The first images of Suzuki Swift Alternity Bumblebee have surfaced. So far the figure is to have two colors, Champion Yellow (Bumblebee), and Pearl Red (Cliffjumper). Bumblebee is the 3rd installment of the Alternity toyline from Takara. The previous two were Nissan GT-R Convoy and Nissan Fairlady Megatron.

Is it just me or does the bot mode look very disproportionate. The head sculpt looks good though.

What a piece of shit. This is an embarrassment to the other Alternities.

Seems a little lazy in comparison to Megatron...

Has a Classics Sunstreaker vibe to me.

hmmm...looks okay i guess. he's a bit too short and fat even for a bumblebee...
bot mode reminds me of sunstreaker, while alt mode reminds me of ironhide.
guess it's better to wait for pics of the colored version.

very disappointing. crappy alt mode. cool head though. but the rest of him needs to be chunkier, especially the legs.... wouldve been better as a vw beetle

It's almost insulting that Takara and the vendors plan to charge 50 bucks for this turd. Definitely not for me.

The conceptual art for him was an instant buy, this prototype is an easy pass.

That item is hardly worth the effort. It sort of shocks me that it has such care in its head, arms and legs only to be complete fail in the torso department. I'm hoping there's some for of mechanism in play that allows the chest to slide in a bit, or something similar. If not, then the bulging chest that sticks out rediculously far was very played down in the concept image.

It's simply stopped stroking me.

I like the alt mode since it evokes a Bumblebee flavour. VW Beetle, minis, hatchbacks, superminis, etc. all look "right" as BB alt modes to me. Compact cars are the way to go for BB in my opinion.

The robot mode, hmm, very chunky torso while the limbs are relatively scrawny. That's my main issue. It's unbalanced in robot mode. I like the design of the limbs, though, so if I were in charge of designing it, I'd say find a way to alter the torso rather than the limbs.

I like the head sculpt. It's an update to the traditional G1 hornhead design, which I like.

Admittedly, the concept art does show a rotund figure but these photos show a chunkier body. Wow, if only it wasn't so big in the torso, I'd buy this. I like but am in no way a big fan of the other Alternity figures and BB was the first one I was considering buying since his alt mode reminds me of a more traditional alt mode for the character.

Has to be mis-transformed. Can't see TT putting out something that looks nothing more than a re-shelling of a BT.

I think it is miss transformed. look at the chest, it looks like the roof is supposed to flip over

if not then, either way its a pass

Could it be that they have his head, arms and legs facing his back, so we don't see the actual front, jus the back with the limbs backward? If not, that is epic, epic fail.

I'm hopeful some color or some fiddling with the transformation improves the look of this thing greatly...as of now, I think I'm with the "yikes!" crowd.

When it even draws your ire, there's something wrong.

Yeah, so far it doesn't look good, but I'll wait to see some color pics before making my final judgement.

Even if the lower torso extends more so you can see his hip armor under it would be a major improvement. He's just too short and fat.

Everything is fine, but his body.
I can understand having their chest as the face of the car, but not half the frikin' car being their body.

but that bot mode, it can't be right.

No change of grabbing this one unless there is a mistransformation here.

Maybe Alternity BB is getting ready to go undercover as a Sharkticon! He's got the proportions, he just needs a few mods, some sharp teeth, and a paint job.

Crikey, that's ugly! He's got half a car on his chest and silly feet; unless this turns out to be mistransformed it's one to avoid for me.

Alternity BB is wondering the exact same thing! He's also wondering where his feet went as they are out of sight as far as he's concerned. Poor BB...

I do want this figure. It's actually the only Alternity figure I wanted for sure. Heck, even if the fellah's chunky in the final product I may get him anyways. The sharkticon-esque silhouette gives him character! I do like his alt mode, though, since I'm not a big fan of the live action BB's sporty design. Compact style vehicle BB all the way!

Unless his paunch transforms into extra material to supplement his legs and cover up his retarded looking shoulders, I think this figure is hopeless.

Strange, but he keeps reminding me of one of those 1920's silent comedies, where some naked guy runs around holding a barrel to cover up his body.

Having said that, I do like his overall G1-ish look, but his paunchy torso makes him a definite pass for me.

If the prototype Alternity Convoy pics in the past are anything to go by, the designers won't be changing Bumblebee to any measurable degree where his beer-belly is rectified. He'll likely stay pretty much the same as we see him in the prototype stage.

Thinking about it ... i'm not sure WHY we're getting upset over the "podgy belly".

I mean look at his G1 mini-bot and pretender toy, they were reasonably podgy.

I just think the last few years where we've seen a more "slim and sexy" Bumblebee people have become accustomed to "health and fitness" Bumblebee instead of the "classic" podgy Bumblebee.

When you look at it that way it's actually just a modern update of the G1 version.

*cue the "But they didn't do that with Classics!" responses*

well they didn't, and they should have, because now the toys aren't accurate to each other, and, well now i am just making up BS as i go along, like everyone else who will post a comment like this :P

but seriously, If they fix the feet, or at least make his crotch look like he has one, i might pick it up, he is growing on me
Re: First look at Alternity Suzuki Swift Bumblebee (969998)
Posted by Convotron on August 7th, 2009 @ 10:50pm CDT
Well I for one do not like the slim and sexy BB! I say again, compact style vehicle BB is the way to go.

However, I think part of the problem with the Alternity BB is way that the wheel wells at the shoulders increases the already broad body silhouette. Another part is the proportions. With such a large torso, Alternity BB's legs and arms are too short and thus I see an undercover sharkticon.

I'll make a point using the following three images. The first is the Alternity BB.

The second is forum member Wheeljack-S70's great BB kitbash(check out more photos at his thread in the Extensive Mods and Scratchbuilds board).

The third is a photo of Classics BB with some vintage G1 BBs.

Notice how Alternity BB's paunch, while not significantly larger than the other examples, is large enough to obscure the figure's thighs whereas the Wheeljack-S70 BB and Classics/G1 BBs have clearance to allow us to see their upper and lower legs. So the combination of Alternity BB's shoulder wheel wells and thigh obscuring paunch is what makes it appear so much more rotund than previous BBs.

Now I'm not one to point and say "Hah, look at that fat robot mode!". Afterall, I'm a G1 fan, which includes chunky robot designs. Classics Hound is a beautiful robot mode in my eyes, its crate-for-feet and all. I really like the Aveo Swerve because of its relative chunkiness(as well as simply great design mechanics of its transformation). However, Alternity BB isn't too fat...his arms and legs are too short!

Alternity BB has two pistols. It has a G1 flavour to its design. If my pre-orders don't destroy my budget, I'm getting Alternity BB. My first Transformer was a G1 BB so I ain't going to give up on ol' hornhead!

Very simply, Bumble is a bad choice for the line. I hate that they've chosen a character that's popular over a character that fits the line. It's a bad design of an overused character in an overpriced line. Total fail.

Taking bets now on whether the next Alternity will be Soundwave or Starscream...
