation. Like with most other figures in this line aimed at young children, there is a lack of knees and bicep swivel. Is this a dealbreaker for any fan out there? For those hoping to pick him up, so far he has been found in Taiwan and previous toys in this line were found at Universal Studios and Walgreens in the US. If any fan finds more images of this toy on the internet, in either mode, please let us know.

Is it possible for some shapeways guy to make some knees that peg in where the mushroom peg does? Even if it adds half an inch to his height...that would work if it doesnt effect the transformation.

There's something deeply unsettling yet amusing that one of the best looking CHUG scale Shockwaves in recent years is also a cheaply made brick intended for small children. Like, that sculpt is superb- it's almost wasted on that line. That said I would have adored him as a kid so mission accomplished I guess. The lack of knees is weird though, a balljoint would have made sense for that.

I am sure it is possible but then that raises one's full cost of the figure. You still lack the bicep swivel and it is still a relatively simple and hollow toy. So is it really worth putting extra money into it on our end? He looks good on a shelf wihout adding any work or money.

They could always retool him slightly, upping the parts count and release him for wfc. Of course he'll be retailed for full voyager cost

He is the exact same size as the jetfire in the image below so that should give you an idea:

And he would scale with TR Megatron similarly to how Starscream scales with him below:

He's not justifying it, it's literally why hasbro made this line, the target audience is children, I imagine it would be a lead in from rescue bots toys, then going into either movie toys or other generations figures. It's not targeting collectors like us...not that it will stop the few of us who just want it for display purposes so find a knee joint not needed.

Sadly they do this because they know that people will still buy it due to waiting for a quality Voyager class Generations Shockwave for years now.

But since there isn't one, Hasbro know's that they can continue milking this character. Here it is we've had a CW Legends class, a Cyberverse Shockwave pending and now this.....

And next I'm betting will be a Generations Leader class instead of a decent Voyager class Shockwave with legs that actually bend.

It's becoming the biggest downside to collecting.

We're not talking adding spoiler or new rims to a car here.

If you'd like to pay almost $30 for a cheap placeholder which will likely get a real Voyager or Leader class Shockwave soon after then so be it.

But for me.... Take Grimlock for example. When FOC Grimlock released, I bought it. Then the TRU gold version released with that Movie OP came out so I bought that to. Then that Iron factory upgrade release and I grab that and added to the TRU exclusive FOC Grimlock and it's been my Stand in Grimlock ever since. Meanwhile that POTP Grimlock is a stubby mess that I have no interest in combining. So I skipped it an only want the 4 deluxe Dinobots (well only Sludge and Snarl now) to go with Slash.

Point being is that I'm no longer buy just anything that Hasbro makes anymore. My Sig is proof of how happy I use to be with random Shockwave's in the past but for now on I'm no longer settling.

Sure, but that still becomes an upscaled legends toy for 27$. Well look to each's own, I just dont feel adding knees (for 10$ no less) will make this figure that much better than before.

Though I do agree that elbows did make all the difference with Combiner Wars scrapper. I am glad to know you will be enjoying this toy to its fullest :)

I don't care about the lack of knees, I've got plenty of figures that have knees that are useless. In the end, it's a $17 figure that fills a much needed spot in my collection and doesn't look awful. I've got plenty of more expensive figures that I don't want to transform like alpha trion, broadside, T30 doubledealer, classics Ironhide,
